1. Did you read anywhere in that passage that Balaam enquired anything from Yahweh? Nope. In fact, it was Yahweh that was doing the enquiries.

9 God came to balaam and asked, “Who are these men with you?”

20 That night God came to balaam and said, “Since these men have come to summon you, go with them, but do only what I tell you.”

On the first occasion he was asking Balaam who the men are and he(Balaam) explained to Yahweh.
On the second occasion(when the men came back with more stuff), Yahweh told Balaam what to do, which he did.
AT NO POINT DID BALAAM DISOBEY YAHWEH OR EVEN EXPRESS GREED. HE TOLD THEM AB INITIO THAT HE WONT CURSE ISRAEL.

It depends on what you want to find in the Bible, truly, whatever you want to hear, I could force a definition for you. It's wrong.

Here's what to do, read the whole Numbers 22 for context. I'll highlight some points where you'll need to reason out.

First of all, the Bible says that Balaam was a diviner, he knew his work.
Second, the Bible also says that the diviner does all his things but the Lord presents the answers what He Wills (good or bad, true or false).
Thirdly, the Lord sees the heart, and the intents of the heart.

So while reading Numbers 22, take note of verse 7-8,
“[7] And the elders of Moab and the elders of Midian departed with the rewards of divination in their hand; and they came unto Balaam, and spake unto him the words of Balak.
[8] And he said unto them, Lodge here this night, and I will bring you word again, as the LORD shall speak unto me : and the princes of Moab abode with Balaam.”

From the things in bold, you can see that people came to see a diviner with their fees, the diviner told them to wait that he'll reply them when God speaks.
Remember, he's a diviner.
Should we expect that he also went and waited for God to speak or he went and inquired and waited for a sure reply. Remember again, a diviner does divinations, not just to sit around after collecting the fees.
Same statement repeats in verse 19.

From another perspective, look at Jude 1:11 and report your findings.
