My only concern about Alvaro Fernandez is his relative lack of pace. I was surprised that he didn’t struggle too much with Nico Williams’ speed. Alvaro beats Malacia in most facets of the game apart from that question mark.

It might be wider to send him on loan for regular minutes because that is the best way to develop. He won’t get better by sitting on the bench for Shaw. Keep Malacia as the bench player and when Alvaro comes back in a season who knows he might even give Shaw a battle.

Yeah he is like an Alonso/Blind hybrid. I am not ruling him out especially he has so much technical quality on the ball and his tactical IQ is top notch, but that lack of pace is a challenge he will always battle, hopefully successfully.
