That's why I said Lagos law... under tenancy law, a tenant is entitled to 6 months quit notice.. rent free!!! That's if the tenant pays rent yearly o... if the tenant dey pay rent every 2 yrs, then him quit notice na 1yr...

There is nothing like free 6months anywhere, if he is having 10months left, the landlord gives 6months notice, he will only get a refund for 4months and must pack out at the 6th month end, if he wants to live immediately, he is entitled to the 10months rent, if he uses a day plus with the 6months after he has gotten a refund, he must pay the landlord for the extra day.
@op, you are not the tenant from your narrative, the man is right to send you out of his premises for damage to his property, thank God he no carry you go station, you for learn the hard way.

I am sure you are not a Lawyer. Please stop advising on what you don't know about.

The Length of Notice a Tenant is entitled to is dependent on the Terms of the Tenancy Agreement but where the Tenancy Agreement doesn't provide for the Length of Notice, then the Law provides for 6 Months Notice (in the Ops case).

Note that the Quite Notice can be issued when the Tenancy is still running and even if it is issued after the tenancy have expired, it is not free and the Landlord can still recover it if he wishes.

First thing first, you shouldn't have tampered with the pumping machine. Since you did tamper with the pumping machine and the gate man saw you, then this isn't good for you.

Who did he rent the apartment to? Since he's saying he doesn't want to see you in his house, it looks like it's your mum. All the same, if you're a dependant, you should get a lawyer also and be ready to slug it out with him.

It is his house doesn't mean he has the right to say who he wants in your house and who he doesn't want. Just be ready to tackle him and be ready to take up the matter in court and also report to the Police.

You have right to live in a house your parent have paid for. Your rent has not expired so he can not quit you until the expiration. Even if he goes to court, you can deny all the charges.

Apologize to him and if he does not allow you into the compound, simply proceed with legal action. Do not go to police, because it is a civil case. Get a lawyer to file a court action with just 1000 naira and get him to magistrate court. He will calm down.

Some people actually think the rent notice is free, one case happened for my area, the landlord na weyrey, he continued with the court case to get the rent for that period even after he left, thinking the landlord no go sabi his new apartment. The man is not going to lose a dime. Your QUIT NOTICE started counting as your RENT is going on.

You are a trouble maker. Bible says give honour to whom honour is due to. The Landlord lives in the house and you have the gut to damage the pumping machine and still confront the man . A man who is wealthier and far better than you and your family. You are a big threat to him and you don't have option rather than to leave the house. If that man is a military man or a senior police officer can you do such? This is how many of you die young. The OP is a Tenant and the Landlord cannot validly restrict his movement into the property.
