How can it be profitable for a nation with minimum wage of N30,000? How can it be profitable for a nation where over 70% live on less than $1 per day.

It is only profitable for government workers, afterall Emir Sanusi said he did not know the price of petrol when he was CBN governor. A he knows is that his car is always fuelled.

Minimum wage can be increased
Infrastructural development

The money can do a lot. Cos even the sis Sist we talking about is a scam. Importers keep inflating what’s not even coming into the country, and the ones that come-in, they still transport to other countries after getting subsidy on it

A lot of scam in that scheme called subsidy. It’s just too expensive.

Please use your Google, its free. USA is the largest producer of crude oil in the world. The only issue is that the crude is for local consumption and reserves, not for export.

Price per liter in Saudi Arabia is $0.62/liter. Are we paying that much in Nigeria? That’s what subsidy has been cushioning.

It’s time we step up!

Yes

Nigeria is paying ₦184 or $0.25/liters for fuel.

The amount that has been siphoned through that program is enormous.

What should be on the table is the how funds will be channeled into programs and infrastructures that will cushion effect.

Nigerians are mostly unpatriotic.

Think of what you can do for your country before what your country can do for you.

Tinubu needs to show strength by seizing the licenses of these depots and filling stations sabotaging the economy. Scapegoat a few, others will align.

Its not even about the corruption that goes on, it’s about the impact on our finances. That the major thing.

Do you have an idea how much we subsidize in monthly basis, you wouldn’t want to know.

Subsidy should be removed and minimum wage should be increased. That will have a direct impact and not just few scamming the whole country.
You said it's not about the corruption that goes on but went ahead to ask if I know how much is being expended monthly on subsidy...

What caused the high amount that is spent monthly on subsidy?

Increase minimum wage and then an increase in fuel price is the solution ??

He should have also announced the removal and the increase in minimum wage same time.

Why the sudden announcement on the day of inauguration without proper consultation or consideration?

You can't just announce a removal of subsidy, with the knowledge of the consequence, without offering a cushioning solution to it.

This is him being insensitive or misguided by the insensitive lot.

. We are our problems in Nigeria. The past administration paid the subsidy to the end of 2023 The present administration would decide whether to continue or not. BAT said he would remove it and that implies as from 2024.
It is disturbing that marketers increased fuel pump price as from yesterday.
This trend must be stopped. We cannot be making life difficult for ourselves .
Enough is enough!
Re: Petrol Price Jumps To ₦‎350/ltr As Queues Return by GoodbutBadguy: 9:53am On May 30, 2023
BAT is the only man with iron balls that has what it takes to grow the economy, he just did what OBJ, GEJ, and PMB are afraid to do. Nigerians hate the truth and taking responsibility. Basic economy: it doesn't make sense to borrow for consumption undecided , for how long shall we as a nation continue to borrow loans to enrich a few at the detriment of fuel subsidy? It is simple if the subsidy is a must then it's high time Nigeria run into full-scale capitalism by privatizing every sector so that the FG will have a few loads and then focus on subsidizing the fuel bcs we can't give what we don't have (the USD).

Why did he not announce minimum wage increase and fuel subsidy removal at the same time? How are people to survive before he decides to increase minimum wage?

If the subsiby is a scam, should not the new government be more interested in catching and prosecuting the scammers? Afterall EFCC and police are pursuing Yahoo boys everyday like Jack Bauer. Are they powerless against subsidy scammers? Why punish the masses instead?

That's what government mouth pieces we have here do not seem to understand. They will not be able to curtail the backlash such an insensitive and hastly action would bring. I am sure they are relying on army to shoot people if the people react. They will be surprised this time around, as the poor masses would have nothing else to lose but their lives. Every successive government since OBJ has tried sudden subsidy removal and had to rescind the decision when the people reacted. Tinubu is just forming voltron feeling he can take on Nigerian since he is nicknamed Jagaban. Let's wait till next week.

Whats best for the country is what benefit the country on the long run, but in these case of Subsidy removal i don't see it benefiting the country both on short and long term due mainly to insincerity in governance and criminality in the oil sector.
A serious govt won't dive into subsidy removal without, cushion policies, alternatives and contingencies plan to arrest effects of "Panic buy"

Remember Diesel & kerosene had alternative despite that none is below #800 per litre today .. now imagine Fuel that has no alternative, infact Nigeria economy runs on fuel, the inflation effect will be unprintable

We all agree that petrol subsidy has to go, but to remove it as his first executive order is very cruel and insensitive. Given that he is struggling with credibility issues, and his government is not popular to begin with. The new government should have waited until Dangote Refinery comes on stream and making sure nepa gives at least 16hrs of power per day before removing subsidy. Now I hear price of petrol has jumped to N700 per litre. How are we to run business at N700 per litre, that means we will use N12,000 to run our generators everyday. By how much can we increase the cost of our goods and services?
In the space of one week, power rates increased by 30% and petrol increased by 500%, while salaries remain the same. How are businesses and citizens going to survive?
which metrics are u using to measure credibility is it obidients cheap noise.. unpopular how someone who got 25 percent in 30 States?? We know how some marketers do things... Even with subsidy wasn't there fuel scarcity before naira saga during buhari tenure... U guys should have open mind tinubu won a fair elections... Subsidy removal without dangote refinery or any national refinery producing is disastrous

Anyway I heard that apc supporters will still be buying at 189. Just come with ur brooms.

Sorry to disappoint you, Dangote refinery will sell at international market price despite sourcing for raw materials here and producing locally. He's going to enjoy his monopoly to the fullest.

And just to add, prepare for MTN kind of monopoly when GSM first came to Nigeria. His business model isn't built on patriotism. Check how much he sells cement and flour locally and compare to how much he sells in other African countries.

The only way subsidy removal wouldn't have affected Nigerians negatively is if the removal was done after all 4 government refineries are working in full capacity alongside the Dangote refinery to drive competition.

Let's see how things pan out sha.

Even if all refinery’s are repaired, fuel will still be selling at close to international market prices. It won’t reduce price to current selling rate.

Subsidy has been doing all that and it’s time to let go.
stop defending nonsense, subsidy has to go everyone knows that Jonathan tried it you guys including tinubu criticized him, but that's not the point, on your first day on the job you haven't settled yet the first thing you do is to inflict more hardship on Nigerians where you haven't fully figured out the situation on ground both politically and economically, 24hrs later the presidency is radio silent, we should be wiser than this.
