My advice to you ,,, continue your stance , with time , they will adjust to the reality that you are upright and beware from tempting you .

It's just like the life of a Judge , there are some judges your lawyer can help you meet Nicodemusly and help cook a favourable judgement for you in a case but there are some , even your lawyer will tell you " hmmn , Oga if na that judge , forget am o , he no de collect bribe , we no fit influence am ".

Though it's hard but it's worth it cos a day will come when your kinsman will be used to set you up , once you favour him , the evidence will be used to get you off the office .

In summary , Stand your ground

It is happening to me at the place I work. It's becoming too much because I won't budge. Sometimes I feel like crying. How do I get around this? Why won't people just do things the right way I've never expected anything from anyone because they are from my village or because I know them.

I feel like I won't be able to stand my ground any longer.

Stop behaving as if you fell from heaven . Talk to yourself and help whom you need to help. Stop forming macho or know it all. You may not know if the little you do to pull people up today will help you tomorrow.

If your village people say you should help them, help them na, or don't you know what village people are capable of, is when they start attacking you before you change. Even if they're not qualified for the job, as long as they're from your village, give it to them. It's called wisdom.

This I have seen.
Even if it means breaking the rule?

If you are my village person you should do everything within the law not to put me into trouble

My brother, you can not stop it if u reside in the western part of Nigeria. Nepotism runs in their blood to the point that, they can employ a mediocre into office due to tribal advantage.

Bro, please, it is a general thing in Nigeria. If you have ever worked in the Federal Civil Service, you'd see how the Northerners favour only theirs, same with a company I worked for back in the day: Owned by an Igbo man, 98% of his staff members are from the SE. The organization where I currently work only favour the people from a particular state in the SS.

Truth is, Nigeria is just too diverse to be united. Nepotism and Corruption should have been our motto.

First and foremost to keep on your mind is that you did not leave home for that shii.

When I first joined the school I teach in, there was this Igbo fraternity, I dare call it, where Igbos who felt they were being underserved by the organisation unite to take a stand. Conversations were in the local language in offices and that was where I drew the first line. We must converse in Igbo sparingly whether learners are present or not because it is a school environment.
Secondly, why would you bring your complaints to me consistently and me bring mine to you consistently when there is a more effective channel to go through without making issues everyone's business? So when complaints come in, I politely let them know the more effective channel to use instead of 'wasting words'. Also, I didn't subscribe to that 'Don't allow yourself be used' mantra as a way of reducing your input.
From Day 1, I dug in, seizing every opportunity to hone my skills and learn something new. It was called a lot of things; first oversabi, then eye service, then work with no portfolio. I never countered any of them, but channeled the anger at their back-biting into doing more for my value in the organization.
In front of them, I rose through the ranks quickly to become one of the V.Ps. of the school and presently, the right hand man of the school owner, a Yoruba man, I should add. What used to be perceived that it is only Yoruba Yoruba saw me in the midst of them all and going hard. And so has it been for a while now. Please note that I did not reference nepotism from the Yoruba end of the school because I am not in the habit of blaming others for my personal predicament. Rather, I work hard at it until I surpass the challenge.

I would think my main weapon against the home and away nepotism was minding my f**king business 99% of the time. You must earn what you expect!

My good friend emeka we do hustle together tose days. He introduce me to one factory work years back. I applied, i noticed the man collecting the application form was from my hometown in lagos here. I still gave him money tho to aid quick selection. Behold i was not called. I went back there because my friend told me they employed some new staff. He said i should give the man better money, i went to give what i have still was not called upon.
Naso life be, just imagine the situation we face most times we lagos indigene. Other state chose their citizen first for job but here we were taught to hustle our way without connection then when connection comes it'll be ++ . Sorry for your experience.

Give them something else in place of what they want.

This is what I mean. If they want you to help them ask for a promotion they don't deserve for instance, don't just tell them they don't qualify. Point them to materials they need to level up and tell them you owe them a solid recommendation if they see it through.

But if you try to use the brute force approach, they will come for your ass. This is what feminism will not teach you. grin

if they are not capable and does not meet the requirement and you sense that can not do it, but just want to be there for the pay, madam learn how to say NO. and use facts to back your statement. think of it in the long run its effect in the company, especially bringing in hands that are not capable just because they are from your village.

There was a guy from the west who worked in a key position in customs. He refused people from his place to serve with him saying they are not qualified. His immediate junior was from the North. When the junior mastered the job, the guy from the west was transferred and the Northern guy surrounded himself with people from the North.
Anyway, what do I know sef.

Do what works for You. Have Yourself at the back of your mind and always think long-term when making Ur decisions. Your job is not to restructure a Company owned by another person, if the owner isn't stopping Nepotism then You shouldn't disturb yourself about it. Everyone sees things from only their perspective so learn to put Ur self in another person's shoes and You will be able to make the best decision regarding Ur own personal survival and growth in the COY
