This remind me of a friend. who told me how a co-worker in their company died 2 days ago, just within 2 days, the company HR was busy cleaning out her office & had already employed and reposted another person in her position.

Yes is right cos businesses have to continue in absent of the living, so the dead were replaced in less than 48 hours

This person has given her all for this company, but her office position was replaced within just 2 days, while her home/family grief

Meanwhile, her family is still grieving the loss, she was a young wife and mother of two. NOW ASK ME HOW IS THE FAMILY GOING TO REPLACE HER

This is a reminder that you and I are much replaceable in other places, as well as other people's lives but not replaceable within our family system

I think you are seeing the OP's post from a different perspective, which I think is wrong. Drive safely and responsibly doesn't mean driving is bad or the car is bad.

Don't be emotional about this, life goes on!

If where you buy food closes, won't you find another buka to buy food within a minute?

The lesson there is that while you work, invest in yourself and family, start a side business, buy landed properties and build your own house.

Don't wait till tomorrow to start getting all these above

The aim of the post is to encourage work - life balance. Nobody is indispensable so while you work,try and spend quality time with your family. Be committed to your job and sustaining your source of income without neglecting other areas of life. Some people running personal business do not also have the work life balance. Some make all the money but never creates time to enjoy it.

However nothing is certain in life talkless of death. If you die, even your family will eventually move on ,no matter how valuable you think you are. Take care of yourself.

I rarely blame the companies. I put the most blame on the workers, who go to extreme length to please the company, knowing they wont reciprocate when it's needed the most.

This remind me of one stupid Oga in my office that carry work for head like say no any other person can handle the job except him, even the yearly leave the don't go thinking that the nobody like him, the year management forced him to go on leave, was the year they send him his sack latter on his leave .

Everybody Is replaceable. He failed to realise that.

"If you get hurt or killed (God forbid), the chopper that is coming to carry you is also coming with your replacement."

Na so.

Nigerian corporate office values is nothing to be proud about or carry as achievement.
Many have died of stroke, heart attack and stress on their desks.
Many have back-bited and stabbed potential friends in the back due to office politics.

In the end, you'll leave that job and realize that the so-called office family is a FUGAZY.

Build your own thing...even if na kiosk. That job isn't forever.

Once worked in a company that has zero regard for the welfare of their employees.
7 employees died on the job across the country within 18 month. The management didn't even bury the dead as it should be. They simply got a lawyer waiting for the family incase they wanna do court case on the circumstances surrounding the death. Very horrible company then.

Reminds of one hotel I used to lodge in Lagos. The owner of the hotel is from Anambra. He beats up his staff and there's a lawyer ready if any of the staff decides to take legal action against him.

Only the wise will take note of this.

A good reason I always resigned every 2 years of employment in those days. Naija employers are mostly slave drivers. I never gave a damn. They'd be shedding crocodile tears each time I was summoned in a mgt meeting and be asking me to tell them why I was leaving and explain any challenges faced, which must have influenced my decision so they could improve on it and make me change my mind.

Solid 7 armed gangs came to my apartment on the eve of sallah. They took away the brand new tear rubber car which my employer bought for me back then.

Instead of my MD to first ask after my family and their safety during the invasion, he was busy asking me where and where did I stop on my way home from work that night and whether I informed the police immediately after they took the car away. Thank God, the car was found somewhere in Ogun state, parked, 2 days later. There was a tracker on it so the tracking company monitored and stopped it safely.

About a month later, I tendered my resignation. My MD knelt down, begging me to stay. By the time I explained, he was sober. Most Nigerian employers don't see their employees as part of their success stories rather, they feel they're doing their staff a favour by employing and paying them salary. Once the unexpected happen, they replace them immediately.

I think it has to do with how much emotional intelligence the folks in charge have opened up themselves to. Ideally, a much older folk in charge should seem very balanced in decision making...due to life experiences they have had.

Others may see the person as too soft but when you have seen so much in life, you will tend to go softly on others especially when you are a deep thinker...you could realize that the person couldn't have responded better because of the situation at hand.

2 Days?

A Colleague was replaced same day.

She was told that there was nobody to Relief her when she complained about Fatigue and needed a Casual Leave to attend to her Health by her Supervisor.

When News came in that she passed on at one Health facility. Someone was asked to go to her Branch.

Vault Spare keys were sent in from Head Office.

Everything just continued.

Such a lovely Lady.

You made absolutely no point , your work isn't competing with your family for your attention or your love. Your work has specific roles for you and also work hours and guidelines for you , if it is going to affect your family dynamics then don't take it , I have yet to see a company which will force you to work for them. This particular message shared might make some people less productive at work and create some sort of enmity with their work. Even your Bible tells you to take care of/attend to business before family

I resume work one week after my wedding but my Director rebuked me. He said boy nobody is indispensible. That if he dies now another person will step up in acting capacity the same minutes and in full capacity after 24 hour's.

The truth remains that people will forget one sooner than you can ever thought once one exits (including those family members). The fact that one is replaced in workplace doesn't mean one is forgotten. It just means, work has to go on.

My position is, do your best everywhere (family or work).

Work should not be seen as being in competition with family. They serve different purposes and requires our utmost commitment. Cheers.
