They way people just condemned UK makes me wonder if it’s the same UK that i’m living in they are talking about. Most students from Nigeria come to the UK having paid just a small portion of their tuition fee as deposit hoping to work and paying the balance while studying which is almost impossible. It is normal for people like that to struggle because I don’t know how somebody who’s on a student visa with 20hrs allowed work time wants to make money to pay tuition fee balance of £9000 within 9 months. But if you have paid your full tuition fee or 80%, I don’t see any reason why your life should not be better than it was when you are in Nigeria after graduation.

Let say you are earning £500 weekly after tax, that’s £2000 every 4 weeks. Assuming your bills is as follows:

2 bedroom house rent £550
Energy £150
Council Tax £100
Water £20
Internet £25
Car Finance £200
Car Insurance £100
Fuelling £100
Feeding £250
Other expenses £100

You will still have about £400 as saving every month which in my opinion is better than earning one million naira before tax in Nigeria considering traffic, lack of constant electricity, poor health care, terrrible educational system etc.

it's funny cos you don't realise that you have answered your own question yourself. Who are those who are 'suffering'? Like you rightly said those who really don't have the money, but forced their way in hoping for the best. That is the answer. Simple as ABC. Guess what else is simple.. About a cool 80% of batch 22/23 fall into that category. Know what's even more interesting, their own calculations in reality different from this your own, cos not only are they hustling for school balance, some have loans/debt waiting back home to the tune of tens of millions.

Anyway, just pointing out to you, that you have by yourself answered your own question, almost adequately well.

Note: I don't actually like the choice of word, suffering. The people that made that decision knew and expected at least to a large degree the challenges they would face. So na choice, and so I wont call that suffering. They knew but didn't mind the expected realities and challenges, whereas me ke I mind gan ni. Altho some fit the bill of those who will definitely suffer, like one stupid lady wey carry pikin join body leave husband run on top student visa. I go like see how she go end up. I dey very interested in that her case.

Sometimes, I think being a Nigerian is a big curse. In Nigeria, things are not easy, and when you migrate to overseas, lots of conditions will work against you as a Nigerian. I can't go into details of what these conditions are but having experienced life in Europe as a black guy with a Nigerian passport, I can assure you it's far from rosy. Majority of Nigerians are depressed and lonely. The only people that have it easier are those that have sponsors - family members like brothers or parents that are citizens. So in all, your migratory route to Europe matters very well. No easy way out of suffering, calamity and tribulations for anyone holding Nigerian passport. This breaks my heart

UK Japa is not what most people that have travelled to UK were expecting.

Things are really tough for most Nigerians in UK. Some of them that passed through the student route have to cough out several millions of naira to pay the school fees and will have to work extra hard to achieve this. You see them crying in the night that God please help me through.

Most goods and services have gone up times 5 in UK and with the recent increase in the interest rate over there it seems there won't be a breather yet.

On the flip side most Nigerians that migrated are doing it for their kids future and we hope things get better with time.
you guys really need to shut up.

It is not normally a good idea to try to study abroad if you don't have a sponsor, particularly in the UK and the US.

In the UK, the school and home office won't look kindly on such a person if he/she fails to pay school fees.

Come on, that's why before giving you a student visa, they ask you to show them proof that you have enough money to pay school fees and take care of yourself for the duration of your study, you do that via showing them your PROOF OF FUNDS.

Now, you go and borrow money and show them and you come here and can't pay...they see it as fraud.

The truth is that it's not easy anywhere. I slept for 3hours today, it's 7.13am here and I'm already set to hit the road and reach my workplace before 8.00 am.

This oyibo people no dey hear excuses. So my dear, we're just pushing it.

But if you say you no wan push, NA BILLS GO PUSH THE PERSON LAS LAS!

The only people suffering in the UK are people that decided to sale their property to move to UK and people with no papers aka Japa breed .

If you have the right status the only problem you experience like any other country is inflation period .

There are always two sets of Nigerians in every country abroad .

It depends on what you going for. It would be advisable if you dont have a job in the Medic or Tech industry waiting for you there....japa might not be a good decision especially if you have to sell your assets in Nigeria to raise money for the movement.
One should not just follow the crowd, because everyone is leaving I gats leave too...no. There should be a plan in place first before embarking on such.
Of course you cant compare the quality of life here and over there. The first year is always rough for most immigrants but by the second and following year, you will be good trust me.

But....it is well!

Without living paycheck to paycheck

With 33% unemployment, how many Nigerian graduates even have a paycheck? And as for bills, well methinks the time of CHEAP government subsidized living without bills is slowly coming to an end in Nigeria. Loans for University, electricity tariffs increasing, fuel prices doubled with no rise in salary. And nobody is protesting or rioting, I guess everyone has learned the lessons of Occupy Nigeria in Jan 2012.

But....it is well. It will favor me and my family. grin grin grin

Good Luck to Nigeria!!!

Those of us they left Nigeria in our hands will not abandon Nigeria so they can take their time to stay overseas and come back wherever they want. Wailing is not allowed o.
