Shut up!!! That’s the reality. Subsidy is only feeding economic saboteurs. Refineries will be fixed but that does not bring down the price because the refineries will sell at international rate of crude oil price.

Who are these economic saboteurs

There is no fund, they were borrowing money to pay the subsidy, government is still owing NNPC huge amount for subsidy, it is senseless to be borrowing to pay subsidy that ends up in the hands of smugglers while the rest of us suffer due to indebtedness and scarcity of the fuel, imagine budget for subsidy is higher than budget for education and health, removing it will free the government and masses from the huge payment and we can face something else, government of Tinubu will be challenged to perform because every citizen is expecting the subsidy removal to make a difference.

My sister, forget about politicians. They will borrow money and still loot the borrowed money.
They keep looting our locally generated revenues. There's too much money in this country. We have irresponsible 3 leaders.

You said that Tinubu government will be challenged to perform cos every citizen want them to make improvement with the subsidy money. Do you think that politicians care about your expectations from them?. Especially the crop of politicians we have now.

My brother I just understood this subsidy stuff. It was a big big scam jare

You sef see am. The fuel subsidy for the masses should come from the greedy oil block owners who have no right to our oil blocks in the first place. That's the best way to checkmate everyone. Not the government carrying the whole responsibility while using Nigerian funds to pay subsidy for fuel which mostly get siphoned by the thieving cabals and marketers/smugglers..

Another additional way for the government to checkmate these marketers and smugglers, it's to have nnpc pump stations situated in other African countries where they can regulate the fuel prices in those countries.

Yes, I agree with you on that.
The subsidy was gone already but he needed not mention it in his inaugural address to make it look like it was his decision. He should've waited until well briefed then plan for the Cushing palliatives. It was a goof alright

The same reason why Tinubu and his ilks rejected subsidy removal during Goodluck Jonathan regime to the extent of sponsoring protest all over the country is the same reason Nigerians are rejecting it today

Jonathan made trillions of Naira from oil export then and could have repaired at least two of our oil refineries but he was just busy packing money and worshiping and pacifying the North, by allowing them to pack money too so that he can go for his ‘second term’.

I could remember; our oil was selling above US$100 per barrel then while our budgeted revenue per barrel was pecked at around US$30.

More so, he wasn’t serious or committed to re icing the subsidy. He should have gone ahead, irrespective of what Nigerians would have said then.

So clueless a president. Na accidental president he be.

We are waiting for Niger, Togo, Chad and Cameroon

All to justify this thoughtless decision by Tinubu

Instead of fixing refineries, blocking leakages, having an effective and efficient border patrol to arrest and prosecute these smugglers

Propaganda to the simpletons who are never tired of suffering and enduring. Tales by moonlight.

Did you listen to Shetima talking to governors? This cabal is the most powerful presently in Nigeria today. Jonathan was so much afraid of them. They kidnapped the mother of Ngozi Okonjo Iweala because she also believes in removing subsidy. Shetima stated clearly that they are so powerful. But they must crush them.

No cabal is more powerful than the government

A government or a president that has the political will and that is very decisive can crush these so called cabal within minutes.

The problem here is that our so called elected and appointed leaders are in bed with these oil cabals.

Let me ask you, is it right for the government of the day to suffer the masses because they lack the political will to confront and crush these Oil cabals. The answer is NO

Do you not think that the market would have reacted the same way if any one of the three major candidates who have said they were going to remove fuel subsidy was the one sworn in on May 29th. As in the market already knew what was coming because of the campaign promises of the three candidates who were very emphatic that they would remove fuel subsidy and even PO said ' IMMEDIATELY and not a day longer'

I have heard about this palliatives many times today, how exactly is this supposed to work , what are these so called palliatives, how would they be funded and for how long would they have lasted? Is that not another subsidy in disguise? Digging a hole somewhere to fill another hole.....

Oga, this is not propaganda.

It has been going on for years. That is how we keep losing money

And the same thing happens in Venezuela.....

Look, I know Tinubu and company are not the best we can do for this country...but this part is not propaganda. There are articles and papers and diagrams online that detail the extent of the smuggling problem.

Or have you forgotten the brave Customs officer who exposed what was going on?

Removal of subsidy has ended the cheating that some marketers were doing. Make them work hard for their money.

Uncle ... Why is it so hard to face the real problem which is to face the smuggling problem squarely and prosecute all those custom officials at the border permitting this smuggling to continue unabated?

All that side ( Cameroon, Gabon and Equatorial Guinea)are oil rich( Petroleum) apart from Bakassi oil blocks in Cameroon.

From Cameroon sea, u will see 'sea road' easily leading to these other 2 countries.
Count Cameroon out of it though they have also increased pump price of petrol.

Cotonou to enter their fuel stations, fear go dey catch u whether Dem go attend to you as many people sell fuel in bottles ..... Some of this in Cameroon too, though Cameroon has functional fuel stations.

Honestly, only an ignoramus or a mischief maker would deny this fact Nigerian petroleum products have been finding their way to Benin for decades even when all our refinery were working full blast. My first time in Cotonou in 2004 I think, I saw petrol in all odd shapes of containers being sold openly on the streets and there were filling stations also which were virtually empty. My host informed me that the roadside fuel is from Nigeria it is cheaper and of better quality than the fuel at the filling stations which were mostly imported from Libya.

Yes their is usually complicity with the custom officials to smuggle fuel but you will find out also that a lot of ingenious methods are involved in the smuggling which makes it difficult to stop. Normal vehicles are fitted with extra tank capacities to move between Nigeria and the Benin, it is smuggled disguised as other products like coconut and groundnut oil, and it was widely known that most filling stations along the Idiroko and Seme borders on the Nigerian side hardly sell fuel to motorists at all. Talk less of the porous borders along Saki and further up north,

The best way to discourage the smuggling is to adjust the price accordingly. Do not forget that during Buhari-Idiagbon era there was death sentence penalty for smuggling fuel and yet this did not deter the smugglers

I grew up around the boarder area and I am over 40years of age but I grew up to know about the smuggling along the boarder areas which means people has been smuggling out our subsidized petrol products for over 40years .

There's no way Nigeria can develop with the continuation of the subsidy regime and it must go if we are sincere about wanting the best for this country

There is no propaganda here, the fact remains, whoever is/were sent to disrupt the status quo of illegal exportation will in no time join them be cause of the huge money involved, you have to be there and witness it to know how far, yes govt does not want it but who the govt will send there for strict monitoring also wants to live large and in no time blends in and joins the rest.
