Why must you be negative all the time, how do you intend to succeed with a negative mindset? This is how you go about destroying our image? Are we known for just crime?? Based on the bold, seek out other black Africans. It depends on where you are based. That is my aim - Kenya, Tanzania, Namibia, Botswana, South Africa, Ghana, Gabon, etc. Even if na Suriname or black from Ecuador, but she must be black. To be fair, some of our men have spoilt our image by marrying for papers. That hurts and humans tend to remember bad deeds more than good. So come clean.

I wrote about the bolded in the link below two years ago.

https://www.nairaland.com/6821682/experience-nigerian-ladies-west/2#107097872

In truth, there is a subset of women who are playing it safe and won't entangle with a new immigrant, because, unlike men, women's mistakes are fatal, and might not be corrected (eg being older and a single mom in debt because a wicked man used you). That's a recipe for permanent singledom.

So I don't blame such women who just avoid new immigrants or men whom they think havent reached a particular level since it's unlikely these men are looking for someone to use.

The heart of (wo)man is wicked, and it's always advisable to play safe, rather than sorry.

Most importantly, the relational dynamic between someone who has something (let's call her Mary), and the other person who doesn't have much (let's call him John), is that Mary has the responsibility to give out more.

Since Mary and John both understand that John doesn't have, Mary will keep helping John, giving him, in the hope that if John is in her shoes, he will do the same.

In such an unequal dynamic, it is hard for Mary to know John's true intent, since it's in Johns's interest to be on his best behavior and keep playing along. The virtue of John has not and cannot be tested in these circumstances.

It is the same dynamic with men who just sponsor girls in uni, and are heartbroken later on because such an unequal dynamic only favors the person that has nothing.

When the virtue of John's will is put to the test, is when he has leveled up and doesn't need Mary anymore. This is a risky game the average woman will not take, and women by default, know these dynamics very well. Women are far socially smarter than the average man.

I am not in the diaspora but I stumbled on a thread where someone made a sensible comment about this same issue.

They said something to the effect of everyone being too smart because of their papers/stay, nobody wants to compromise or make sacrifices, for the sake of an authentic relationship because too much sense is worrying all of you there.Na una know wetin dey worry all of you sha!

From my observations, there's a tendency in most of you japarians to gravitate towards self conceit and a vain superiority complex, where you start to think you're better than other Nigerians because;

1. You've lived in obodo for XYZ number of years or you have papers, so even new immigrant Nigerians are like an affront to you guys (meaning their very presence in your host country is like an offence)

2. You think with your papers you have finally arrived what can any Nigerian offer you again. But your papers alone don't provide healthy social interactions, good friendships or companionship, laughter and fun moments with others.

I see that superiority complex even here on NL with folks who haven't lived overseas for 2 years, I smile and shake my head, thinking to myself, poverty is really not a good thing. When you grow up privileged very little about the white man trips you to a point where you start to insult or look down on your country and fellow country men. Because you grow up knowing what your own people are made of and capable of. It's not so much about privilege alone, but having a healthy dose and sense of self worth, self esteem and self love.

My friend engaged an asian cabbie in conversation in the UK, while riding in his car. The cabbie told her it is very disappointing to see the way we Africans/Nigerians in particular behave overseas. He said we are quick to throw away our cultural values to embrace western ones, we are the ones who are quick to talk back to parents and disrespect them (that was an incident he witnessed in his cab with a Nigerian family)

Whereas he sees Indians, Chinese and some Asians hold onto their cultural values and practices, maintaining the family unit, and refusing to let the west negatively influence them. I think the cabbie's experience and narrative, may help you understand why you are having a hard time finding a Nigerian date.

you have not lied in your write up. However, there is something you are missing.
This is not just a Japarians or Nigerians living abroad thing, it is generally a Nigerian thing that is more amplified as Nigerians feel a perceived sense of "well-to do-ness".

I used to be very simple and naive as to think along the lines of what you just shared until I met with so many unfortunate incident with some hopeless poor Nigerian that showed me their true colors.

Most Nigerian are wired to be arrogant. they only have not displayed it because they dont have the opportunity.

God forbid you find yourself at the mercy of a poor wretched Nigerian and you will understand that rich or poor, most Nigerians are not just ok.

how many you wan count, you will help someone, and as soon as they feel they can stand on thier feet , gbam, they will bite you.

I know of a lady in the US that married a Guy from Nigeria only for the guy to get paper and abandoned her.

heck, its not even a gender thing because na same for men and women.

so people behaving like that is simply what we call "self preservation" with a generous dose of arrogance.

dont fret it bro, its a Nigerian thing and I am not excluded.

I have tried to date a few any they are often quick to assume i am after them for their papers while i just prefer my own, someone who understands my culture and where i have come from. Even when i try to date the ones that don't have paper, regular work visa holders like me. They seem to want to be with the guys that have papers.

Also, when i am old, i would like to return to Nigeria. Marrying outside would make that transition very difficult.

I study other races, Immigrant groups from India and Asia. they work together well, and don't have these difficulty.

They are also looking for guys with papers. This paper issue has changed the dynamics.

I dont even mind dating someone without papers because I'm on a pathway to getting my papers already.
if you want peace of mind, avoid imported Nigeria girls, whether they came here at a young age or just immigrated. That Naija girl mindset will still be here. I saw one at Walmart, just finished college, came here at a younger age, same tribe. We exchanged numbers. Then we agreed to see. She asked me where are we meeting, I said a resto or bar. Then she say, " I don't take alcohol " In my mind,I said, "see this one" . You haven't even gotten to the bar or restaurant to know whether you will be offered alcohol or not. Her mind was to hear, you can get maybe burger, chicken etc. I replied and said, :" No problem, we will take coffee " Her voice tone lowered and I knew she was disappointed. When I later called her , Her phone said: "Call forwarded." So, going on a date is eating free food for them. Ignore them if you can, and find other better africans or races. Only very few are different. Don't waste your time.

I totally agree with you on this. It's just a Nigerian thing. We Nigerians are self centred. It's a trait that is in bred in us. Poverty also doesn't help. Everyone is looking for "what's in it for me". This mind set is what has set Nigeria back. This trait follows us everywhere we go. We don't like our own, we don't value our own. We don't believe in our own. We like to copy others just so that you can show your fellow Nigerians that "you have arrived". It's sad. Nigerians need what they call "cognitive reconditioning" because our mindset is to terrible.

People who ran overseas should marry overseas people. Simple.
If you want to marry a Nigerian, there are millions of Nigerians here in Nigeria. Marry one and carry overseas instead of complaining.
You cannot be outside Nigeria and still be expecting 100% Nigerian previlages again.
-
That's how some will insist on eating eba and soup overseas. Nigeria food becomes an expensive delicacy once you leave the shores of Nigeria. Eat the food of the country you find yourself and marry the women of the country there as well.
Problem of alot of immigrants is the 8th characteristics of Living thing: Adaptability. People don't want to adapt or relate. And again, the more you do nothing about your relationship status, the lonelier you become. Winter don show now.

Our women in Canada? shocked

The Gods forbid! I never liked that mentality, even in Nigeria. I hate it. Fine, I will play my part as a man, but paying a woman I am dating monthly allowance? Then, hookup is better. The analysis has been conducted, and it was found that it is cheaper/more affordable doing hookup than to enter a relationship. With such a thought process, stick to hookup or go celibate.

It is maddening. No wonder other African men flee. I cannot blame them. You see why I question the financial benefits a man derives from marriage. I am yet to see one.
There's no love in Naija ladies abroad and there's also no gain. Find a wife wherever you find peace of mind!

LOL. Even in the abroad, It is prevalent. The reality of this conversation is, for most of our women, you will have to pay that monthly allowance. It usually does not come in form of monthly allowance but it comes in form of notification of problems. As a guy, you will be told monthly of a woman's problems, and you will have the option of selecting from the list of problems offered to you. Relationships in Nigeria are used to solve problems, and for the record, surprisingly I am not against the line of thought at all. Nigeria has seeded the germ of entitlement in every sector, beginning with our parents lifestyle, civil service, government employees, and private organisations, and it has filtered down to women. We are reaping the seeds we have sown. Once a lady is beautiful, she puts an heavy price on herself. Consider this: a recent dude who is graduate at 25 years old doing an internship at any of the Big 4 will approach a lady of 23 years old; do you think he will be able to maintain any relationships with her on his Internship salary? NO is the answer. It means you have to be littered with cash to be able to land any beautiful lady at all. Emphasis on beautiful because If a woman is ugly, she would go with any poor dude that comes around. So anytime you hear that a woman suffered with a man, ask him to show you the picture of that woman, therein lies your answer.

In terms of financial benefit men derive, the answer is also NO. The benefit is not Finance but in offspring & family unit you have. You're simply paying with cash & women are paying with their bodies (ability to carry babies in the marriage & child care). Trade by provision & trade by nurturing. At the end, no matter how intelligent we become, we will pay that monthly allowance [either directly or indirectly].

Nigerian ladies are the most undesirable on earth.
Nigerian ladies are everything bad
Marriage doesn't benefit men

...according to you people on this space.

Why are you looking for the same Nigerian ladies,if you must even marry at all.

What happened to #TeamForeignGirls?

If I were single when I relocated,I would have absolutely nothing to do with Nigerian men.

Thank you for your perspective. I have always known that a major benefit of marriage is the ability to raise a family within a two-parent household. That formation is undefeated anywhere in the world. It is just I have trained myself to always consider the financial benefits in decisions I make.

At the bold, the issue we have now is when there is a rise in women behaving like men, aka females with masculine traits. Paying to marry a man in a woman's body does not make sense.

Leave Nigerian single women abroad alone , most of them are miserable, rude, disrespectful , have high expectations, too much ego, controlling, never submissive and carry the same attitude from Nigeria. Out of 100 atleast 98 have the characteristics above. This is why at 40 plus close to menopause they still wait for a miracle hubby to sweep them off their feet . Be at peace with yourself and try dating other race or bring someone from nigeria if you are looking for love without much headache.

You don't have evidence to back up your claim of being honest and also have only honest friends. But there are clear evidence both home and abroad to show that most people going abroad from Nigeria do unspeakable things to make huge wealth within 6 to one year. For a honest to make such money it will take a little longer not six months.

Compare the number Nigerian in China and Indian

Compare the exchange rate between these countries with our Naira..

I have been abroad for a while now and i am curious to know why some of our ladies decline dating or marrying fellow Nigerians in the diaspora.

Should i give up on being with a Nigerian or keep trying ?

Regards.

My brother the Lord help you

All your doctors, engineers, scientists, professors and businessmen are the ones. The people you need to run a functioning society are running off while you console yourself with banga soup and traditional dances. Even your musicians don't want to perform in Nigeria anymore. grin

There's no difference between you and the people that run NTA the country is on fire and you're chasing shadows.

Oh well, I'd just drop this here and move on.

I don't agree that the average Nigerian woman do not understand love or have feelings.

Nigerian women infact love HARD.

Maybe you've not experienced this before? Or whatever.

Bye.

Not all Nigerian women

You don't have evidence to back up your claim of being honest and also have only honest friends. But there are clear evidence both home and abroad to show that most people going abroad from Nigeria do unspeakable things to make huge wealth within 6 to one year. For a honest to make such money it will take a little longer not six months.

Give one evidence that confirms what you said and I’ll deactivate my account.

Let’s talk like smart people here.

Give an estimate of people that migrate out of the country to the countries you mention. For instance, there are like over 500,000 Nigerians in US, then how many of them are into crime or have been reported prosecuted? If you say 95%, then that means like 475,000 of them are into crime.

So give an evidence of something like this, provide the country, how many Nigerians are there and the number of Nigerians reported doing crime.

I am waiting

may be it is your own household that is on fire, because from where I currently am, things are running smoothly.

You make general statements and call it facts, this is why Nigeria is better off without people like you. I suppose all the technocrats have ran away and there is nobody left to tar roads, dig borehole, build houses and the likes, right? Imagine how foolish the emboldened is.

This is why people like you are a cancer to this country. You use your fingers to make hasty generalization and embarrass yourself without knowing it, or caring to know.

I'm not surprised lazy ass people like you are the ones lamenting and complaining about the situation the country is in, while productive Nigerians are busy adding value to themselves and thus, the country.

Please where are you? Tell me the local government so I can know what the exact colour of your problem is.

Is the road you pass everyday world standard? Do you have running water in every household of your local government area? Is there even light right now as you're typing this? grin

The country is a rotting corpse where nothing works the cancer killed it long ago. There is nothing I will say about Nigeria that is a lie, if you don't like it cry.

Many hardworking people have died or gotten their work effort wiped away just by the stupidity of the masses. Go and listen to the son of the creator of Banana Island. This is how Nigeria treats honest and hard working people. This is the "culture" you're trying so hard to defend, a culture of greed and undercutting your fellow man.

You lots make me laugh. OP, the reason why Nigerian girls in the Diaspora are skeptical about dating a Nigerian man without papers is due to the past reputation of Nigerian men marrying women for papers, impregnating them and dumping them once they have their documents. The men, in most cases, have wives/girlfriends back home. Non-Nigerian women are more open about it because they are more open-minded and not aware of our brothers past exploits.

Now, the so-called "superiority complex" is not restricted to Nigerians in the diaspora but it started in Nigeria. Let me be blunt: Most Nigerians, bar core Northerners, are elitist, arrogant, criminally-minded and self-centered. Charity starts at home. Everyday, the average Nigerian tries to cheat their fellow Nigerian all in the name of being "smart". We love to carry labels and oppress each other. You have Island vs Mainland, Private Universities vs Public Universities, Universities vs Polytechnics, overseas students vs home students, First class vs every other class, PHD vs Masters etc. When you have this type of mindset, why won't you have the same problems overseas? I mean, in this very Nigeria, people judge you based on the way you dress, look, talk, the type of car you drive and the kind of family you come from. Your former President once asked a Nigerian girl in the UK "who is your father?". I will say no more.

As for those suggesting that picking a wife from Nigeria is better, please who are the Nigerian women without papers abroad that the OP was referring to?? Is it not the same Nigerian women from Nigeria? Are they not the same Nigerian women, born and bred in Nigeria who migrated abroad like the OP? All those Nigerian men killing their wives in the States, are they not the same women that were brought over from Nigeria? You lots really make me laugh.
