I really like your research on lpg it is an eye opener for small medium enterprises that uses fuel heavily,we currently have a 2hp rotary compressor ice block machine that is powered by a 6.5kva 15 hp generator(gx440),the generator gulps from 15-17 ltrs of fuel every 10 hrs for each batch,so my question is if we buy a brand new generator and convert to lpg how much will it be consuming every 10 hrs,the compressor is a 1,957 watts ultra tropical Samsung with extra 100-200 watt fan load,so the 6.5kva generator will be working with 30-40% load after the initial surge start, fuel is roughly costing #8-9k for 10 hrs,any idea how to slash this ugly figure is welcome, bomb blast or not.

In as much as you want to make money, you kindly people know the cons and pros of unsing it.

Petrol would be tagged "safe" where gas is

Gas has always been safer than petrol.

Gas cylinders are placed under naked flames in confined spaces in over 100m homes in Nigeria, generators are not naked flames and are outdoors now tell me which is safer?

For those asking which is safer. Let's rationally analyse this.

A tank full of combustible fuel on top a hot engine .

Or a gas cylinder as many feet away from a running generator .

Also this pic below might be in your house, a naked flame on a gas cylinder wink

Nigerians, please thread with caution. Fire disaster is no one's friend. Take the necessary safety training and don't listen to all these marketers who only want to use the current challenge being faced by Nigerians to trend or blow. If you've ever visited burns department at UCH or LUTH, you'd never near gas or flammable material again. Your gen could leak petrol and you'd still be fine, but any slight leakage from gas connection hose could be catastrophic.

In as much as this is a laudable idea, please be quite knowledgeable about this, for the sake of yourself and lovely family. A lot of Nigerians are careless when dealing with such a highly flammable marerial. Be warned! My 50 cents

Thanks so much for this wonderful write, when I see intelligent people on this forum I simply follow them as it is not common to meet them here. Well done my person.

CNG is compressed at high pressure, true and valid but equipment using CNG don't necessarily need to operate at high pressure hence the use of a pressure regulator at the cylinder.
the equipment using cng must be fitted with a pressure regulator to reduce the sng pressure to a pressure required by the equipment. Most times the regulator needs to have hot water inlet and outlet jacks.

If your answer is no, you have over 100m Nigerians to preach to on safety.

If your answer is yes, kindly explain how a naked flame in a confined space is safer than a hot gen outdoors .

The same you will join this queue in 2 years time when you've noticed that gas didn't explode anyone and you have been losing a lot buying petrol.

Just go to YouTube. It's an old tech. People in the US and India have been using it for over 10yrs now.
It's only coming new to Nigeria coz of petrol price. Even in Nigeria, people have using it for over 7 years underground. The carburator was sold 10k ever since. But since many will want it, these people increased it to 20k to make money.

True, millions of Nigerians cook with gas. When you cook with your gas, the moment you strike the burner, fire comes out and gas begins to release flames that would cook your stuffs. At times, there could be a delay in igniting your gas, during which some qty of gas would have escaped into the air. The moment fire is released, it travels to all the areas where the gas had reached during the delay in striking fire and it consumes all the leaked or escaped gas and everything will be fine. In the case of connecting gas hose to your generator, when there's a leakage, you don't see or notice it on time for 2 reasons:

One, the generator wont be close the way the cooking gas burner is, to you at home. Secondly, there's no immediate release of fire that would consume all the leaked or escaped gas, when turned on. Users of a gas-powered gen wont notice these leakages early enough, until it extends to the neighborhoods. Once there's a release of fire from either the gen via it's exhaust or by someone in the neighborhood, you already know what would happen. I did not condemn the idea but its comes with a high risk. This is why training is necessary

when you keep a cylinder out doors, the vapour is dispersed and cannot collect. It is not even possible for it to ignite unless there is a fire and a large leak at the same time.

Generators are not naked flames, where is the fire coming from ?

You're doing too much shalaye, na teacher you suppose be because of your patience. I think those that need to be afraid of explosion are those using expired cylinders be it for generator or cooking. In all we do, personal safety standard should be employed. Peace.

Do you know what 'Diffusion' means. Go and read that and come back to edit your comment. That's what GAZZUZZ was trying to explain in lay man's language.
Do you know that a small spark from switching on the bulb in your kitchen can ignite the leakage of gas in your kitchen and everywhere and everybody go turn fried. Anytime you discover leakage in you home, the first and only vital thing to do is to ventilate. Now outside where the generator will be used must have enough of free air to dissipate the fumes from the generator as well as if there's a leakage. So using gas in an open atmosphere is the safest practice except there are other unhealthy conditions which you're not telling us.

If we check well, where u reside might not be more than 500m from a gas plant of petrol station. Leave all these long safety talk. My cylinder has been in my kitchen for more than 10yrs without any issue but fear no go let me keep even 10litres of fuel in my house for one day. Gas is far safer than petrol.
