At the end, the UK is a capitalist society, with people paying taxes , and with enough investment coming in because people do not need to fear any issues.

Nigeria is not that prosperous because

1.We have bad government. I am not here to defend any government, and this point is clear.

2.The government controlls the prices of petrol, power and water. It also does not charge adequate tax, with a very low tax to gdp ratio as a result. This means that there isn't enough money to fix things...bad service results.

3.Also, Nigeria is not an active exporter of manufactured goods and services. We only export oil. We do not even set the price of the oil we export..and the government does not even try to diversify our economy. (Like controlling our mining sector for example...billions are lost yearly because government does not regulate the mining sector at all).

In fact no 2 and 3 show you how bad government impacts development in Nigeria.
