Between 82 and 83. I think it was implemented immediately. I was born in the 80's and made use of the 6334.

Do not argue what you are not sure of.

If I am not mistaken, 6334 was introduced by Prof Babs Fafunwa as education minister under IBB.

There was no 6334 from 82 and 83.

People who entered secondary school in 82 ended up at form 5 in 87.

Do not argue what you are not sure of.

Is it strange to start primary 1 at 4 years?

Na madness de worry dem. I started at 4 years too and left at 9 for secondary. Now its unheard off I guess. 11 years olds are still in primary going to secondary.

The tale of you can’t start school unless your hand can touch the other hair or something? Lol

Don't mind them.
I started primary school at age 4 and completed my secondary school at age 16.
I don't see anything "uproar-worthy" in that.
It's either the senators are just being mischievous or they are plainly ignorant.
Either way, let the Prof breathe!

I watched the screening and I can confirm to you that the prof. did not sound smart enough for a prof. Utmost respect for him. No disrespect. But, you know the senate for what it is. They could be very intimidating. He was sluggish and that was why Akpabio was kind enough to invite senator Abba Morro from his state to defending by jokingly saying" senator Morro, maybe you too finished primary school at the age of 9".

It is even more common now than at your time.

No mind them. Most of the Senators we have in Nigeria are "dullards,", that either started Primary school late or did not attend Primary school at all. A Primary school mate of mine, went to secondary school when he was in Primary 4.

Goan Ask your Mother or Parents Questions.😕😏

Any child that passes through Normal Educational process
WITHOUT DOUBLE PROMOTION OR SKIPPING CLASS will get to Secondary school @11years old. sad

I would not come here to announce my DOB but know this, I entered into secondary school in September/October 1997 and by that conclusion I was 10 years that same summer.

So do tell, I suffered from reading difficulties in primary school and was the last in my class to be able to read a few lines comfortably, I know my life's story I struggled through primary school and even secondary education, so banish the idea I was a special student. My parents still can't understand how I managed to pass the entrance exam into what was a highly sought after school.

Most kids are in school by one these days.

it's likely to start at 4. Not every school has restrictions. Aside some pupils look like 6 @ age 4. If not for strict restrictions in my primary school I' would start at 3yr old but such restrictions are not present in some other schools in my village but I wasn't aware and too little.

It is not strange, I started at 4 and entered secondary school at 10. Though many of my classmates were 1 yr ahead of me, I wasn’t the only one in my set who entered secondary school at 10 and therefore started at 4. In fact I know of 2 people who entered secondary school at 9.
In early 80's?

Even in the 70s.

Most people from middle class backgrounds go to nursery school at age 2 or 3. Niursery school is 2 years. From there you start primary school. Maybe it wasn’t common in the villages or for children of the poor but it was very normal for children of the middle class especially if your parents were educated. I say that not to be elitist but the people I know that started school at 4 (and like I said I know many) are from middle class backgrounds. The older students in school in those days tended to be children from poorer backgrounds..in those those all of us went to the same schools.

As at 1984, it's not possible. If it's in the 90s, I would have agreed with him

Not possible in the 80s. Most schools then were govt/missionary schools and very strict with entry age

My friend. I am telling you I started school at 4 in the 70s and entered secondary school at 10 and it was normal and though much rarer there were even a few who were younger than me and you are arguing with me?

phemmyfour:

I am not going to tell you my school. It was normal in the best schools in the SW in the 1970s.

The average age to enter secondary school in the SW was 11, in any set you will find 1 or 2 who were 10. Most start primary school at age 4 or 5 and some leave to secondary school from primary 5, which is why you may find some who entered El secondary school at age 9.

Pick any prominent secondary school in the SW in the 70s there were students who were age 9 or 10 in form 1. How does a 9 or 10 yr old end up on form 1 if not that he/she started primary school at age 4?
