In England, you pay 3 things on a car mandatorily. These are Road tax. you pay tax to government for using their road. Every car in UK pays this. UK government makes billions of pounds every year from it. We pay insurance and we do MOT every year.

The government needs money to run things. Nigeria is owing almost 50 trillion. That debt needs to be paid.

Here is my concern with this policy

Timing: Nigerian's are suffering already. You removed Subsidy that skyrocketed commodity price and PMS price without anything to cushion the effect on the people.
The price should be reduced to 300 naira which will give government 30 billion each year assuming we have 100 million cars. 30 billion can do a lot on roads in a year.

Whatever takes money out of people's lean pocket should be avoided for now.

Electricity bill is going up in July

We don't have data to track all cars in Nigeria to ensure compliance. Agbero will harass Nigerians unnecessarily. making life hell for motorists.

Ogas at the top will print receipts and take the cash away except where it must be directly paid to the bank and online receipt generated which road safety can verify on the go when they ask a driver.

Tinubu handlers should tell him that those hailing him will soon join those mocking him if the policies do not have human face.

People are already suffering.

We already pay vehicle license which has other embedded cost like radio tax, roadworthiness, tax on every drop of fuel we buy, insurance among others and if they do their jobs properly, those are enough to proof vehicle ownership. This tinubu government seeems to be out to reap nigerians to recover the cost of election, furthermore, It only increase the road harassment we get from these enforcement agencies like police and its unprofessional officers, vio, lastma, frsc and thier ilks...

The best thing for this country is to move out.

On this site once, eons ago, I was once confronted by a Ghanaian after I argued for subsidy removal, who told me I was wrong, and that they were not enjoying their high fuel prices at all.

He also blasted their government.

Ghana's government is very corrupt. (see this link here). As are most African countries, including South Africa, which is having power cuts because of decades of corruption in the power sector, and coal sector. That does not excuse Nigeria's government, and it should not, but it shows the grass is not always greener on the other side.

When did proof of car ownership now become a criteria for collecting loan?

How has the government been issuing plate numbers all this while without proof of ownership?

Why Proof of Ownership on annual basis? If the vehicle is not sold, why should I renew proof of ownership every year for a vehicle that has always mine and is never put for sale.

Your post is faulty but let's address the bolded above.
The FG can't be taxing vehicles to use the road, there are also State and Local Government owned roads. Please stop comparing the UK policy with that of Nigeria, it's irritating.


If the FG wants to pay the loan they borrowed they should find other ways to pay it and not transfer it on the masses. If you take a loan from the bank do you go and meet someone else to pay it !!!!
This administration will be known for all manners of taxation.
