Don't mind him.

He is extremely ignorant.

He is so ignorant and poorly educated that he does not know you cannot live in most European countries without speaking their languages. For example, in Amsterdam, all official communications and road signs are in Dutch. Children are taught in Dutch and they will only speak Dutch to you until you tell them that you are not resident.

Then you see some useless and ignorant child come online to say that only 3 languages will exist in a 100 years later. We are really producing poor quality "yoots" in Nigeria like say we dey crase. He would even say he has done "hard analysis" and "reasoned his predictions".

Japanese, Korean, Spanish, Hindi, Turkish will disappear despite them being national languages?
You forgot Arabic too o(northern Nigeria, middle east and Morocco (although they also speak French as second official in Algeria and Morocco))

. Well, you aren't far from the truth..... That has been like a bone in our throats.... the truth is that those of us who were born and bred in Ughelli can't really speak urhobo fluently apart from few families that made it a compulsory thing...... I've alot of friends who can't understand it even tho they are from here too...But that doesn't mean you should write it off so quickly..We have neighboring communities around that constitute ughelli as a town.. Communities such as Afiesere, otovwodo, Ekiugbo and the rest..Those are the communities that speak and understand urhobo well...... Ughelli is just like a town that comprises of different tribes, tho it's an urhobo town...
It's really disappointing tbh but the excuse of having other tribes in a town as the reason for non speaking of tribal languages doesn't hold water. I have stayed in parts of Lagos where Yoruba do not have a majority but still yet I picked up the language against my wish. If you asked me that would have presented urhobo people with an opportunity to spread their culture amongst residents from other tribes as language is the most important aspect of a people and their culture.
I hope there are urgent actions in place to tackle this because at this extent urhobo despite being the largest population in Delta state will be the first language to die out in the state

Absolute shame!

Urhobo is one of the languages that have no excuse for dying out.
It's the attitude of the people who should be speaking it that actually completes the clown show. There's a derogation (I think they don't know it is) term urhobo people in warri who can't speak their language call their hinterland brothers who are able to speak.
Urhobo language would have easily become a lingua franca in much of Delta state by virtue of the number of urban areas it is supposed to be spoken, if only they actually conversed in it.

The point is that there will be multiple languages 500 years from now.

I think Yoruba and Hausa are the safest in Nigeria. Many other Nigerian languages will be safe though.

There is no Nigerian language because Nigeria doesn't identify any ethnicity. However, there are languages of peoples deceitfully put together and forcefully tied together to fulfil the lifestyles and destinies of some people in Europe and America while giving their useful idiots here who their peoples label political leaders false sense of superiority.
That’s fine but it’s nice when people try to unite on common/shared ground rather than letting tribalism get in the way and refusing to admit that there’s beautiful diversity in every corner of the country.

If you can speak broken English you can speak Hausa, for Hausa is a combination of Arabic, Kanuri & other local languages.
It's the most simple language in Nigeria.
Arabic isn’t particularly local to anywhere outside North Africa.

Good enough.

Many useless kids in Nigeria today only speak English.

They think they are funky, despite being raised to be lost second rate human beings.
A lot of British Yorubas (not all or even the fast majority, don’t get me wrong) who grew up in an insular bubble without that exposure to Nigeria for what it is might speak/understand little bits of Yoruba and pidgin but go as far as lumping Igbos and Hausa together, despite the actual fact that Hausas are more similar to Yorubas than Igbos I’d anything. They could not be more different but ignorant people can even confuse them.

One thing I like about Igbo, Yoruba and Hausa is that you hardly see their tribesmen who don't know how to speak it. Even those that weren't brought up in their locality still know how to speak it..
I agree with you about Yoruba and Hausa but Igbo are seriously lacking in that department.

In fact many see it as a badge of honour or a sign of sophistication that their child can’t speak Igbo.

They are happier to see their child speak perfect English than even one sentence of Igbo

At least 24 will be safe.

Many of the other over 200 are at risk.

I can understand Hausa and Nupe to an extent,as I did my Youth Service in Nupeland in Niger state.
But preferably,I understand and read French and Spanish, and focus more on them, because of their great value internationally.
We don't care, the question is how many Nigeria dialect can u speak? ITK.

internationalman:
But it can't be nothing compared to my language.

There's hardly an adult Yoruba or Igbo person that don't know how to speak it. But I I have men and women in their fourties and thirties who can't speak our native tongue. Some that can speak it can't even speak it fluently.

Wow, I'm just finding it out about this language thanks to you. Not many people know anything about it given the fact it was developed since 1965. It seems the language has not been backed by govt/relevant bodies that's why it's mostly unknown.

English and Guosa. Guosa is an artificial language that borrows from several indigenous Nigerian and some west African languages. I'm not fluent, but can speak a thing or two. Due to the fact that I'm learning from text book, I'm sure my pronunciation is totally off. I hope they release it on Duolingo or some other learning platform

Pidgin English has so taken over most of those pple's language skills. Same thing with Benin people. I guess it's a BenDel thing
darfay:
You guys need to do something about urhobo language because it's seriously dieing out. I was at ughelli sometime last year and as big the town is. I did not for once hear anybody speak urhobo not even in that very busy market close to otovwodo where a good number of the traders are urhobo themselves, same scenario is unthinkable in Lagos even with it's very cosmopolitan nature.
A lot of urhobo people born in urhoboland particularly around sapele, uvwie, warri and ughelli are unable to speak their language
