Joking kwa, that's how I traveled during my schooling days. Most especially when I started throwing up during journeys.

I'll have a light breakfast the day before I travel and that would be it, the following day during my trip, I'll eat light snacks when we've covered half of the journey. When I eventually reach my destination, I'll eat properly. I noticed that after I started doing this, I
stopped throwing up, and maintained empty bowels all through the journey.

mariahAngel:
😲
Is it that serious?
Yup.

My concern is a nurse injecting the patient assuming that he has eaten. Trust me, if it is those strong drug that is not administered unless one has eaten, that patient will not wake up. It is a death sentence. Drugs requirements differ; some require meal before ingestion, while others do not. In fact, eating before taking certain drugs is discouraged. Some physicians may opt to delay the drug's administration for a certain period.
See eehh, If you take a medication that requires food on an empty stomach and didn't experience any adverse effects, it doesn't necessarily mean that nothing happened. It's possible that you simply haven't noticed any immediate or significant effects. Give it time.

Her drugs might be one of those that doesn't require you to eat before using..

Let her take drugs like nitrofurantoin without eating, I'm pretty sure she'd have PTSD from the experience ... 😁😁😁😁

You must be joking... Why waste money taking cold and flu to the doctor when you can easily have them treated at home?

Did you ever travel from Jos to Lagos with Adamu Salisu buses or Plateau Riders buses? grin

I can't remember. This was 25 years ago.

I just remember some experiences.

There was this big bus I was supposed to enter but I chose another. I later encountered the initial bus. It had tumbled over off the road. There seemed to he a full 50 gallons petrol or diesel keg. Those were the days of petrol scarcity.

Another happened around Southern Kaduna heading to Jos. The driver of the bus I was in noticed a hunter going with his 2 dogs beside the road. The driver sped close to one of the dogs and killed it. We just heard two thuds; one for running over the dog with the front tyre and the second thud for the rear tyre. We were all condemning the driver but he was laughing. Muslims don't like dogs.

Another time I took night bus. We were stuck in mud for like 2 hours, aside the biting cold. After we took off, I became so cold as the glass on my side of the window was faulty so the cold wind was blasting at me and my teeth started chattering. I was so cold

Another time on my way to Lagos, we passed through Minna. The bus conductor in the bus was so furious that the Okada were not driving fast enough and he started flogging them and even passengers with koboko. I had never seen such madness before.

I might have taken Adamu and Sons. You know I mentioned apart from the luxuriouses buses there were other big buses. I suspect the other big buses might have been Adamu and Sons and. Plateau Riders. I'm 99% sure the luxurious bus was Igbo.

I never "stayed". I used to go sign every month, so I traveled once a month.

But if the person needs an urgent surgical procedure, empty stomach is an advantage.
If unconscious, medication administration will be by IV.

Reasons why fluid ( normal saline , dextrose water and the likes) are mostly administered to the patient first before anything ..

You don't just go pumping someone full of drugs on an empty stomach unless you're sure there won't be any adverse effect....

Some of those fluid has glucose in them (dextrose water) which literally serves as food for the time being till the patient regains consciousness or he/she is willing to swallow anything..

That's why you see most hospitals passing drips into a patient.. sometimes the medication is usually being injected in those drips...

I can go a full day without eating...so what to eat ain't a problem. As someone who was normally frequently between North and South East during school days!! I will only get myself a sprite and bottle water, and will only have my pee at the designated places the bus normally stops for people to ease off. But if I'm that pressed which has happened only once, na inside one of my empty water bottle or sprite can I run my thing...!!

As for poopoo, it will never happen to me because I watch what to eat before travelling. For those that eat anything on the way, please get fragil drugs beforehand traveling, it will tighten your stomach against poopoo.

The last time I went to the clinic for a cold and flu was back when I was still a young child under the age of ten.

After that, I've been treating them at home all these years, in fact, I don't see flu as a big deal.

But the brother decided to run to the doctor to get 3 injections and I'm sure he went to the private doctor... grin grin grin

Plus a qualified nurse should not assume but work based on facts.

how does she work with fact if the hospital doesn't have the patient's medical record huh

I got my Bsc at NOUN.

Lectures? No lecture, you have to study on your own. Though few students organize tutorials. I never participated in any tutorial. I studied on my own. I only went to the centre during exams, collection of course materials and verification of documents.

Not a must, but it helps.

I typed my project by myself because I have a laptop. Some textbooks may not be available in hard copy and you will have to download them. Better to read from a laptop that has bigger screen compared to reading from phone.
Re: Long Distance Travel: What Do You Eat Or Drink Before You Travel? by Nobody: 4:27pm On Sep 24, 2023
Motion sickness also doesn't usually start before the journey, it's only on a few occasions that it would happen before traveling.

I think in this case but of you are right because in nigeria is always a trend to eat before injection or tablet even some doctors and nurses will ask you to be sure, but in critical condition nobody will ask if you have eaten. He is right because in nigeria medical professionals have made us to know that taking medication with empty stomach is not good because of low stamina.
And you are also right because in south africa πŸ‡ΏπŸ‡¦ all the doctors and nurses I have visited none of them had ever asked if I have eaten, after listening to your symptoms they will bring injection or tablet to give you straight away.
A doctor have given me 3 different injection without asking if I have eaten. That very day I was even scared thinking I'm gonna fall!!!!!!!

not all drugs requires you to eat before use ...

There's an antibiotic that requires you to use it 2hrs before food ...

can't remember the name...

And some other ones requires you to eat as much as possible before use oo .. if not, you'll be dealing with more than you bargained for ...

Oh OK, now I understand.

Those days of J5, chai!

Things have come and go, and many will still come and go.

Just like my trip to Kano for my NYSC back then, the driver parked and waited for us to get something to eat, omoh our search for food(kiosk or food sellers) on leg that night suppose reach 1 kilometer because we were just going up and down, he will still drive small, park and tell us to go and find food, it was actually a chartered bus and I don't think the man is familiar with the route there because at a point he started asking people for directions, the funny thing is all these happened in the middle of the night o, well this bandit issue never start then, na only Boko Haram dey worry that time...

Thank God for life o.

Yes, thank God for life.

Though I was posted to Bauchi, when going the first time, I took a luxurious bus to Kano.

When I got to Kano,I now learnt I had taken the wrong bus, that i should have taken Jos instead. Then take a bus to Bauchi an hour away.

However, at Kano, I could take a bus from Kano directly to Bauchi. At the bus park, there was a big bus going to Bauchi but it would take forever to be full.

There was a rickety small bus that was fast filling. I sat in front. I was only one allowed to sit in the front with the bus driver (I was to discover why later)

As we were going, (the bus wasn't fast), the bus kept stopping every 30 -45 minutes. The radiator would have started overheating and he would remove the seat beside me and pour watering the radiators below the seat. I had to come down any time he did this.

As if this was not bad enough, my doir window was not working, so I was blasted by the sun. I was feeling hot and dehydrated.

I was now hoping to find sellers of pure water or bottle water along the road but there as none. I was becoming frustrated until I came across sugar cane. I bought some and started biting away at it. The juice in it satisfied my thirst. I now understood why Hausas liked sugarcane [I might also be wrong grin]

Your story resonated with me that's why I chose to share mine

I don't bother myself, I will surely eat some little food and little water very early in the morning and take 2 flagly tablet, before embarking on any longer distance journey. That tablet can take me for 2 days before I will feel the need to go to the toilet. That has always been saving me.

next time just take loperamide..

you don't want those naughty bacteria in you to develop resistance to your unnecessary use of flagyl ...

One day you'll need to use the flagyl then it turns out, it's not working ...

Unless your stool is caused by bacteria, you don't take flagyl.. instead loperamide...
