Here is why.

In England, you pay 3 things on a car mandatorily. These are Road tax. you pay tax to government for using their road. Every car in UK pays this. UK government makes billions of pounds every year from it. We pay insurance and we do MOT every year.

The government needs money to run things. Nigeria is owing almost 50 trillion. That debt needs to be paid.

Here is my concern with this policy

Timing: Nigerian's are suffering already. You removed Subsidy that skyrocketed commodity price and PMS price without anything to cushion the effect on the people.
The price should be reduced to 300 naira which will give government 30 billion each year assuming we have 100 million cars. 30 billion can do a lot on roads in a year.

Whatever takes money out of people's lean pocket should be avoided for now.

Electricity bill is going up in July

We don't have data to track all cars in Nigeria to ensure compliance. Agbero will harass Nigerians unnecessarily. making life hell for motorists.

Ogas at the top will print receipts and take the cash away except where it must be directly paid to the bank and online receipt generated which road safety can verify on the go when they ask a driver.

Tinubu handlers should tell him that those hailing him will soon join those mocking him if the policies do not have human face.

People are already suffering.

Road Tax is necessary but Certificate of ownership is what comes from fees paid on registration of vehicle by owner, and should not be repeated in form of tax on vehicle ownership.

Tax from proof of roadworthiness is necessary.

Tax from Insurance for every vehicle on the road is necessary. Nigerians have road accidents and panic over who is responsible. While Europeans have accident and report to their insurance companies that arrange to ascertain who was at fault and to be compensated.

Certificate of ownership is double taxation because one pays for vehicle registration.

Tinibu is a damned old shylork.

When a person is taking plate number, is proof of ownership exempted from the process or do you take plate number for a vehicle that isn't yours?

It should be established in the CONSTITUTION of Nigeria that the EXECUTIVE BRANCH of Government SHOULD NOT impose new tax or increase the existing tax regime –––not even by one kobo ( either Income tax, VAT, Tariffs, Custom Duty, etc. . .) without a debate in the NATIONAL ASSEMBLY and the approval of two-thirds majority of each respective chamber of the National Assembly.
Taxation on the citizens, no matter how noble the motive is, should not be arbitrary as it is in Nigeria. In Nigeria, you will wake up one morning and hear the custom duty has increased––when? how? why? Worst of all, this decision is made by each agency or parastatal without regard for the overall direction or goal of the administration they serve. It was worse under Buhari, where each Minister ran his or her ministry like a mini-kingdom, detached from the rest of government . The coordination problem was alarming.
We need to move beyond the era of arbitrary taxation on the citizens.
