The federal government is currently meeting with representatives of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) at the Presidential Villa, Abuja but the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, is absent.

The meeting, which kicked off at about 5 pm, is said to have been at the instance of the federal government and is expected to be discussing fallouts from the removal of fuel subsidy.

Recall that the Organised Labour, held a meeting with the government last Wednesday, but it ended in a deadlock.

It was reliably gathered that the NLC had insisted that government should revert to the old price of N195 for the Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, otherwise known as petrol before any meaningful negotiation can take place.

The NLC also claimed that there are no concrete measures in place to cushion the effect of the high price of petrol which is having an adverse affect on goods and services.

The federal government’s team is led by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume. Others are the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefie; former Governor of Edo State, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole; and the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mele Kyari.

Also in the meeting are the Executive Secretary of the National Sugar Development Council (NSDC), Zacch Adedeji; Executive Vice President, Downstream, of the NNPCL, Yemi Adetunji; former Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Dele Alake; Hon James Faleke, among others.

On the TUC side are seven members, led by their President, Mr Festus Osifo.

Did the same Ajaero and his NLC not involved themselves in a partisan politics?

are you not in Nigeria? Today I left ajah to Alapere ketu. I spent 5k to and fro. I thought it will be cheaper than driving, I end up spending more. Imagine someone earning 40k a month, how would they survive? Forget the politics and face the reality.

they are working for Nigerians who are being affected by the astronomical increase of fuel price. You cannot increase fuel price without easing the pains that come afterwards. No salary increase, no palliatives, nothing!! If you're not affected by the increase, let those who are affected be fought for by NLC

Stop this. We need to hold our leaders accountable. That's how you build corrupt free nations that work. Even in the US evenbif its over 50 years a crime against the people is committed the leaders or govt is held accountable.

You can't just declare no subsidy with nothing on ground to alleviate the suffering of the people to an extent. The least they could do is import busses to high density areas with subsidised bus fares .

I hope the TUC will be more reasonable than the NLC

Give the Government sometime to put structures on ground and the Govt must carry the TUC along

Then if the Government is not doing her part, then strike should be declared

I do not understand the kind of magic Joe and the NLC want Asiwaju to perform in less than a week

Of what use is subsidy removal when we know that few individuals will still loot the money?

As far as am concerned, subsidy is the only thing the common man is benefiting from the government.

Buhari increased the price of fuel he didn't use the money to do anything instead, he borrowed more money for looting.

Make them leave our subsidy for us!
