As i am typing like this, i am at work in Stockport, my shift is 7:00- 22:00pm which is 15hrs and the nature of the job is support work, just sitting down after morning personal care with just four (4) citizen and we are just 3 staff on duty.

Do you know how much today pay is? During the week, the pay is £10.90 and on Sunday it’s double pay in Stockport, now today pay is £21.80 per hour, now do your maths

15hours multiply by £21.80= £327 for today. Please convert this to Nigeria and how much is that in naira? Keep deceiving yourself with your poor idea.

I earn above £2500 monthly and my shared rent monthly is just £320 with bills. Just keep deceiving yourself

For proof, i have attached one of my old payslip to show per rate so you won’t think I’m just bragging with lies. Now i worked yesterday long day, worked today and I’m still working tomorrow…

Note: my permanent job pay 14:80 per hr so wise up
Hello sir and please sir, any little assistance no matter how small from u will be highly appreciated by me.

What costs exactly?! Lol. Is it fuel? It’s just as expensive.

Is it light? I can categorically tell you that you pay more here because you pay in several occasions and don’t even see it.

Is it water? You genuinely think it’s cheaper to dig a borehole than pay for water running from the government?

Or is it security? Or rent? Rent in Nigerian cities are just as expensive as any major city in the world.

So what exactly makes life cheaper? Because you can cut corners once in a while? Lol.

You do know those corners are why our society is like this? Nations that don’t cut corners have a working system to show for it.

So once again; what makes life cheaper here?
Many Nairalanders are indeed battling with comprehensive issue, reason I hardly reply some people here.

Read the last paragraph in my previous post, I said "it is cheaper for those who has tasted both side but expensive for those living and earning in Nigeria". You don't expect someone who pays about $1000 per month for apartment in US not to see 1m apartment per annum in Nigeria as cheap. For instance, if you want to live in a decent apartment in New York, rent alone will chop off about 40% of your income per month. Other utility bills may chop off another 40% if care is not taking.

Whereas in Nigeria, if you don't live pass tour level, you can comfortably pay your rent with 3 months salary at most, which is about 25%. But that doesn't mean Nigeria is easy for low income earners, because alot of people in this category cannot live a decent life like those earning minimum wage abroad, which I had clearly stated in the post you quoted.

THIS DEFENCE MECHNISM IS FROM THE PIT OF HELL, THE CHEAPEST SLIZE BREAD YOU CAN GET NOW IS N1,200. IF YOU ARE TO MEASURE IT, BY THE LAME WAY YOU JUST DID, I CAN ASSURE YOU THAT AN AVERAGE NIGERIA WILL HAVE TO WORK HIS/HER ASS OUT TO MAKE N12,000 IN A DAY, IF WE ARE TO TRUELY CALCALCULATE THOSE ITEMS WITH THE CURRENT PRICE REALITY YOU WILL DISCOVER THAT THE WHOLE N12,000 CANT BUY ALL THOSE THINGS, CURRENTLY A LIVE CHICKEN GOES FOR N10,000 - N15,000.

THATS JUST FOR AN HOUR WORK, MEANING THAT THE FELLOW CAN STILL WORK FOR AT LEAST 2 -3 MORE HOURS IN A DAY. EITHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT, LIFE IS STILL FAR BETTER THERE THAN HERE.
Re: Cost Of Living In Nigeria Is Cheaper Than UK Or US by HighTable(m): 11:14am On Dec 04, 2023
Solid calculations, though food cost is exaggerated. The thing people have several core reasons they travelled out, for some depression of joblessness, they will be happy that they see things doing, for some majorly to gather money they will work their ass out, link up like mad and save like crazy. For some it's for good amenities and the UK status - to enjoy fast internet and electricity, it will boost their online productivity and creativity.
If you travelled out only because of food, you have definitely wasted your money, you could buy land and have your own farm plus poultry farming and you will be smiling while others are crying grin
In Nigeria today, it seems they want to destroy the middle class absolutely, so it's either you're living in lekki having a big business in computer village or elsewhere or you're living in less developed areas having a decent farm and selling your produce at exorbitant prices.
The mass migration to UK for example targeted mostly middleclass I think, so all in all, if you know what you want, see it and go for it.

If our bobo londoner works for the standard 8 hours per day and earning £10 per hour and he works for 5 days a week; he would have earned = £10 x 8 hours = £80/ day x 5 days/week = £400/week x 4 weeks = £1,600 per month. With this earning bobo londoner is taking nothing home at month end and cannot afford to buy that kind of £10 food every day if he does he might be in debt see why:

Now for bobo pays average of £1,480 for house rent monthly and pays average of £140 for transportation to work. That's £1,480 + £140 = £1,600 per month ONLYgrin. If bobo londoner tries to buy his £10 food everyday as man must wak that's £10 x 30 days = £300 per month.

Therefore, bobo londoner must werk grin on Saturdays to survive that's £80 x 6 days × 4 weeks = £1,920 - £1,480 - £140 - £300 = £0.00 per month grin

Dont mind them, people that have never left Nigeria but making claiming's on things they know nothing about. The most important reason to live and work outside Nigeria is because of the favorable exchange rate of foreign currencies against the Naira. You work out there and send whatever you make back home, and it becomes BIG money, then you can execute various projects and oppress the ones back home. But the truth remains that the cost of living in Nigeria is still one of the lowest anywhere in the world, and am not even speaking of living in Lagos, Abuja or PH. I am speaking of places like Ibadan, Enugu or Kaduna.

Now when it gets to the quality of the food been consumed, you would get healthier food back in Nigeria, not the junk that western foods are made of. Yes, Nigeria does that it challenges and one of which is that almost useless currency, the naira, which implies that the earning power of those that make naira reduce daily, which is a bitter reality. But that does not erase the fcat that the cost of living in Nigeria is way cheaper than most western nations.

That is not my message.

I was only trying to let you know how you can narrow down the average hourly wage in Nigeria.

People earn more than 1600 in UK and also people earn over 30k in Nigeria.
your hourly rate will be your accumulated salary at the end of the month

People who earn more than 1600 in the UK and people who earn more than 30k in Nigeria, will live according to their pay and standard of living in their respective countries

someone earning 5k pounds in the UK and someone earning 600k per month in Nigeria will have more disposable income and will live well compared to someone who earns 1600 pounds and 30k in their respective countries.. it is just common sense, that is why it makes no sense to compare different salaries in 2 different countries.

The more the higher standard of living, the more employers will pay to meet up with the high standard of living

if city A is more expensive than city B, employers will pay more salaries to employees working in city A than in city B

Even if both employees in city A and B earn the same salary, the employee in City B will live a more better life than an employee in city A because city B is cheap

The same happens if you compare Uk and US

salaries in the US are more higher than salaries in the UK for the same role. so because of living cost, employers in the US pay more than employers in the UK.

Lol you can't just analyze the amount spent on food in isolation. It'd be irrational and illogical to do that. You have to place it side by side with how much they earn! Someone who earns over #3million naira a month as in the UK would see #180k a month food as a piece of cake while someone who earns #250-300k per month like in your country Nigeria would see such #180k spending on food as outrageous. Please not everyone has that poor mentality like most Nigerians. In the US I resided, my accomodation cost per month was about $1300 which is like over #1.3million per month for accomodation alone. But I never felt this because I earned way above $8k per month. So please get your analysis right.

Your leaders are playing kalo-kalo with your destiny, you are on Nairaland claiming it is better in Nigeria than UK and US.

Have you heard of a working person in the UK or USA begging someone in Nigeria for money to pay bills?

Do you know how many Nigerians abroad no longer pick up calls from people in Nigeria (supposedly working) because they cannot make ends meet?

Diaspora remittance to Nigeria from these people living "hard" lives abroad with no spare income is $22bn in 2022, a key source of forex keeping Nigeria's heamorraging economy alive.

An hourly based payment does not mean you will be paid per hour, it means that you will be paid for the number of hours you work at the end of the month. that is why in some jobs they clock in and out so that the total number of hours you worked can be calculated and you will be paid according to the total number of hours you worked. work per hours jobs are called time jobs and are mostly for lower paid jobs.

Most high paid job all over the world are salaried.

UK govt will not tax the first £1,047.50 because that is your tax-free allowance and would only tax the balance of £552.50.

For that £552.50 the income tax will be £110.35 while the National Insurance will be £66.3, it then means the total tax to pay is £176.65
