We don't need Cambage in D'tigress set up. We have so many ladies who want to play for Dtigress at the moment. Cambage is bad press and baggage for Nigeria. Anyway, so what's popping at Dtigers camp?, guys? We switch to the Men now. The Olympic qualifiers will commence on the 14th of August 2023 in Lagos. As usual, our NBA stars are not in camp, except Captain Chimezie Metu . We have many unknown guys in camp. What's your take on this event being hosted in Lagos?

These NBA guys hardly ever participate in any tournament expect Olympics and world cup.. it's either the NBBF isn't making enough effort to convince them, or they are simply not interested.... The other day, I read a quote from Gabe Vincent where he said if he were to pick between winning an Olympic medal with Nigeria and winning an NBA championship,he would pick the former...now, duty calls, he no show... Most of the regular guys have been a no show since the last Olympics... We're parading a weak squad...it's not assured we will grab that Olympics qualifying tournament ticket.

As foe the host venue, it seems like the indoor sport hall at the national stadium is not in good condition cus Eko hotels convention center will host it... Naija self...

...you cant blame the NBA guys for not showing up, these guys are just trying to protect themselves as our federation is a no show. most are just scared of possible injury when on national duty, as you know, our federaton will most likely abandon any player that picks injury, hence the stakes must be really worth it to show up, that is why they show up for World cup or Olympics and not qualifiers.

I read that Gabe Vincent interview too. However, I don't think we will be parading a weak team. I am happy it is not the Sacramento Kings Coach that is in charge of DTigers at this tournament. I am happy it is Coach Odaudu in charge. With some determined play, Nigeria can win this qualifiers towards the 2024 Olympics. I have seen some names on the roster and these guys are good. I think we can do well, if we play to an advantage due to the home support. It is Tunisia and Senegal I am scared of, but they are beatable.

I am familiar with some names on the list of invited Dtigers players- Daniel Utomi, Ike Ndugba, Michael Eric, Victor Ezeh, UC Iroegbu and Michael Okiki. Metu is also well known. I think we will present a good squad because some of the new players are talented and play in the collegiate system in the USA. Victor Ezeh is really good. We should not write these guys off. I would have preferred Julius Nwosu to be on the coaching staff. He would be very useful to inspire the boys during the tournament.

Any pics of the court? Is it any close to the arenas in the Kigali or Dakar?

The closest I've seen of the convention center hosting basketball games was during an advert on TV.. it looks more like a concert venue..
Tomorrow, we shall see

I dont think the fear of injury is the main factor sha... They can get injured anywhere.... They just don't have the commitment...it's the thing with a lot of NBA stars.. national team assignment doesn't mean much to a lot of them... Maybe it's time we beam our searchlight to Europe....

I hope you're right, cus since the last Olympics, all the squad we have paraded have been mostly average... From the Afrobasket to the world cup qualifiers...

Totally agree with you. If Dtigers qualify for the Olympics, we should ignore the NBA stars who ignore call ups for national assignments. There are other capable players who ply their trade in Europe, Africa and Asia or in the collegiate system of the USA who can get the job done. Cheers.

The injury excuse isn't valid and I don't think any of them have even given this as an excuse. The most I hear is the unprofessionalism of the NBBF and their treatment of players. Thing is, the NBBF isn't doing the most basic things to make it easier for these players to commit. You'll notice 3 weeks or so to this tournament, the D'Tigers page on Twitter put up a post on twitter implying they were yet to hear from the NBBF.

Communication is key when it comes to athletes. This is exactly the same thing that happened to the D'Tigress. More importantly, the treatment of the girls was public knowledge. You make your program unattractive that way.

As valid as this excuses are Metu continuosly shows up in spite of them

We just lost to Senegal 87-93. Bad start . The Senegalese guys proved too strong for Dtigers.

I had to stop watching. This team is horrible on defence, and they aren't so great on offence too. No point being hopeful as we wouldn't have gotten the ticket even if we got out of the group.

This coach has also led team Nigeria to 2 consecutive defeats now. We need to get a good coach for the national team. Having 3-4 coaches in the last 2 years just won't work.

Don't be too confident I. The NBBF might just mess things up.

We'll likely be in the same group with Senegal and 2 other teams from Europe just like the last time. If we don't have a great roster with solid preparation, we may just miss out.

I say again that we need to do away with this dependency on American based players in our basketball teams.... Let's look at Europe abeg... Missing the world cup is painful....

Our missing the World cup has nothing to do with where players come from. It is primarily about the maladministration of the NBBF. BTW, majority of our players come from Europe as is, the only consistent NBA player that has rostered for us the last 2 years has been Metu. Every other person players I'm Europe or Europe adjacent.

Once adminstration is sorted out, we can then define what we want to achieve as a program. We scout for the right players irrespective of where they play that will help achieve this, get them to buy-in and provide the right atmosphere and give the needed support for them to achieve it.

USA have already qualified for the Olympics by virture of being defending champions... So it's two teams that would qualify from the group..
Basically,its between us and Senegal...

.. Lol... Una no rate Belgium o.. Lol...if Emma Messeman see this kind forum likr this , her head fit spark more.. B.t.w Belgium are European champions o, they beated frace in Semis and Spain in the eurobasket women finals. For me, for us to beat Belgium, we must go with the old squad, otherwise we should just target a win over Senegal and keep it moving. I honestly do not see the new squad beating Belgium, they are a very patient team and they love the low post, with the old squad, yes we can, with this new squad, i do not see that happening...

I know how good the Belgian team is o. I was more or less just saying there's a possibility that we both qualify however unlikely that is cause of his last statement.

Yes. I meant Nigeria and Senegal.

It's sad that the Senegalese fans aren't enthused about their team. Who says they can't beat Belgium. There's a world where Belgium has a bad day and they lose. It's just one game. Anyways nothing concern me, was only trying to be pro African. Na Nigeria concern me and we should dha beat Senegal and qualify.

The NBBF shouldn't play rough play. If I were to draw up a roster right now, this will be it:

I'll group them into 2 groups of non- negotiables and negotiables:

Non- Negotiables
Amy Okonkwo
Tomi Taiwo
Promise Amukamara
Victoria Macaulay
Lauren Ebo
Musa Murjanatu
Pallas Akpannah
Adaora Elonu
Ezinne Kalu

Negotiables
Elizabeth Balogun
Sarah Ogoke (pretty sure she'll make the team, but her shooting is horrible)
Nicole Enabosi
Blessing Ejiofor
Ifunaya Okoro

What do you guys think
