Take advantage of the boy?? The boy took advantage of a sane environment. But I think it’s just terrible to cheer the family’s misfortune. The family could have erred, and their inactions or refusal to use their influence in the past, may have cost lives, that they should deserve our utter contempt- but we shouldn’t mock them nonetheless.

Of coz, they are likely to understate the consequences when discussing with him, but let us assume they didn’t and instead, they explained to the boy very well, what the long-term effects could be.

Of coz, there shouldn’t have been any monetary incentive, but I think many would be willing to support such a request, with cash or other supporting incentives. (A crime ??)

Let us assume, the family that needs a donor thought so too.
For the donor, could the monetary or other incentive be more propelling or compelling at the onset? Let us assume it was.

His kidney was going to be yanked, he wouldn’t give that without a promise for exchange of another reward. Let us assume the boy was naïve, and he was underpriced.

If he wasn’t underpriced, and the supposed donor wasn’t short on intelligence. Could the donor experience decisional regret? Of coz he could. In fact, recent studies on decisional regret among donors, indicate that younger age and lower education are predictors of regret.
So regret was an item and when it was time for the procedure, it became more stark. So stark, that the ‘affective’ theatrics couldn’t help; of coz, he knew that it was only because of the transplant, that anyone cared. Such reflection on the expectation of care can be sufficient to create an utter dissonance and complete turnabout.

After this, the Ekweremadu’s probably couldn’t keep him any longer, the promises of reward or the reward given were withdrawn; he is to return to wherever or whatever condition he was from, with his kidney. They were probably others as well, putting pressure on him, invested in all of it, with a rebuke for the boy.

So, what could he have done? Now, we know he is not likely returning to that condition he came from and he’s still got his kidney. In a year or two, his family would be with him in the UK.

Was Ekweremadu naïve and exploitative? Perhaps. Was he an organ trafficker? Then, he must be foolish as well to have decided to have the transplant in a standard hospital in the UK, and not in Iran or some shady place, where the donor’s consent is not required.
Errrrmmmm you realize that the location where the kidney was donated is the same location where the transplant will happen. The Ekwerenmadu's would not want an Iranian hack transplanting the kidney to their daughter's lungs so they chose the UK hoping to leverage a Nigerian doctor. I am sorry but Ekwerenmadu's deserve what hit them. The could have gone the official route and spent the actual amount of money required but they decided to cut corners and now they are in the corner that they cut for themselves.

..ok but did ekerewemadu and the doctor in nigeria first of diagonise or examine the boy kidney to know if it matches with his daughter kidney...2).... what did ekerewemadu tell the UK embassy in nigeria what they want to do with the boy in UK...did he tell the UK embassy in nigeria that they are traveling with the boy for a kidney transplant that the boy is the donor... and did the UK embassy in nigeria interview the boy to know why he is traveling to UK with ekerewemadu and he is to donate his kidney before the UK embassy would had approved a UK Visa for the boy to travel to donate his to Sonia for kidney for kidney transplant...so was the UK embassy in nigeria not aware of all of this... and what did ekerewemadu tell the UK embassy in nigeria before the UK embassy approved visa for all of them
1. They won't have taken him to the UK , without knowing if he is a perfect match
2. It is the British doctor that , declared him mismatch. After asking him some questions. That's the normal procedures , before such surgery. And the young man answers was unsatisfiable. That is why he declared him mismatch.
3. I don't think , the young man went to the embassy.
4. Ekweremadu wrote to the embassy that , the young man is Sonia's cousin. Which makes him eligible to donate his kidney . But Ekweremadu lied. Shey, the young man na Sonia's cousin?
5. So Ekweremadu's statements to the embassy were all lies. Making him a trafficker and an organ harvester under UK law....
6. Ekweremadu messed up , big-time.

So giving false information during investigation is not an offence in UK?

Your paragraph 6 and 7 expos it all.

I am sure he was underpriced and surrounded by sharks. The whole thing has been shrouded in so much secrecy. This was simply a pure case of exploitation and it backfired on the Ekweremadu.'s.

I wish the boy could be paid for a tell all by a media company.

You're right. But I think by putting him in the Victim position as a result of the inducement, they overlooked the crime. Moreso, no one pressed charges against him for this. It would have been the responsibly of Ekweremadu's lawyers to bring it to the attention of the court.

Even if the man's daughter has 4 set of kidneys would she donate or sell to the boy at point of need?

dominique:
But the boy was not kidnapped or coerced to donate his kidney, he offered to. He was the one willing to sell his kidney to highest bidder so why make him a victim? Ekweremadu is a corrupt politician that deserves to be flung in jail for stealing but that boy is no victim! He agreed to it, he's not underaged neither is he mentally unfit to decide on his own. I hope the UK authorities deports his snaky ass.

On the contrary, the UK authorities are protecting him in the UK…
Because they realize he could be harmed if he returned to Nigeria (where the lives of regular CITIZENS means nothing)!

In a case involving Nigerian CITIZENS on both sides - one as an alleged perpetrator and the other as alleged victim - the Nigerian government deployed resources and employed the instrumentalities of the state ENTIRELY AND SOLELY ON ONE SIDE ONLY, with the Nigerian courts, the Immigration Service, NIMC, the Attorney General’s Office, the Nigerian High Commission, etc., each of working expeditiously to, among other things, provide consular and legal assistance to Senator Ekweremadu and his family and to place in the public domain, private and biometric information about the alleged victim, capped by a delegation of Nigerian senators reportedly flying over the UK (almost certainly on Nigerian taxpayers’ funds) to provide “comfort” and “assistance” to Senator Ekweremadu.

A CIVILIZED society is characterized by how it treats the weakest among its population.
Conversely, in BACKWARD nations like Nigeria, some citizens are officially deemed more WORTHY than other CITIZENS.[/b]

NO legal offense arises (or attaches) simply for lying to the police….
Unless a person lies under oath (perjury) or is actively OBSTRUCTING justice!

The Ekweremadus’ lawyers raised it, but the judge RIGHTFULLY discounted it…
The allegation against the Ekweremadus was LEGALLY PROVEN by financial records, and not by the dude’s testimony.

The offense of trafficking in human organs is a “strict liability” offense in the UK…
So long as the prosecution can show FINANCIAL INDUCEMENT, all these other side issues are legally irrelevant.

The Ekweremadus’ case is PRECISELY why these laws were enacted - to prevent using the poor as “human spare parts”.
There’s a reason why they picked a poor street trader who’s a stranger, rather than a family member (extended or immediate).

PS: Btw, do people actually realize that many donors need lifetime healthcare?!

it is your right to have an opinion
The fact is that the court formed the exact opposite opinion to you. The court listened to testimony and saw documents and pleadings from lawyers. His lawyers had all the opportunity to convince the court.
Your comments here show you have not read even a quarter of the evidence that is in public.
You say he offered to donate his kidney

Who Did he have that conversation with?
In exchange for what? Exactly? 270000 naira?

Let us assume without conceding that he consented ,that does not mean he is not a victim.
Exploitation of vulnerable people does not mean they are not victims.
You did not read the court documents.
Agreement in UK.law starts with an interview with doctors. He failed that interview.. It is clear you did not grasp that.
To agree you need to convince the doctor He did.not.

At that point there was no problem.

It is important to understand what happened and At what stage or what time.
You obviously don't

Nope, Ekweremadu “only crime” was NOT that he wanted to save the life of his ailing daughter (I think most people can EMPATHIZE with that), but rather that he tried effectively to BUY “human spare parts” and put the life of someone else’s son in mortal danger.

Ike, we are even praying you die in that Prison because you are entirely useless to the Igbo nation and humanity.

Go and check comments of Internet miscreants like seunmsg, ihordsppy, helinues and Iyabe ... and see how they support this animal. Same group of never do wells are also supporting another mentally deficient Tinubu who will destroy Nigeria kpata kpata.

I don't even want to talk about the Charlatans and nematodes like Reno Omockery.. The most iddiot God sent to earth from hell that should be jailed for life.

This should go a long way show you that we Ndigbo are people of good heart who hate corruption and corrupt animals like Ike Ekweremadu.

The Igbo nation is the first Nation in Nigeria to beat a sitting Sinator in Nigeria! A useless man who left Nigeria they basttardised to go and eat Yam in Germany. Ji gbuo gi dia... Useless man.

Who else noticed that whoever the Igbo nation spites and curses never makes it in life? After the Igbo nation beat up this morron of Ekweremadu... His problems started.

An Iddiot who was in the Federal Law Chambers for over 20 Solid Years... But couldn't build one standard hospital in Enugu or his village. Useless animal. Am not God

ButbI stamp my feet gidigba on ground and pray that YOUR DAUGHTER SONIA DIES. Let her die in Jesus name.. Amen. I say it with full chest.

Upgrade UNTH! For where? Develop Esut hospital to world class... If I hear! This iddiot man will rather loot the money to buy up estates in Abuja.

Ike, I pray to God today that heart attack should kill you in that prison. On the extreme, I pray today that your daughter dies eventually... So you can feel the pain of downtrodden Nigerians you people stole their destinies away and fed on for long.

But on the flip side... Watch how cursed and accursed Nigerians whose destinies have been stolen will come after me. Even some of them are willing to donate their kidneys abi liver to that baboon daughter of that gorilla looking sinator.

Same useless Nigerians their money was stolen to feed the useless girl fat and damage her kidneys. Now same plebiscites are willing to donate their kidneys to the destiny thief daughter so she can get well and continue eating from where they stopped. Nne... Gbasapu obi nwuo osiso... Common die dia osiso!

So that the shock of your death will give your father heart attack in prison and he follows you to hell straight...

However, the RELEVANT legal issue in the case was NOT consent, but whether there was FINANCIAL INDUCEMENT for the organ.

There is a huge gap between the public commentary and what the court heard by way of evidence and testimony
It is is very important to pay attention to the fact that the doctor got the highest sentence.
Ekweremadu contracted him to procure a "donor" and took cynical steps to ensure plausible deniability.
He secured a visa for the young man falsely claiming he was a relative.
He procured an interpreter for The purpose of his meeting/interview with doctors and The boy underwent coaching in advance

The issue of regret or dissonance does not arise
The reality is that he failed the interview because the interview is robust enough to do What it is supposed to do
simple questions like
Why are you donating your kidney and what is your relationship with the recipient are difficult to. fake. There is no information that the boy sabotaged this. He simply was unconvincing
Finally be did not have the means to provide for himself the lifelong aftercare that donors require .He obviously was not coached on that. Why would he when they had no intention to provide it? When that came up in the interview it was a game over.
In the UK the NHS would bear that cost for donors.
Not for him a non resident
So what was the deal for him?
He was given 270000 ,donate kidney and then return to Nigeria with no health plan?
The UK doctors were never going to sign off on that.

Ekweremadu should know better that the routes he was taken is wrong, the victim didn't. He took advantage of the guy

Whether the boy knows of the transaction or not, it is illegal to buy a kidney in the UK. That's what they're being sentenced for.

I don't know you, but I certainly know from your comment that you are single and haven't given birth nor taken care of a younger one before. How can you blame a boy whose life would have been better if these politicians had done the right thing for us all. Your comment shows you are a wicked being.

Let me tell you a story. When I was schooling in Ebonyi state back in the early 2000, the road we plyed was one of the worst I had seen. We prayed the Government would do it but to no avail. It didn't take long, Senator Anyim Pius mother died , and he immediately built the road because he knew his political friends would come to his village for the burial.

Our politicians give us what we have been praying for when they experience bad or evil situations.
