Kobojunkie: She is not. Someone with an Msc, who graduated from a Nigerian public University with all the strikes cannot be under 21 na. That my question needed practical answers based on experience to judge if the practice is uniform throughout the federation. |

Kobojunkie: I don't have that detail. But I was informed by the local government registry when they conducted the marriage talk. |

airsaylongcome:Being legally married is second to being traditionally married boss. Even in western culture, you have to ask the permission of her parents first. In our culture, you have to pay bride price first simple. |

otomatic:I am afraid you have been busy writing and submitting letters that are unnecessary then. Even the Nigerian embassy link there explains that consent letters are only required for people under 18 years of age. |

otomatic:My parents registered their marriage more than 3 decades ago in that very same Nigeria, and they never had to submit Letters of consent from anyone. I had never heard of anyone having to submit Letters of consent seeking permission from parents until now. And now I know why. Because those letters are only required in the case the couple in question or at least one partner is below the age of consent, which makes sense. 1 Like |

tonicyril: The same law can also be used against the woman too just know the loopholes in the marriage registry. With a good lawyer such a woman will get nothing from the marriage and I will do DNA for all my kids on coded level. Any woman who wants to hoard sex will suffer it also. I will also hoard my dick. |
Re: Court Marriage Without Paying Bride Price by otomatic(m): 7:16pm On Nov 20, 2023 |
Kobojunkie: Something that the requirements are in a leaflet form. I wonder what other instructions you will read other than the one the registry has given you. It is not Nigerian consulate that will perform this marriage but the registry. So just follow instructions from them. |

Re: Court Marriage Without Paying Bride Price by Kobojunkie: 7:18pm On Nov 20, 2023 |
otomatic:1. Post an image of it make we see abeg!. 2. There are no two different Nigerian laws... The Marriage Act in Nigeria is the same act that is used and referenced by even Nigerian embassies everywhere in the world. So, don't deceive yourself into thinking one court can do its own thing while others can also do their own thing. The Law is unified for a reason. 1 Like |

oluwaseyi0:1. That there is the most irritating part of it all.! 2. Were you also required to submit Letters of consent from your parents to register your marriage with the courts? |
Re: Court Marriage Without Paying Bride Price by otomatic(m): 7:22pm On Nov 20, 2023 |
Kobojunkie: Change is constant. And processes are dynamic. Maybe then it was not an issue. Maybe now men are absconding with people's daughters and the families are making trouble. I mean how else will you explain a topic such as this. Someone wants to marry without paying bride price and wants the registry to provide cover. Wait until a powerful family sues the registry staff for giving out their daughter(trafficking) or whatever they can come up with. |

FireUpNow: Bro I get you, but I must tell u one thing that its easier said than done.. Now let talk about sex...do u know that it is easier for woman to abstain trom sex more than men?? Not that men are dogs, no but this is the reason. Men are sensitive to sight, while women are sensitive to touch. When ur woman start hoarding her kpekus from you she has an advantage because she knows she can hardly get on by mere sighting, on the contrary, men can get hard unprecedentedly by just seeing a booty from a TV shows and from there konji start knocking How long can u endure not touching here in her sexy dress while both of u are home? I know what I am saying bro...but don't worry u can't understand it now but I am sure u will understand later sir |

Kobojunkie: Good for you! Not everyone thinks like you do and you have your own convictions why you chose the path you are on but you cannot cancel out what is basically considered moral to most people simply because you don’t subscribe to it. Except you won’t marry or you meet parents that have the same thinking like yours in this regard otherwise you’ll remain single if you insist adamantly on this |
Re: Court Marriage Without Paying Bride Price by otomatic(m): 7:28pm On Nov 20, 2023 |
Kobojunkie: I will have to look for it, which may not be practicable as such things are under the care of the wifey. "Court Marriage" is in a registry not a court per se. It can only be dissolved via divorce processes in a high court. And I'm sharing my experience not theory. So I cannot be deceiving myself about a process I underwent. |
Re: Court Marriage Without Paying Bride Price by Kobojunkie: 7:30pm On Nov 20, 2023 |
otomatic:The way una dey condescend towards women... ehn! So, in your head, an adult woman is the property of her parents, and consent is required from them hence the reason why you had to write this Letter of consent in your case and the case of your sister? 2. Clearly, Ignorance is to blame for you feeling you needed to write a letter of consent when you got married and for your adult sister too. You didn't realize that consent is only required when an underage individual is to enter into marriage. The registry does not provide cover. Rather, what it provides is legality to the decision made by two consenting adults. 3. I was right after all! This is all of ignorance on your part. |

Re: Court Marriage Without Paying Bride Price by Kobojunkie: 7:35pm On Nov 20, 2023 |
otomatic:Your supposed experience is marred by what is likely ignorance of the law in Nigeria though. What is referred to as court marriage is the registration of marriage with the courts. You wrote letters of consent because you were not aware of the fact that a letter of consent is only required in the case that at least one of the partners in the marriage is underage. The Law hasn't changed much in many decades and it is available online for all who would like to learn to educate themselves. |

immortalcrown: This is not true. Nothing concerns court and bride price payment. I did court way before the traditional marriage. Nothing of such was mentioned in court. |
Re: Court Marriage Without Paying Bride Price by otomatic(m): 7:41pm On Nov 20, 2023 |
Kobojunkie: It's okay. An adult woman is not the property of her parents yet the groom will be given a list to fulfil during marriage, else they are not married but cohabiting. I don't condescend on women, but facts are facts. Look, everyone who passed through that process in that registry fulfilled the same requirements. These requirements were not tailored to specific individuals. And you must fulfil them for your application to be accepted except maybe you are not interested in being married there. I hope you know that underage marriage is not permissible in the south. Even registry cannot cover that. |
Re: Court Marriage Without Paying Bride Price by luckyz4rea(m): 7:44pm On Nov 20, 2023 |
Kobojunkie: You probably thought you are better off and maybe expected I’ll applaud you for it. Everyone is free to believe what they would. I will pay bride price and if I’m told not to I will not insist. I can decide to take and not take. Follow your convictions but don’t discredit others’ by insisting on opinion imposition. 80% of parents will take bride price. Those not taking understand why they don’t and you can’t do anything about that. so just ignore them and live your convictions. |

Kobojunkie:Who is saying it should be free? I have seen weddings done on normal service days with bride and groom wearing just their normal Sunday wears. No bridal train or all of that sh*t. Just blessing of the marriage and light refreshments. Case closed. |
