sukkot: listen very well, I didn’t say they claim to be Ethiopians. He said on tracing their ancestry which his father did and he said it’s well documented, it traces back to Ethiopia The writer of the constitution is saying he is from a Yoruba aristocratic family! The descendant is claiming to be from Ethiopia. The descendant must be on cheap weed. It’s those Oyo or Onikoyi families that have those Muslim names. They migrated around same time with Awori as vassals of the Alaafin. Awori are mostly traditionalist. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Lmao. Elias family does not come from Ethiopia. That guy was whining you because he knows you are ignorant. Elias family are probably from Onikoyi branch and adopted an English name. That is why he claims he is from a traditional Yoruba aristocratic family. Check out his history, Taslim Olawale Elias? If you want to catch a true Lagosian, they have Muslim names too with that English name.
Taslim does not claim to come from Ethiopia . Lagos history is very funny and complicated but we are mostly descended or associate with those Oba’s. Oba of Lagos is the real Awori crown with the real Awori aristocracy. They just intermarried with Benin royalty. Those Lagos Island families are their subjects. Most to be posh adopted English names. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taslim_Olawale_Elias |

Jagznation: Igbo people have to learn ...its time to go back and develop your land So lands reclaimed in Apapa were occupied by Igbos? 🙄🙄 That reveals a lot, Igbos only settle on lands they purchased legally. It's a known fact. You can't reclaim lands sold legally that means the land was occupied previously by Omonile Yorubas who love to grab lands illegally. I know you are your family have sold your ancestral lands legally to Igbos and now squatting somewhere after lavishing the money. That's why you're aroused with this news mugu. |

Probably those that sold the land in the first place never had the right to do so. Even with the government backed documents they still have to vacate because the court has nullified any transaction that ever occurred because those that sold initially never had a right to sell. 1 Like |

Bunch of jokers, this Cardoso family sold all their lands many years ago with authentic family receipts, now they went to corner one judge somewhere to issue one beer parlour judgement.
The resident will not give them a dime except those farm tanks situated inside the town so as not to disrupt their businesses.
The shameful part is that out of the over 50 acres of land they owned and sold, they only have one dilapidated building on half plot of land as their remaining property in the town |

BoldBrainz: Seriously though, when you hear certain names from Lagos, Bayelsa, Cross River and Port Harcourt, it's just very easy to know they were named as slaves by Colonialists. Ancestors of these people were so mentally oppressed that they failed to pass on history to their successive generations. So the families simply grew with names given to them by Western Colonial entities. I have a friend from Bayelsa whose name is Jimmy Bornford. Like, what the actual fvck is "Bornford" supposed to mean ?!
Just imagining myself letting my heritage die with me and failing to pass it on to my future generations !

Ransome-Kuti and a few others are from Abeokuta and not Lagos. The Brazilian sounding names are returnees. The English names are Yoruba Lagosian with Awori roots with old family links to Lagos Island, but they embraced Christianity or Oyinbo names. They all have their own Yoruba family names. Oyinbo used to give names by profession too. So some of those English name allude to profession of ancestors when English people landed in Lagos. yeah like cole is coal miner smith is blacksmith george is judge etc |
