Armaggedon:
The Best capital cities are(in this order)
Owerri
Enugu
Port Harcourt (soots brought it down)
Ikeja
Uyo
Abakaliki (Still underperforming in real estate)
Calabar
Awka
Jos
Asaba
Benin (too many old buildings)
The middle ones are
Makurdi
Umuahia
Akure
Yola
Kaduna
Kano(Sharia brought it down)
Abeokuta
Ilorin

The worst are
Ado ekiti
Ibadan
Lokoja
Gombe
Damaturu
Yenegoa
Osogbo
Sokoto
Dutse
Maiduguri
Gusau
Minna
Lafia

It's easy to tell a drunkard a mile off..

You rate Owerri, Jos and Asaba above Kano and Kaduna?

A state capital is not judged based on the number of beer parlours you find littered around.

Owerri is below Ikeja Portharcourt and few state capitals but from what you wrote im very sure you have not visited owerri before or have anyone to tell you about one of the best ( planned) cities in Nigeria. Owerri has almost all the things you mentioned above and in some cases the best. Try to visit or ask questions.

I have been there several times.

Haa bro 😊😊
Honestly I’m not being biased, right now Ado is no where near Osogbo o.
Depends on where you went to or passed in Osogbo as well.
But in sw,Osogbo is honestly one of the better capital cities.
Let me give you an example, you hardly see an Osogbo indigene going to stay in Ado-ekiti,except,the person is either a farmer or maybe through marriage.
There are countless indigenous Ekiti people in Osogbo, either traders, artisans or even civil servants.
Ado-ekiti has nothing to offer an average Osogbo indigene, who did rather go to Lagos,or at most ogun state.most especially the Ota axis.
Osogbo is not any where the best, but it’s a very decent place.

I am not doubting you, like I said my visit to Both towns was very brief. Osogbo was about 10 yrs ago, Ado was more recent. It wouldn’t surprise me if Osogbo was better as you say, I know CBN, Osogbo steel plant, NMT and there is a significant electricity plant there. To be fair now that I think about it, I remember there was traffic in Osogbo and hardly any in Ado.

Hve you lived in Ikeja before? Are you an indigene? Have you interacted with the indigenes or do you have a property there?

Despite not being part of Ikeja lg, it does negate the fact they are Ikeja.

You and your lots don't really know what development is all about. I'll give you reasons why only owerri and abj should be mentioned slightly above Nigeria level.

1. Being developed doesn't mean static condition; development is a continuum where you seek to improve the city according to the master plan ( owerri still maintains that)
2. Organized street/classy buildings (and not selected areas like GRA) ; you can't compare any city in Nija to owerri in that regard.
3. Organized commercial buildings without ugly fences.
4. Wide roads with so many bypasses ( not overrated flyovers that lead to no where)
5. World class landscaping for both residential and commercial areas.
6. Owerri is largely known for it's entertainment industry with world class hotels/lounge/recreation . Yes! It's a viable industry like some other world class cities abroad
7. Functional traffic lights
8. Solar lights
9. Underground drainage (balloon technology)
10.Tarred roads on major streets of old and new Owerri
11. Functional fire service
12. Public schools with world class learning environment...go now and visit schools like government secondary school, Holy ghost college, owerri girls college etc you will understand
13. Proactive public health
14. Organized transport for both civil servants (government bus) and other motorists (Bus imo)
15. Many shopping malls
16. Sam mbakwe airport ( a local airport that's 4th busiest in Nigeria is not a joke)
17. Home to family of expatriates ( a lot of this so called foreigners working in down south have almost formed a colony in Owerri but I won't give out the location here). They feel secured. Whether you like it or not, owerri is a peaceful capital and will always be.
18. The only state capital/zone in Nigeria where none of it's governors had emerged since 1999, but well built.

(Achike~orlu, Ohakim~ okigwe, Rochas~ orlu, Uzodinma~ orlu)

You’re going in cycles. I have been to Owerri and the only good thing about that place is the hotel’s everywhere!
These are the indices that makes a city developed?
There is no developed city in Nigeria apart from Abuja and some part of Lagos.
Do you have all the basic infrastructure that meets all your need in Owerri?
The only industry in Owerri is hotels. Her hospitals are not the best in eastern Nigeria. Same for the schools in Owerri.
Do they follow town planning laws and build according to the building code?
Don’t argue blindly.

So it's not as big as the whole Lagos again, na whole of Lagos Mainland. My friend, Epe or Ikorodu alone is times 3 of the whole Port Harcourt even if we add Eleme, Obigbo 100km² and 260km² respectively, they not up to Epe or Ikorodu town. Educate yourself.

I have been to Owerri more than 100 times. Infact, I lived in the east for almost a decade.
it's you that needs education because you have never left southwest in your life. You are depending on Google for something someone actually know. Education is in traveling

Enugu is the most developed igbo state capital.
Ikeja, Ibadan and Abeokuta (state capitals of 3 Yoruba states) are more developed than Enugu (the most developed igbo state capital).

Ikorodu LG (in Lagos) is more developed than Ado Ekiti (a Yoruba state capital) and several other igbo state capitals.

Lafia is terrible for a capital city.
Minna is not that good too.
Forget lokoja the aura and atmosphere alone oozes of nonsense.

North west
Gusau the name suggest its gutter.
Sokoto that one is just there.

North East
Except for maiduguri and gombe the rest are rubbish.

South South
Yenagoa is over rated.
Benin too many old buildings.

South East.
Umuahia is rubbish.
Abakaliki is picking up compared to the last time I was there.
Awka could still do better.
Owerri is not that bad.

I have been to all the states in Nigeria so I am talking from experience.

Typical yoruba Muslim man...you ridicule other region and left sw.

You think we don't know how browny Abeokuta looks?? Slummy Ibadan? Abi oshogbo wey get only roads and flyover with zero good housing??

I have been reasoning, having traveled to most state capitals in Nigeria and seening how underdevelop most capital cities are, it is pertinent to state the list of the most underveloped capital cities in Nigeria by geo-political zone:

(1) south east - Umuahia (Abia state).

(2) South south - Yenogoa (Bayelsa state).

(3) South west - Ado ekiti (Ekiti state).

(4) North central - Lokoja (Kogi state).

(5) North east - Damaturu (Yobe state).

(6) North west - Gusau (Zamfara state).

What is your opinion on this rating? Please no insult guys.
Kogi own is for sure!!!! I would have been disappointed if lokoja is not listed.
