Please is that how it's been done? I bought a land early 2018 and now I feel like selling out. The families who sold it to me said they are entitled for their own percentage from the money the buyer is offering. Please I need to know if that's how it's done. I only went to inform them I would be handling the piece of land to a new owner and thought kola nut and palm wine would be it, since they also sold to several people there and also have some available I thought I should let them know for future reference... instead they are asking how much I am selling and wants to know every details of it.

Meanwhile the deeds that's about to be prepared would be in my name and that of the buyer, what consigns the family?

I had to tell them that's not possible it's my own land I bought from them I am selling, he went further and said it's either they buy it back from with same amount I bought 2018 or I give them their percentage from the appreciating amount or I develop and let matter rest.

You don't owe them anything, i wonder why you need us to tell you that. Did you get full receipt , documents etc when you bought, did you do a basic survey.

Tell them they've sold the land to you it's yours.(it would have had a better effect if you had told them immediately )You can give them a token if you wish as a gift

Also location rural or urban will help pple answer you well

Your mistake was telling them beforehand.

They know u are soft so they want to capitalize on that.

U should av ask an agent to sell it for you.

Since you've involve them, they won't back off, the buyer may feel threatened and won't buy again.

If u leave it again, they might sell and tell u to come and collect your money since they are already certain you aren't interested in using the land yourself.

Alot of things can happen since you've involved them.

That’s the issue with lands in the country. Now that you have mentioned it to them, they surely expect you to either give them a cut or they sell it without giving you shishi. If the said land in within a good area, they simply will give you another one in a more remote part of the area.

I have the same issue currently. Certain strong men now claim that since I purchased the said land from their fathers, now we must SHARE the proceeds from sale if it is sold. The value currently is at 10m and they want us to split 50/50. Wahala dey. Infact they have asked me not to bother as they will provide the buyer.

All you need is care. If you attempt to force their hands, they get violent.

You bought land, paid fully for it, them decided to sell it and the former owners are demanding for commission.

it doesn't happen in the east at all once you have sold your land is gone if the owner choose to do anyhow with it that's his business

They mean if the new buyer decides to sell the land in the future, he has to give you your cut, and you have to give them a cut from that cut, and they have to give to their dead ancestors a cut from the cut of that cut.

You want to sell your own land that has your name and would also have the name of the prospective buyer, how the hell did the people that sold it to you now enter the picture
Better arrange their cut and give them since you’ve decided to show your weakness, next time use your head and intuition when dealing with things like this, what I read up there just irritated me to be honest.

you shouldn't have inform them, whatever you do with your land is none of their business so far you've paid them in full when buying from them initially.
