Yoruba call this thing Egbesi...I suffered a lot from it when I was little but some people outgrown it....the only thing I can remember is that my mum just rubbed Red oil mixed with potash on my entire body and it will clear off after some times .

Once it started scratching you, don't scratch it back. Just let it be. It will surely stop. Or you can rub red oil on the spot.

Looks to me like a case of mild allergies. Your scratching it added to it spreading. It could have resulted from your beddings (sheets) or some tiny insect that crawle on you, leaving behind it's microscopic urine or poop, or even it's saliva.
If it was the peanut you ate, ummm...the symptoms would be more of your eyes swelling or lip rash or tongue feeling sensitive or some gastrointestinal upset.
