Yeah,it doesn't sell as much (in price)as hybrids(Hausa tomatoes) but the it does affect the price of the hybrid tomatoes ...at the market,the market women buying to resell often opt to buy the local oblong tomato cus it's cheaper.when a crate of hybrid is selling for 15k that of the local can sell for as less as 3-5k,most times thier customers don't care.tomato is tomato to them..

Your observation is on point. States like Ogun, Oyo, Osun that are located near the national border have more influx of foreign farmers (from togo, benin rep) and benue farmers who grow those tiny/oblong/watery local varieties.

Pls note, "Hausa tomatoes" are not hybrid, it's the language of southern market women for all big/medium size, firm and robust tomatoes. The fact remains northern farmers don't plant hybrids, they grow cheap opv like uc 82, Rio grande, Roma, etc. There fruits are also big and firm to some extent but they don't do well at the peak of rainfall in the south. When those robust hybrid fruits grown by educated farmers from the south hit market during raining period, those women also call it hausa tomatoes.

Yes you are right..the Yoruba tomato sellers of cus will call the big round tomato Hausa tomatoes ,but the end users often buy what the women are selling ,you will hardly see a person that wants to make stew or soup says that it's hausa tomato (hybrids)I want not Yoruba tomato (oblong).

That's why those market women prefer to buy and sell the oblong tomato when it's available,cus they will sell it the same price regardless.

People in deep west are the one eating tomato money ooo..we that are close to Lagos.. first grade tomato Is between 13-15k..others are between 10-12k

I see work of blight, caterpillar and end rot. Use blue snow measure between 25-20ml, caterpillar force and any cypermethrin 30ml spray it ASAP, and four days again. As for the end rot which as to do with calcium, I think it too late, next time introduce calcium earlier.

This tomatoes has started rotting long before they got ripe you just didn't notice..and they likely got ripe because of the rot too...next time if u can't get calcium nitrate, liquid calcium too works perfectly and it's just 7000 naira

Cos as we humans age, our taste buds wear off and we feel less taste of those foods we craved for while younger... More reason children like Indomie that most adults don't fancy at all.

It has nothing to do with breds of tomatoes grown nowadays.

The weather for this year don show me shege pro max. My pepper is supposed to be fruiting heavily currently but the bad weather has delayed it. I pray for quick recovery so that I can start harvesting pepper when tomato harvest starts.

it nematode and bacteria wilt that is affecting your plant. This the first time you are planting tomato on the land right? Next time use worm force, and plant cultivars that has some resistance to bacteria wilt to some extent.

Yes, this is my first time of planting tomato. I drenched the land with red force before planting. I'll do that when plant for next season. Thanks for response

Please which do you think is more profitable to plant between cucumber and tomato around August according to price trend. Provided the farmer can manage any of the two well.
Taking one plot with good irrigation for example.

Who has experience with harvest firs tomato varieties like PRESIDO,PREMIUM and ROYAL BOLD how was their performance compared to others like platinum and Diva ?
