Hi guys. I really need some advice on this please.

We are a family of 6 and I want to relocate my family from Onitsha to Abuja in order to hopefully have a better life and expose to kids to more.

But I am bothered by the uncertainty of this move.

Is this this good idea?

If you live or have lived in Abuja can you please advice me on where we can live and afford an average life in Abuja in terms of accommodation, feeding and transport.

Also what kind of business can one start up in Abuja as a newcomer with about 10m to survive.

Buy a 6 tyre truck (15-20 tons capacity).

Insure it and let it be put to work. It will fetch 800k - 1m monthly.

You can use the balance to migrate on your own in the interim and pick up from there.

We manage trucks, to serve FMCGs. Let me know if you wish to partner.

Guy i commend your decision to move. If e no di move for one side u can always move! Abuja is a nice place to move as its not as congested as Lagos.

However be very careful as you organize your relocation. You go 1st by urself and enquire greatly on the opportunities available. Dont start by uprooting ur family to the unknown.
What business are you into now? Check it now and see if it's a viable option for you if not look for something else. You can be there by yourself testing the water(your spouse/family can pay you visit from time to time though).

Nota bene: be vigilant of yahoo boys or wayo peoples in this forum

Prayerfully decide if you would want to come to Abuja or relocate outside the country.

Great advices have been given as regards places with decency and low cost life. You could consider Kubwa, Dutse, Gwarinpa/Dawaki, Lugbe if your focus is living in a place not far from the City Center.

Orozo (Navy Estate) is a nice option to consider as suggested.

With time, getting a land at Bwari is also in place. Land in Chukuku (Gwagwalada - Kuje Rd) is not also on a very high side, there is good electricity there as well.

For a start, after deciding, you could travel down to Abuja for a survey as advice and study the terrain. Don't be in a hurry to invest. Study, get confirmation and then invest according to your strength and what you are passionate about.

If you have someone you can temporarily put up with and connect with the nairalander that promised you a free ride, you can consider it as well.

For further information or assistance regards a temporary base, on permission, you can privately reach out to someone or two whom your spirit pushes you towards.

With God, Abuja is a nice place. Even in the furnace, the three men in the Holy Bible survived.

As an igbo man that want to start business in abuja, you don't need moving your family nor renting an accommodation first.
Go and learn the trade of choice first. You can share a place with somebody. Whatever happens there will lead you to your next move.
I'm not sure you are business inclined when you don't know this abc of business and relocation.

If care is not taken, you will look for that money in 2 yrs and will not see it.

I hope he doesn't create a thread saying his relocating back to Onitsha. Onitsha is a trading zone, even a grandma is doing business, I know of ibos running from Lagos relocating to Onitsha and they are doing fine

With 10m as an Igbo guy, first of all align with your people here, get a house in nyanya axis, Karo, àpò or kubwa for 2years, you can get a decent 2bed for 2m,buy a car if you don't have one already, rent a shop.. Go into electronics esp phone laptop or building materials business.. After 3 years you will fone and thank me, plus make sure u av a decent school for ur kids.. Not too expensive tho.. Plus is ur wife working or going to work?
If you coming to Abuja cos of economic situation I will rather advise you to consider Lagos.. You will double your 10m under 3 years in lag.. With discipline and dedication.

I live in Abuja. It's ok here, you may struggle at first just like many of us did, but when the land opens up you will enjoy it. The indigenes are very hospitable. And business here is ok too. You will do well to locate a place where there is constant power supply like apo, some parts of Mpape, arab road in kubwa, and other areas. The best advice I can give you however is...I like your brother,if not for him .......

Hold enough money before coming: at least the amount that will see you through till you stabilize. Money is not picked on the streets of ABUJA o.

Here is my ABUJA story in summary. After NYSC my brother kept pressing me to come, I didn't know he was a squarter
With someone till I landed.today am very ok.

Abuja is a place meant for descent people and seriously, agbero can't survive here.

I came to this town in 2007 as an IT student and returned after my NYSC in 2010. Man,this town is fantastic with good road and cheapest food ever. I am a family man of 3chidren.

With that budget,u will need to first of all rent a two bedroom or three depending on ur choice area then find other things u can do to survive.

One thing is very sure here,if u are a hardworking person,in 5years u will see how successful u will be.

U can hit me up in case of any assistance of any sort...if u are igbo, yoruba or hausa or any tribe..I can drive u round for free just to make u feel welcome.

Good luck to u.

I just relocated to Abuja late last year. I'm a sports pundit and wouldn't mind being linked to a media house in need of my services. I've been into television and radio presentation for 8 years. I live in Lugbe. Thanks in advance to all my prospective Godsent.👍

Abuja will fully and happily welcome you. You can stay in any if these areas: Orozo, jukwoyi, Karu. They are safe, with something close to stable electricity. Among these places, there are estates too, much more safer. You will be alright.

But traffic jam is an issue here during peak hours of week days. Preference should be for places like Kubwa, Dutse, Sabon Lugbe, Lugbe. There’s been some security issues around Kuje so I won’t advise in favour of that area.

Hmm real estate in abuja?
Landed properties are now ridiculously expensive in outskirts, not even close to town.

The world is now a global village, so long the kids have access to internet, I don't see anything they will learn here that they can't learn in other states, except for those far northern states, because of their religion.

I won't advice anyone moving from one state to another, it is same thing every where. Investing your money in your current location will pay u more than coming to abuja & starting all over again trying to familiarize with the environment. Unless u have a personal reason for wanting to leave your current location.

You sure have a point but then, the question to ask is: Is the economy of that state public or private sector driven? Do you know why Lagos is thriving? The private sector drives the economy. In many states, the people depend on salaries that’s even so meagre. You can count big companies with your fingers. In the case of Abuja, there’s an appreciable presence of the private sector, but the economy is still mostly driven by people’s dependency on government affiliation through contracts and employment.

@OP

Consider food business, you’ll hardly ever go wrong with it.
Bolt/Uber too, but be wary of where you taxi people at night. It can be pretty dangerous in isolated places.
If you’re good at networking, try penetrate government circles, over time you’ll start getting contracts.

Overall, depend on God for direction.
