Hi dear, I would advise against doing that. Please stick to what you get from your seniors. Different schools have their way of teaching, course content, method of grading, etc. Your seniors would give you what you need. That would prevent you from wasting your time in studying what's not necessary.
All right. I sincerely commend you bosslady.

Hello Tunmex, As a graduate of Anatomy and a 4th Year Medic gearing up for 5th Year soon, I really can't speak for everyone. But based on my experience, using this your method will make revision for exams easy for you as you'll have a comprehensive note to fall back to..,,,, the downside of this is that it can make you to be very slow. You may end up not completing the course outline even once.

My suggestion is to study like as if you're meeting a potential "girlfriend". You go on "dates" with her just to get to know her better. The more dates you go with her, the more familiar you both become. When you eventually ask her to be your girlfriend, there is a high chance of receiving a huge YES.

SAME thing applies to whatever I'm studying. I go on "dates" by using a fast study technique to study that material several times. All 3 times I'm studying, the aim isn't to understand, but to get familiar with the diagrams, the terms, the strange words. This will help you to have a mental picture of the whole material.

By the time exam timetable is out, with the help of adrenaline, understanding will be made wayyyy easier if you're already familiar with the terms, diagrams and strange words.

Study anatomy with atlas. Use YouTube as well.

I've uploaded comprehensive videos that will help you if you're interested in a deep explanation of all this.

In summary, Medical school doesn't have only one formula. Try out several methods, ask other medics how they do their studying. Stick to what is working for you. Once you find out it's not working, don't waste time,,,, switch to another strategy IMMEDIATELY!
Hello Doc Ruyi, good day. I will like to ask if such method is also applicable to non medical course like botany, considering the fact that it is not as bulky as Medicine. Coz I do find it stressful and demanding taking notes while reading a material for the first time, what do you suggest? Thanks alot

Hey guys. So I just recently repeated a class in med school and I don't really know how to move past this. I worked really hard and still ended up repeating with 0.05 mark. I am terribly sad and I really do not know how to move past this

Hello, I used same method for WAEC and JAMB biology (which included plant biology). It should help you too. You'll never know until you try it. I wish you great success!! smiley

Hello Cocopops, repeating because of 0.05 mark is very saddening. I can imagine that you're disappointed in yourself and in the nigerian Medical school system as a whole. Please don't give up.

I can't even tell you to find out what went wrong because you were this close to getting the 50%. What I'll say is that you could get a survival mechanism. It could be staying off the social media of your former colleagues, it could be anything. Try to stay away from anything that will trigger your sadness.

Then pick yourself up and give it another try, however with a change in study strategy. [This is coming from someone who used to have 30's-40's (E's-F's) in a particular course in my first degree, but yet got a distinction in that same course in my second degree].

It will be hard at first, especially if you're an emotional person. But give it time. Remember to stay away from social media triggers if possible.

I wish you all the best. In several years time, you'll look back and tell the story to someone who's hurting like you did several years back. I'm able to talk to you about this because I was in your shoes 10-11years ago (as a 200L Ana student).

BTW if perhaps you're interested and you've not seen this, it could help. I spoke based on my experience.

What to do when your results do not reflect the efforts you've put into studying. How to change that situation.

Medical and Dental students do not use CGPA grading system from 200L till graduation. It is either Distinction, Pass or Fail. They use CGPA only in 100L.

Though there is room for resit and repeat too. In my school, if you fail one or two courses (though subjects is more appropriate to use) out of the three courses, you resit after 3 months but if you fail any after resit, you repeat the class. If you fail all the three courses at first attempt, you will be advised to transfer to another department.

Hello, good evening.
It is okay to mourn and cry over what has happened, but it is not okay to continue to do so.

You should please pick yourself up and continue to push. It would have been better if you mentioned the actual MB you failed but it's fine. I would suggest you take out sometime to reflect on what went wrong and what you didn't do correctly.

Are you a loner? A one man Army? Someone who separates from the Class? If yes, now is the time to begin to mingle with the Class, Eventhough these ones are now your former juniors.

Do you attend discussions? Personal ones? CMDA? If no, now is the time for a change.

You don't have all the time to begin to feel sorry for yourself, I know it's hard but please you just have to put in all you can.

I don't know if you're a Christian, if you are, now is still the time to actually focus on God. You need all the help as far as Medical School is concerned.

Eventhough it's hard, but please, as you start the Class again, try not to let your work pile up.

Plus there's a saying here in my school "know what your mates know". You needn't be hyper-stuffed. But be stuffed enough to be among the bulk of the Class who would progress to the next Class.

I pray God helps you even in this trying times.

Nothing like being too Old, it's about how much you really want it.

Go for it bro.

As for studying, start reading as early as possible.

Good day people, please don't skip.
This is my first time of writing JAMB and I need advice. I got 252 in JAMB and I'm an aspirant of UI's medicine and surgery. So as not to waste a year at home, I've decided to change my course to physiology and then switch back to medicine in 200level. Am I making the right decision? I don't want to do something I'll regret.

Greetings dear, i apprehend every action you have got to macquire. Sincery, my candid advice is to change to a less competitive state university that falls within your catchment areas or better still to be on a safer side, considering your jamb score, forget about federal university for now unless you`ve got strong connection outrightly as per say. change to your state of origin tertiary institution to increase your chances of getting admitted. Quit the concept of switching from another department to medicine, because this route is extremely rigorious and demanding lots of criterials.

Hi dear, well; age should not be a determinant factor to you if realistically you want to be a Doctor. By the grace of God, i am 22 and i am patiantly waiting for my mbbs admission. So you see, age should not be an impediment to you. When you get to medical school, you will still see people older than you in the same class competing with you for higher scores. Refer the diaries of (Dr TONYE MBBS, BSC ANATOMY) (Dr RUGGEDFIGHTER) you gat to apprehend this scenerior.

First and foremost, you are not the first and will definitely not be the last to repeat a class in Medical school. It's time for you to reflect on why you repeated and make the necessary adjustments. Don't joke with classes and attend group discussions if you have the opportunity even when you're not a member of the group. And finally, Read as if you want to have a distinction; this should reflect in your attitudes towards classes, practicals and your personal study. Do a lot of reading and rereading; multiple revisions. Don't be downtrodden because you'll forget all this when in few years time when you start practising.

Yes, you made the right decision as it is evident that your Jamb score is too low to study Medicine in UI unless anyone will want to deceive you.

You can cross from Physiology to Medicine after 100L in UI.
Recently, some folks cross from Biochemistry Physiology and Human Nutrition to Medicine. Before it used to be an herculean task but I guess it is getting easy these days. Just aim for a very high CGPA in your 100L.

It has to be from basic medical sciences courses like Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry or Biological science courses like Zoology, Botany (I doubt if Universities still consider biological sciences)

I don't think all medical students are crammers. Me personally find cramming very stressful, find out what works for you but then you won't know what works for you until you get to medical school.

Sorry for that, repeat is painful because those who used to be your mates now become your seniors but you need to move past it else you'll be stuck. You have to sit down and think about what you did not do right.
