Smh. Is that the lie they gave you? You don't know nada. Nollywood is the name given to Nigerian indigenous films industry. That means indigenous films by Nigerians, produced by Nigerians and transmitted to private homes and shown at cinema.

While you were hyping Living in Bondage in the east, several decades before then had been Nigerian films that were block busters that you never knew because such technology which had gained ground in Yorubaland had not reached the East. Nobody in the whole Eastern Nigeria has even seen let alone watch TV until later.

Television started in Yorubaland at a time the rest of Nigeria and Africa had never seen or watched TV!
While the Yoruba were producing films and other contents for TV, the technology has not even reached your side and other parts of Africa.

It's completely fraudulent to now attempt to insinuate Nollywood started when you started watching TV long years later. The Yoruba films being beamed on TV then started Nollywood. You should be grateful to those Yoruba pace setters of Nollywood.

What year did Television technology enter your yorubaland? I patiently await your answer!

Yoruba started Nollywood yet, most Yoruba actors and actresses didn't break through the English version of Nollywood from baba suwe to Mr latin down to Femi adebayo.

The Igbos gave Nollywood life and since Yoruba actors and actresses couldn't break through the English version of Nollywood probably because their english sucks, Dem kuku create Nollywood Yoruba to console themselves.
Yorubas didn start Nollywood.
You may argue that yorubas may have started private acting without the support of NTA, But the NOLLYWOOD and the nomenclature NOLLYwOOD as a niche and BRAND for Nigeria movie industries started more by the IGBOS.
But raising this argument is mischevous because tracing the real history of the movie industry in Nigeria will lead you to a more national than tribal origin.

What happens to "FOR BETTER FOR WORSE", "MIRROR IN THE SUN", "VILLAGE HEADMASTER" "NEW MASQUERADE", other movies from various NTV NTA branch stations and also their entries into NTA NIFEST etc contests from TV PLAY HOUSES

The first TV station in Africa was in Yorubaland, so how could any recorded drama start from anywhere other than Yorubaland?

Let me burst your bubble Jaiyesinmi was produced by a British Fredrick Goode for theater viewing. Which has already disqualified it as indigenous. Still the title for the pioneers of Nollywood which we know is indigenous is still the igbos. You are talking about television station being non existent forgetting that by the 60s before the war we already had a TV station in Enugu. Dude stop trying to derail this topic with diversionary tactics. The truth is there the wholly indigenous nollywood started with igbos in the heraldingnof Living in Bondage.

Yorubas made theatre like films very early. But it was Alaba market and Iweka Road that made an industry out of it.

Some people actually think that Nollywood started with 'Living In Bondage ' and 'Domitila'. Smh.

Aisha is even schooling them for free when they should be paying to recieve this kind of knowledge.

Everything about entertainment in Africa, from the first TV station to the first stadium etc, has its root in Ibadan, the heart of Yorubaland through the vision of our forebears. Thank you Aisha for the free education you are giving them.

Entertainment business is total package and it's bringing in billions into Nigeria through the Nigerian music, sports and film industry pioneered by the Yoruba and still owned by the Yoruba.

The chart bursting Nollywood films are produced in Yoruba but subtitled in English, Asake sings in Yoruba, all the Nigerian music Stars that performed at his UK show, including Tunde Baiyewu of Light House, are Nigerians and Yoruba with link to Nollywood. Most of those sound tracks in Yoruba films come from these Yoruba global Musicians.

Even Gospel musicians like Tope Alabi are connected to Nollywood while World Boxing Champion Anthony Olufemi Joshua, World Athletics record-holder Tobi Amusan, along with Odunlade Adekola, Olamide, Teni and others are Glo Ambassadors, Iya Rainbow, Lateef Adedimeji, Dele Odule from Nollywood as Airtel Ambassadors, with their faces all over local and international Nigerian entertainment contents sponsorship.

Yoruba started Nollywood when the rest of Nigeria and Africa had not even seen or watched a TV in their lives and the Yoruba still own Nollywood till date.

The Yoruba can teach others in Nigeria and Africa how they sustain this global feat and dominance of entertainment if others are humble enough to learn from the Yoruba. We are all Nigerians/Africans and we can learn from one another. Check my signature for free stuffs!

Nowhere can you see a list of the best movies in Nigeria that Igbos will have even 20 out of 200 but you will see the one that Yorubas will pick 170 or more out of 200.
They are the owners and pioneers of arts, movies etc in Nigeria.
The Afrobeat created by the Yorubas is what what is making waves even abroad now.
The problem with you Igbos is you are too emotional to accept that Yorubas are your benefactors, helpers and senior brother in achievements.. I don't want to use superior because it sounds demeaning.

What is the argument now?
Who started Nollywood and own it? cheesy

The Nigerian Movie Industry was nicknamed Nollywood by a US movie analyst in line with Hollywood and Bollywood.

Yorubas were the first to do acting, theatre plays, films, cinemas. etc.

20 years or more after,Igbos were the first to put the movie industry on video.

Till date, streaming et al Yorubas are the best in the movie industry and they dominate the movie industry with award winning and best selling movies. Not removing the fact that Igbos too are doing good but not as good as the Yorubas.

The answer is obvious.

Nowhere can you see a list of the best movies in Nigeria that Igbos will have even 20 out of 200 but you will see the one that Yorubas will pick 170 or more out of 200.

To be candid igbo developed it in early 2000 cos personally i watched igbo movies back then than yoruba movies. I knew d likes of Emeka ike, Jim, Saint obi ,Tom west and co.. I think d limiting factor dat hindered their progress was their inability to grow new set of stars nd build d platform for them. but yoruba took over at a point ,and those small actors they trained are more versatile, dynamic and prolific...see d likes of Odunlade, Kunle afolayan, Chatta, Femi adebayo,Gabriel afolayan and Lateef adedimeji.. I dont think igbo can really meet up with them again. Gone are d days of Jim iyke , Nnaji ,Mike,Aki pawpaw and co

It's only Liegerians that always ask: "Who started this or who started that?" In America, I have never seen or heard where Americans asked which race started Hollywood, from which, Nollywood derived its name. But leave it to Liegerians, they always major in the minor and minor in the major. However, since this question has come up, let's get to the root of it. Now, can somebody conduct a Google search and tell us who or what tribe started Nollywood? And the answer is.....!
