You should help by stating your field as this matters a lot. Health and IT specialist are hardly found complaining of sponsorship scarcity.
heroshark:

I really can't relate to the idea that firms are refusing to sponsor candidates. I came in last year September and by February this year I have received 3 offers from different firms with two offering to sponsor me. I don't know if I am just lucky or that other students/immigrants are failing to due their due diligence and instead chose care jobs as the easy way out.

During my interview, I do try to make it as clear as possible that I'm unable to join them without visa sponsorship.

Loads of things are wrong with the system that me I canā€™t shout about because if naija was ok, I wonā€™t be here in the first place!!

My recent annoyance (ignoring the cost of living) is that it seems PSV is a scam. Most companies arenā€™t a recruiting graduates on PSV simply cos they may need sponsorship eventually.. but how come care homes are giving sponsorship like pure water??

So experienced people that ran from naija due to end SARS/buhari will come here and their only career for the next 5 years will be care? Haba! (PS nothing wrong with working in care but some of us did it as students not a career path. Iā€™m offended they are stealing peoples potential!)

I love you all, but UK problem, ike a gwosiriā€™m -sorry igbo isnā€™t my first language- (it sha means my power have finish).

You make a good point about PSW. That's where Canada beats the UK hands down as relocation choice. The fact that many Professionals have to switch to Care just to be able to remain in the Country. These are people with huge potentials in other fields.

I have a friend who got a fantastic job unwilling to sponsor, he was lucky that his wife was interested in doing a PhD after PSW. If not, if time ran out on him, it would have been Care.

The Global Talent Visa was supposed to curb the challenge but even that is not easy to get at all.

Wish you well in your Canada waka o.

Sweetheart. Nothing annoys me more than someoneā€™s whoā€™s been lucky not understanding others pains OR making it look like others arenā€™t hardworking/lucky enough. Iā€™m one of the most privileged and lucky Nigerians in the Uk, worked just 4 years here and on 140k all before 30 but I never act like others arenā€™t working hard enough or lucky enough or feel their pain. Iā€™m the exception, not the rule.

Because I exist doesnā€™t meant others donā€™t. Because you canā€™t relate doesnā€™t mean you shouldnā€™t be empathetic/sympathetic neither does it allow you to discount the pain is the majority.

And for someone that steadily recruits my profession, 80% of corporate companies donā€™t sponsor due to fear or lack of understanding of the regulations. So unless someone is applying to the big 4 or top IT, NHS or govt.. thereā€™s likely no sponsorship.

Ok.

Congrats on your 3 offers.

Thanks to everyone for the advice and the bashing.

Even If I am able to get the new visa, I still wont start work until I release myself from the contract and serve my notice.

At least I'm happy that everyone here have seen that my employment contract has an exit/release clause, only my employer has refused to see this. Well I believe his lawyer will explain better to him.

My prospective employer is with the NHS and I have had this conditional offer for about 2 months. In between, I have been satisfying all pre employment checks ( verification of identity and documents, Nigerian police check, dbs, occupational health, etc).

HR has confirmed to me that it remains references and then we proceed to CoS which is why I told them to contact my referees.

Having said this, I have read everyone's opinions and views on the matter and I will act accordingly.

Nairaland family always come through. Thanks guys

Please how did you go about the police clearance? I'm trying to get one

Yes Lloyd did back in February but didnā€™t last up to a month before they end it. For Lloyd all you had to do as an existing customer then was upgrade to some specific club Lloyd accounts e.g club Lloyd silver, pay in 1,250 then get your 200Ā£ bonus, but itā€™s over now. Yes it did affect my credit scores lost about 40points altogether but I have almost recovered now

hopefully, paying for my child's application with my card will be possible.. they don't expect a child to have a bank card already

bigtt76:
Log on to the Nigeria immigration website and select UK as your processing country. You will redirected to Innovate1service website where you go ahead to fill out your forms and pay online. Ensure that the name on your debit/credit card matches the name on your passport. The process is straightforward and something you can do yourself.

Hi beautiful people...

Please does one need transit visa if one uses Air Maroc from Lagos to London, UK?

I assume one doesn't if the layover is spent at the airport right?

You do not need a transit visa if you are laying over at casablanca. Transit visa is only required if you will be laying over at any of the EU countries' airport

Hello, Aphrodite007. I am Inspector Colombo, and my preliminary investigations have shown that you never left this thread in the first place, you were simply operating with a different monicker.

You don't need to be ashamed about anything. Afterall, in this country, a person can be a man in the morning, and legally become a woman in the evening. So if the law allows people to change their sex or gender like a costume, wetin kon dey inside ordinary monicker.

If you think my preliminary findings are baseless or without merit, there's no need to sue me to court, we can just settle outside court. Simply name your price and see whether I can afford it.

Now to the more serious stuff, I respectfully disagree with you that the Post-Study Visa (PSV) is a scam. The real "scam" in my opinion is the fact that many Nigerians that I know, choose to spend millions to study irrelevant/useless courses (forgive my harsh description) with very minimal career/job prospects here in the UK. I don't think you are one of them anyway, because you have given many career-enhancing advice here in the past.

I will resist the urge to list some of these 'useless' courses, because it may birth another subjective debate. With some of these courses, even if a graduate is given ILR immediately after graduation, the majority of them will still struggle to nail down a decent job with their certificate alone. Requiring sponsorship from recruiting companies even makes their chances worse.

I understand why many Nigerians may opt to study these so-called useless courses. Just like you wrote, most really want to japa for economic reasons. Where I may criticize some of them though, is that they don't (or maybe can't) make enough efforts to learn new/relevant skills to add value to themselves so as to make themselves more sponsorable/employable/attractive to recruiters/companies in modern-day Britain (abi shey na UK I suppose write).

Now, it will be naive and perhaps foolish of me to completely discountenance your points in its entirety. True, the "sponsorship" element also plays a negative role in discouraging companies to offer certain applicants on PSV a job. But from my personal observation, I don't think the statistical number of people affected by this factor is very significant enough as to make PSV a scam.

Many companies in the UK will go to great lengths to recruit and sponsor people with non-permanent visas, if they believe that they will get value for their money. For example, my brother came into the UK last September on a study Visa, and he has already been snapped up by a company, even when he insisted that he'll only be available to resume with them full-time after his studies.

But again, to be fair to your points, I remember a couple of talented acquaintances/friends of mine who made the same points that you have espoused. One of them moved to America last year and is gainfully employed there, and I heard that another one just got a six-figure job in Germany.

You are also right in the fact that the UK is largely a geographic island, so it is not impossible that opportunities may be somewhat limited in certain areas, even for some talented and qualified non-British persons or temporary immigrants. And some will naturally want to emigrate. This reality still doesn't make the PSV a scam in my view.

Now since you are a goddess, I won't be too shocked to see you leave these shores as well, so as to explore pastures new, because that's what goddesses do.

My advice to graduates who have not gotten their dream jobs is to see the PSV as an opportunity to LEARN, UNLEARN, RELEARN skills that will make companies make the jump to offer them the lucrative sponsored jobs. Taking up a Care Job in the interim is not a bad idea, as long as one keeps both eyes on the GOAL. Good things rarely come easy.

PS: Graduates with the required skills/certifications/qualifications in Tech, Teaching, certain fields in Engineering etc. are almost 100% guaranteed to get good jobs in the UK with or without PSV.

I have a Job offer letter for a Job in the NHS UK but they opted not to offer sponsorship as the annual salary isn't up to the sponsor able threshold.

I have the opportunity to source for my visa so I wanted to be sure what exactly I will need to pull this through. Any travel expert in the house please help.

Which among these cities: Eastbourne, Worthing, Littlehampton, Hampden park, Portsmouth, Southampton and it's environs is abit affordable to live in with cheap accommodation and also have jobs

Eastbourne is your best bet as it's closer to Sussex Uni and Brighton's city center as a whole. You also don't want to be too far away from job locations/opportunities. Brighton offers that in abundance.
