This is not a wise decision to me, if we can answer this question? Will the Fire run on the same PMS we purchase for 500 plus, if yes, then my point. We talk about cost of governance today, and tomorrow we make decision against it. One should consider the amount of fuel that will be expended so long as the President convoy is moving! Just my take.

Is it any wonder that our leaders get to trample on us when citizens, like you, provide an open cheque and license to do anything?

Do you realise that in more mature democracies - yes, wealthier countries - the Head of State relies on emergency vehicles in the communities he visits?
Do you also know that the local police force is usually engaged to provide not only an additional layer of security but also a conduit to hospitals...etc.

I asked earlier on if the expectation is to have that truck flown all over the country because I, a tax payer, reserve the right to ask uncomfortable questions.

Now just so you know, one of the first things Buhari did on assuming office was to cut down on the number of vehicles in the Presidential motorcade. Although that attack on wasteful spending was fleeting at best, it brought an important issue into sharp focus for a time.

Lets stay on message. This thread is about the addition of a fire fighting vehicle to the convoy. Now lets proceed. Unfortunately many Nigerians were brought up during military rule and do not understand the limits of the Presidents power when it comes to protocol. There are max and minimum number of escort cars in the convoy but the complement/function of security vehicles is constant. Let's take them one by one:

1. The bomb jamming vehicle
2. A car containing the President
3. A decoy/back up vehicle
4. A Ambulance/triage/trauma vehicle
5. One left side defensive maneuver vehicle
6. One right side defensive maneuver vehicle ( note some protocols have front and rear defensive shields)
7. One MB bus containing armed security with assault weapons ( if armed security does not use the MB bus it will have 2-3 additional vehicles
* There are many unknown aspects of Presidential security which no one knows about. I do not pretend to be an expert a

Already we are talking about 7-10 vehicles with the assumption that there are no other personages in the convoy with their own security detail. ( president does not share security detail) Anyone talking about less than 7 vehicles is smoking something "good"

The wealthy countries you talk about having smaller convoys have "eyes in the sky" with rapid response contingents on side streets. Nigeria will get there - in fact we are one of the leading countries in Africa with a growing capability for eyes in the sky. Since MMM no President has been lost to an attack. It is instructive that his vehicle had almost non existent security.

So if a fire truck is added to the convoy it will not be because the President has a a mere whim it will be based on an adjustment to the existing protocol.

Do not assume that Nigerian security arms are incompetent or simply wasteful. They know what they are doing and so far so good.

We are quick to make comparison with the Western nations on matters like this, and of course wish it should be domesticated; but same comparisons should not be made and domesticated as regards Human Rights, Rule of law, etc.

You haven't answered my questions.

What is fire fighting truck doing in a convoy?

Are all the people in the convoy going to be inside one vehicle at a time or all the vehicles in the convoy will catch fire all at once?

Were did I mention fire extinguisher?

Even if I did, what is the relationship between fire extinguisher and hatred?
Is there any law against having a fire fighting truck in a presidential convoy? Has any law been broken? Is this going to have any negative impact on the economy? I don't really understand your argument about everyone being in one vehicle or not! What's your point? Is this move a crime? If not, please kindly express what all this fuse is about or why you have your reservation. Please enlighten me.

Does the president not always have the road to himself and well-maintained new cars, so from where is the fire coming?

Soon, he will add bulldozers to his fleet.

What is smart about this, pls share your opinion on why you think this is a smart move? The motorcade of the presidential fleet should have fire extinguishers, atleast one in each of the vehicles.

How does firefighting truck make this a smart move?

I didn't insult you, so pls be civil. I just want to understand your view....

I said you don't want to know why! Not me not wanting to know why! I believe as a good citizen, you should find out why the truck was added as a matter of necessity, not coming here and criticizing the move like anyone om nairaland has the answer you want! Do you actually know how many special vehicles are already on the convoy? If they add this one, I'll rather try to know why than just to outrightly go against it without even knowing the real reason! If you care enough, you'll want to know why than antagonizing the move. Guess what, I am not in the position to tell you. Go make your findings. Secondly, I misquoted you on the fire extinguisher. You were not the one who mentioned it. Can that rest now?

Well, your view is your view... however adding a fire truck to the already existing protocol doesn't make sense but would rather incur more cost cos that's another unnecessary overhead cost of diesel, manpower, repairs and whatever. That truck is better with the others at the fire station.
