For the sake of your children education, you can relocate to some countries that will pay you and your family for relocating or some school that you offer scholarship to international students.

Search on the net, you will find these countries and even on you tube.

Since you have not been in business before I will strongly advice against going into business, it is not as easy as that especially with the current situation in Naija.

For farming I invested in farming I regretted it because there are certain things I was not aware of, it is very easy to calculate expected profits on paper but not on reality.

Many countries are looking for you and your family, UK and Canada are out of these countries please.

Check you will get one.

In case you decided to remain in Naija, don't invest on business that you don't know anything about please and don't give that money to anyone to help you do the business. Hmmmm speaking from experience.

Apply to as many as possible or use Indeed, jobserve, I don't believe schooling is the best way to go considering your age and experience.

I have experience delving into this, directly with food (maize and cassava), and indirectly with livestock (poultry birds). Profitability is low, FOR ME anyway. Of everything I have invested on in my working life to date, agric brought me the least profit margin and the most stress. If you can find a way higher up the value chain to invest in (eg distribution, processing) then more profits can be realised there. I myself am trying to study some things so I can sink my teeth in that.

I'll say go for it if you can travel without selling any of your properties, especially the landed properties. But this will be difficult since you need to go via study route and you'd need money to cater living expenses upon landing.

It's still a dilemma.

Your situation is very dicey in the sense that you havent been doing business, starting one now when Nigeria has almost gone to the baboons, hyenas and jackals won't be an easy one. You may end up wasting the 20million savings trying to figure out the business and before you understand the business secrets, you may have folded up.


What does your wife do?


How about relocating alone first to countries like; Finland, Norway, or other unpopular Scandinavian countries for a masters? Finland have a very affordable masters programme for international students, Norway used to be tuition free for Nigerians not until this year they started charging high tuition fee if not, Norway would have been your best bet cos there are plenty jobs, I have people there.


Make more research about studying masters in Finland, etc. If it would cost you 10million to relocate alone, try it and use 6million to setup a pharmacy shop for your wife before you relocate.


But if that route will cost you more then try the next suggestions below:


Map out 10million and setup a pharmacy shop. Your wife will need go on an internship at any pharmacy shop for some months before yours is fully ready to get an idea of how to run the biz with the registered pharmacist you guys would employ.


Setup a small office for yourself to start consulting as a Chartered Accountant. Print good business cards and proposals and submit to supermarket owners, etc to help them organize their stock and bookkeeping, with time you will start getting jobs. Also add external auditing to your portfolio of what you can do.


Create a linkedin profile on this new business of consulting. Inform friends, Church members, clique about your new consulting firm.


Save 7million in a dollar account and keep 3million for running family for now.


Start now to guide your kids to love nursing, medicine, radiography, pharmacy, software engineering, etc. This will prepare them to face future with greater chance of survival.



May God see you through and please don't panic, you are still on top, fear will push you into depression and cause you to start making irrational and foolish decisions that will ruin your years of hardwork.

It is not hard only that your chartered status is not recognised in Canada until you consolidate to do their own exams.

Your degree will still get you a senior technician role but often times you also need advanced excel skills. I do not know if things have changed but a lot of people from Asia and Africa end up doing unskilled work unless you retrain.

What is the area of specialisation of your wife.

You don't have to go to Canada via study route. Like someone advised, learn French aggressively for one year. I mean learn it like your whole life depends on it. Attend french classes, listen to French people talk, speak French and become very comfortable with it. Depending on how much progress you have made studying, you can go to Togo or other francophone countries for 2 months for language immersion. Then write TCF canada or TEF Canada. You will spend money learning

This was what I did. I didn't go to Togo though.

This way, you can preserve your 20million and use it for proof of funds when you get invited to apply for Canada PR.

Join the Canada TEF thread and the express entry thread in travel section.

If you are considering this route:
1. Find out if you are eligible for FSW on Canada dot ca using good ielts score plus B2 french. If you have a masters already, that will be a plus.
2. If you are eligible, apply for credential evaluation with WES Canada.
3. Start your French journey and while at it, write ielts general.
4. With your language scores and WES report, create an express entry profile. When you get invited, apply for PR.

Not an easy route but it's doable.

I have a friend who is in the same situation as you: has #20m to spare but currently unemployed. He's also considering relocation and asked my opinion on whether to start a business or japa a few weeks ago.

So, I've thought long and hard about this.

If I may, I'll suggest you get another job, even if you think it's below your market value. Reason being that it will keep you from depleting your savings too fast. That shouldn't be too hard given your experience, especially if you reside in Lagos, Abuja, or Port Harcourt.

Whilst there may be gain in japaing, you can't say for sure how things will turn out. And the last thing you'd want as a family man is to have the costs eat away at your savings and leave you even more vulnerable than you currently are.

In your shoes, I would stay back here in Nigeria, get a job that pays well enough to allow me save some, and train my kids along a path that will make Japaing easier for them.

About business, I wouldn't risk it. Many businesses are suffering currently, so I'd rather wait it out and see how things turn out. There isn't much gain in running a business in a society with low purchasing power. Of course, some will still thrive, but what's the guarantee you would under the same circumstances?

My friend and his wife once made such decision. I advised against it, they said that thier definition of success is THEIR KIDS SCHOOLING IN USA.
7 years down the line, one kid in university, others doing well in high school but parents have been living from hand to mouth.
There isn't anything you could do with accounting degree. You would surely start afresh with other jobs that feeds you and family without savings.
The kids enjoy free secondary education, you labour Latour Latour. If you are the kind that can't stand having savings per month, you might not survive it.
Go to oyo, osun, states or ilaro side in ogun state, get big farm land against next year.
You can farm up to 100 acres of cassava, under good farm manager( with help of locals too), you would make unimaginable profit after one year.
Invest the remaining money in little thing to feed family before the harvest starts.
Planting season starts March, buy land learn it next year start work

The best advice so far. Invest in farming either crop or Animal farming. Pls poultry excluded. You can message me, as I will give you business plan for animal farming that you won't regret.

Pls run from farming!! Your 20m can turn 20k within a very short period!!! Speaking from experience. No allow any yeye middleman rip you off or you being the middleman by entrusting your resources to a so called expert… it will end In premium tears. Farming isn’t for the faint hearted

Forget the student route to the UK, unless you find a job straight away when you graduate, you will need to re-study in order to stay in the country.

The other option is to come in through the health work visa option (5 year stay) but it will cost a fortune and you need to be careful as there is alot of scammers in the African and Indian community scamming individuals.

Lastly you can start a business in naija but I don't live there to tell you what to invest in.

With due respect sir, my candid advice will be based on some uncertain assumptions of mine in the sense that you will relocating with any viable assurance or guarantee to the life you dream of after relocating. Which involves a lifetime risk indeed.
So I will love to assume myself in you shoe and do the following.
1. I will remain here in Nigeria.
2. Project a business driven city to relocate to, that is if your current location isn't stable.
3. I will decide the capital into 3. 2 for business and 1 to carter for my family needs and expenditures.
4. Start two different businesses not necessarily at same time.
5. Work on them as if your their your only means of survival.
6. Be consistent and be patient in the process for 2-5 years.
7. The world is yours to explore.
