As a teacher, I was teaching in the class after some repetition on a particular topic I bit my tongue. In the end, the students still got zero. So I cane a female student and the next day, the father threatened me with police and beating from togues. I laughed and answered him he wouldn't dare it. Then he told me he fed me and whatever..... Then I resigned straight. 2 days later, I saw many parents, principal and students at my door begging me to come back. You know what, a chief of the land sent a message then I knew I was more than what my idiot parents called me. You know what, the student was expelled and...

Teachers are meagre to some parents but they know me, I take no rubbish.,

Abeg carry me join body πŸ‘…

Am a government school teacher and all what u said negativity about teaching doesn't exempt us too ...

The government school salaries too are nothing to write home about and if u see their retirees that have worked for 35years u will blame urself why u accept the appointment letter from onset..

May God help me looking for a way to opt-out anytime soon 😒

Monaboo:
Very soon, parents will end up teaching their kids at home by themselves because the well educated teachers are leaving the profession.

Why? Poor Renumeration. It's only in Nigeria that Secondary School teachers are paid N30K per month.

How do u want someone to survive on such a salary. School Owners will be paying such salary and be thinking they are doing you a favour.

I started teaching in 2009 with SSCE. I actually love teaching. Teaching is my calling. I started doing Students Broadsheet when I was just 8yrs old. I went to the University and bagged a B.Sc in Geography and Planning.

I was teaching Geography in a Private Secondary School in Lagos. Woke up one morning and said goodbye to teaching in Nigeria.

Teachers are not paid well. They are not treated well. School Owners use teachers anyhow. I used to teach the whole school. I taught Jss1 to JSS3 Agricultural Science and SS1 to SS3 Geography. You will write lesson note for all the classes and be tired. You will enter class and copy note on the blackboard till your whole hands pain you. You will shout on top of ur voice teaching till u have headache. Principal will still shout on you in presence on students. I suffered. All on top of rubbish salary wey no reach N25K.

People say "Teaching Is A Calling". I laugh grin

Becos it is calling that will pay the bills abi? angry

Even children now do not want to end up as teachers. Even u reading this would not want ur child to end up as a teacher in Nigeria.

Now am not talking about Government school teachers o. Atleast those ones still dey see money.

Some Private school teachers earn as low as 20K per month in Nigeria. Graduates o. In this Buhari-Tinubu Guinness World Record Regime.
My neighbor now is complaining cos her child keeps failing JAMB. She can't pass Chemistry. Why? The school changes teachers every session which is affecting her. The last one did not teach some chemistry topics to the students which came out in JAMB this year.

Mama dey vex. She dey blame the Teacher. I told her to calm down. I asked her does she know how much the school pays the Chemistry Teacher? She said No. I laughed.

You can never be motivated to do ur best when u are not well paid. I told her to hold the School responsible for her daughter's downfall not the teacher.

Teaching is one of the hardest professions in the world because we are the Mother of all professions.

I'm just looking for money now to do my International Passport. Once I get it by God's grace, I don leave Nigeria for una.

Teaching isn't a bad profession.

As it's the case with things that are wrong with Nigeria, that's a pointer to poor leadership, institutional breakdown and poor management of our resources.
In a structured economy, resources would be well managed to compensate teachers duly.
Nigeria is rich. Maybe not now, but, Nigeria has had its good share of oil wealth through the years.

What became of it? Everything is politicized and channeled towards political brigandage.

Show me other countries where teachers earn peanuts and I will show you it's African leadership or a directionless one.

It's all a function of leadership.

Glad I stood by my decision

HellVictorinho6:
Thats why itz normal 4 teachers to be attacked 4 every error or failure or problem of the students.

They earn less than everyone else.

They have no right to complain about anything they are asked to do.

Either they stay or they quit.

They are also expected to solve problems that are hereditary.

They are expected to provide answers to questions even when those questions are not expected to come from them.

Employing meaningless terms in a sentence under the guise of poetic license may weaken the intended effect and cloud the communication.

Insisting on "Mucher" with poetic license is like playing a musical note out of tune and defending it as artistic flair. While creative freedom is embraced, maintaining coherence is pivotal to convey a message that resonates. grin

I disagree.
Teaching is not a shitty profession or a poverty alleviation setup. It's all in your mind. Many people Teaching today are not professional teachers. They are only side hustling while waiting for a "Breakthrough " in their lives.
I became a professional teacher in 2017, I bet you, that was the best decision of my life.
I am proud of what I do. I have friends (from Nigeria) who have gotten international Teaching contracts in countries like UK, China, Mexico and are earning atleast $4000 per month with Accommodation, 2 way air ticket and health insurance. Let me stop here. A little advice for you. You can choose to be the best in any chosen career. That was the promise I made to myself back then in 2017.
