You people use Lagos influence to deceive yourselves. Do you know that first indegenous rap album was recorded in Enugu by Massai (onye kwulu oto) .this was many years before Dagrin. Also Mr. Raw and Sloow Dogg were hits in igbo rap before yoruba rap. But I have seen many yorubas laying claims to be pioneers of indegenous rap
When arguing, try to buttress your point with fact. I mean date.

You use a bias search . Article written from east to shine your ego.

We are talking facts here and not some nonsense articles

Check the history of Nollywood

Herbert Ogunde and Moses Olaiya were pioneers in the 1960s.

The first blockbuster was done by Wale Adenuga

Same Wale Adenuga owns Papa Ajasco and super story

These are facts with dates and names not some articles about how a random person started something
I can't see "Nollywood" in your article na.... The evidence shown already to you is clear!!!

Lol, the reason they removed history is because of ibos, don’t just try to dig. They have a very nasty history

When Oyo empire was thriving, they were still walking around naked inside bush. Have you ever wondered why they don’t have any ancient city or royals?
You hear of Oyo empire, Benin empire, sokoto caliphate. Is there anything in history for Igbos? They were unorganized, uncivilized and had no organized society but were scavengers inside bush. The strong beat up the weak and eat them

We should go to the street to count petty traders and gala hawkers or what?
Poverty makes you stay and roam about in the street.

All the facts including the ones from UNDP,WORLD BANK show that from the inception of Nigeria till date,Yorubas have always been the richest both in Nigeria and as Nigerians abroad.

They have the highest number of professors, lawyers, doctors, engineers, real estate practitioners(an Haven for billionaires...Yorubas control almost 70% of this sector....ICT,only GLO in ICT swallows whatever you want to believe you have not to talk of Flutterwave,Esusu etc)
How can you even use your petty trading to equate massive businesses owned by the Yorubas in Nigeria and abroad.

Moreover, only the city of Ibadan has more infrastructures than the entire Igboland SE.
It has the highest number of more than 11 GRAs and still counting in Nigeria.
Please,don't be a clown.
Yet most developed states in Nigeria, Oyo(Ibadan) does not come close to South East!!!

We are proud of our Yoruba movies as it promotes our culture and heritage that's why you see many of them doing great on Netflix and attracting international attention. I can't remember any ibo movie on Netflix that gain attention as Yoruba language in Africa.

We don't need to brake into local English movie of IPOB 😂 the way we started our Afrobeat and Afromusic that's recognized internationally today is the way we want Yoruba movies from Africa to the world.

Yoruba is greater than Africa

I tried to read comments without saying a word.

But I've been wondering and tempted to ask, why is it that an average Yoruba man is tribalistic and hatred filled in nature?? If i don't have it, no one else should have it.
You lied.
You just described the Igbos. Igbo antecedents and actions before and after the 2023 presidential election accurately capture that and the world can attest to it.

Before the election, Igbos preferred Atiku Abubakar (a Fulani man) to be elected president than Bola Tinubu (a Yoruba man) if Peter Obi (an Igbo man) failed to be elected. Meanwhile the outgoing president is also from the Fulani tribe as Atiku. Igbo wanted Fulani to continue ruling as president because they hate Yoruba and that's why Igbo did not preferred Tinubu to be president if Peter Obi failed.

And after Tinubu has been duly elected as the President, Igbo want the military to take over the government. The evidences are there. Arthur Nzeribe's (an Igbo man) plot in the 1993 presidential election towards the annulment of Abiola's (a Yoruba man) victory as the elected president then, is there for all to see.

In this 2023 Presidential election, Tinubu and Atiku got about 50% of the total votes cast in their respective regions, while Obi got over 90% of the total votes cast in his own region.

Which ethnic is tribalistic?
Which ethnic practises "if I don't have it, no one else should have it" mentality?

Why is it that an average Igbo man is tribalistic, envious, clannish and hatred-filled in nature?

Don't be silly....

People have mentioned on this thread the names of the producers and years they were made.

About the number of copies, how am I supposed to know?

Did I make the films?

But provide the data naaaa. You should know the precise year the film was produced, the production company and the marketers. Anything beyond that all what you said is pure lies.

Ija Ominira was made in 1979. This is from the British Film Institute.
This was followed by the likes of Aye and Jayesinmi in the 80s by Hubert Ogunde.
The movie industry in Nigeria was pioneered by Yorubas there's no question about it.

Oga stop making a fool of yourself naaaaa. This is clearly a theater production courtesy of british film institute. Oga stop all these lies abeg. Herbert Ogunde was theater practitioner not a movie actor or producer. These are two distinct things.

All his films were mainly theatre productions and stage plays. None were commercial motion pictures which is the backdrop of Nollywood. Commercial motion pictures started in 1993 with Living in Bondage which set the stage for what we know as Nollywood. Yorubas didn't pioneer Nollywood, igbos did. Yorubas rather pioneered Theater and stage plays so you can say that Yorubas are the founders of the Nigerian version of Broadway.

A theater production courtesy of the British Film Institute?
The Film had nothing to do with the British Film Institute, they just documented it just like IMDB.
The movie is even on Turner classic movies.

Oga stop being foolish. These are stage plays that were developed for theater viewing. They cannot be classed as commercial motion pictures of which nollywood is formed from. Yoruba started Nollywood yet, most Yoruba actors and actresses didn't break through the English version of Nollywood from baba suwe to Mr latin down to Femi adebayo.

The Igbos gave Nollywood life and since Yoruba actors and actresses couldn't break through the English version of Nollywood probably because their english sucks, Dem kuku create Nollywood Yoruba to console themselves.
