I don't understand why people are so pain about the outcome, as Nigerian we are all disappointed, but the team is not bad as most people portrayed them to be. Under 17 competition is for talent discovery, not necessarily win. Now, we have discovered some raw amazing players in this tournament. Next step is to move the talents here to under 20, and probably Ogor,Mbata, Ozor and Okeke(the guys dropped because of MRI) will be added to the squad. Our under 20 might be lovely to watch if these talented squad are properly managed.
I'm not overly disappointed because I saw raw talents that when polish will definitely flourish. Gone are those days that we paraded grandpa's as under 17 and few years later after winning the under 17 world cup, they are no where to be found. None of the players from little messi set, Stanley Okoro made it to the lime light. So, we should take this under 17 as it should be, developmental and talents discovery program.

Ugbade should not be totally discarded, he is good for talent hunting, he can still help at this level.

wdym first time. This set is not the first to use MRI nah. Are you suggesting that the former batches faked their results??

I'm not suggesting. I'm simply stating the obvious that's hard for a lot of people to accept but deep down we all know the truth. cheesy

The good thing is that there was massive improvement this year. Long may it continue.

We have to hold on to the Osimhen generation and hope some of the British-Nigerian kids like Eze, Oliseh etc decide to play for Nigeria.. cause as it stands now I see a generational talent drought in Nigerian football that might take years to fix, we just can't produce talented players anymore from our youth systems. Senegal will dominate African football for a very very very long time.

Mtcheewww... You don't know how to properly profile a midfield player. It is obvious.

You only see the shots but you play blind to his intelligent passing and recovery plays.

Abeg shift.

TheSuperNerd:

As for your ignorant line here, the emboldened above addresses it keenly. Some of you will just pick up your phones and make off-tangent and absolutely irrelevant comments.

You're the ignorant one..

How many goals did Mikel score in his club career

Mikel never ever blasts the ball or take long range shots from midfield or even from the front of the box where the semi-circle is even with fans screaming SHOOT he will never shoot..

Mikel is the most successful midfielder Nigeria has produced in terms of European trophies.

If Linus was playing intelligent passing he would have instructed his teammates to use the wings by always passing it to the wings.

Someone has kindly helped to put you out of your ignorant misery by telling you Linus shot only on the instructions of Ugbade.

I said same thing too after that SA game because Linus didn't shoot in the first two games so the sudden "shoot on sight" was definitely an instruction from the coach.

Obviously you don't pay attention. Keep wallowing in your ignorance. I don't have your time this night.

Ugbade had talented players but he chose to bench them...

If Ugbade or any of the Nigerian coaches had a 16 years old Messi in their team they will bench him and defend it by saying he is too small his time will come, his stature is not good for African football..

Funnily enough, you might be surprised that Ladan Bosso Under 20 team might play better football and go far in the tourney. I'm being hopeful for fully fit Daniel Daga and Eletu to make our midfield tick. Our first match against Domician republic should ease us to the tournament mood, winning them convincingly will serve as morale boosting for us, and get us ready for Italy and Brazil under 20 teams

He is playing football because he intends to play football in Europe and Europe doesn't play midfielders that shoot long shots..

And if the coach ever instructed him to take shots from the middle of the field then he should have told the coach no.. that when his watching UCL and UEL he doesn't see players taking shots from the middle of the field often and those are teams with coaches with a better CV than him because if Ugbade himself watches UCL matches then he will never ever give such instructions unless Ugbade is completely incompetent.

Coping mechanism in what way cheesy? I'm not the one under scrutiny here, now am I ?

The NFF, the coaches and to an extent, the players will always be the ones to be criticized if found wanting in that regard so pardon me if I am at sea by whatever it is you meant by that.

We cannot win anything and yet we should not hold body with U17. U forget say na only this team dey give us better hope. It was the 2013 U17 set that made me started believing in Nigerian football again. Very dominant over their peers. Then the 2015 class. Not as for dorminant but very tactically sound. Put Manu Garba and Amuneke there and oil them well. Don’t change anything. Look at Cisse of Senegal. That country is doing something right.

Who takes Ugbade seriously?,Man talks too much. I lost respect for him when he said some scarring remarks about Iheanacho and co during the U20 World Cup in 2015 when Manu Garba was coach.

He should be axed from the team. With a country of over 200 million people,he cannot get a striker who can put the ball at the back of net.
How old was Amokachi when Westerhof invited him to the S.E?.
There were bribery allegations levelled against him that some members of the team paid around 4-10 million naira.
How old was Pele when he was scoring goals for Santos?,At 16 he made the world cup squad in Sweden 58.

No excuse for this failure, those boys should know what it means to be a sportsman for this great nation in respective of their age.The others who got the world cup are also their mates.

Coach Salisu,Nduka Ugbade should be fired . We condone mediocrity in this country alot.
I expect Ugbade to resign after all his bragging 😩

My brother relax, there is no generational talent gap. Do you know how many players from academies have signed for European teams this year alone? Where did the likes of Gift Orban pop up from? U17 is not a big loss, we don win am how many times? It’s life… win some, lose some… we move.

I put the benchmark as 90%. It's pretty simple. Now, let's assume that it's a group of 23 players. 90% of that will give you an approximate of 21.

Can you boldly say that Nigeria has ever taken up to 21 TRULY U17 players to the AFCON/World Cup prior to this year? I'm sure not even you believes that cheesy.

Why do you think a lot of people have been praising the coaches for this year's selection? It's because they did something different this time around and I applaud that.
