Solarge signs contract for solar panel production in Nigeria

Infrastructure Corporation of Nigeria (InfraCorp) has signed a contract with African Green Infrastructure Investment Bank (AfGIIB) and Solarge to build a lightweight solar panel factory in Africa.

The Dutch company Solarge, which produces its lightweight solar panels in Weert, previously announced that it saw opportunities to export the concept of its factory.

"
This partnership represents a pivotal moment in aligning our goals with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's vision for local manufacturing capabilities that drive employment, accelerate electrification, and foster economic growth," InfraCorp said of the Memorandum of Understanding. "And all this while Nigeria is being led towards decarbonisation in line with its energy transition commitments."

"We are proud and honoured to have signed a Memorandum of Understanding with InfraCorp and the African Green Infrastructure Investment Bank on behalf of Solarge at the UN climate summit COP 28 for large-scale production of our lightweight solar panels in Nigeria," said Gerard de Leede, chief technology officer of Solarge. "Our joint efforts will contribute to the realization of a sustainable and resilient energy future for the country."

Local

The plant will produce lightweight solar panels with an ultra-low carbon footprint, making Nigeria "a global leader in sustainable local manufacturing and critical infrastructure," according to InfraCorp.

The initiative for the plant aligns closely with InfraCorp's commitment to sustainable development and growth of the economy, striving to provide climate-resilient infrastructure for a cleaner and greener Nigeria.

It's a good one and we pray we get there one day.

Hating your nation because your preferred candidate didn't win is like you refusing to take your medication because your preferred doctor didn't prescribe the drugs - you're harming yourself.

No matter who's there, if they succeed, we all succeed and if they don't, we all suffer for it. Why not support them and wish Nigeria well as it's the only country that can win and we all win.

If only your candidate won free and fair and also no one is wishing their country bad, a thief doesn't steal your property to use it for your good, so we are only saying the truth about Tinubu and his entire government, it is not hatred.....

Who are the people advising our leaders? They are always going the wrong direction. How many solar panels do the Netherlands produce? They don’t even produce enough solar panels for their country. China is the world leader in solar panel production. They account for about 78% of the world’s output. If you need solar power and don’t go to China, you are just joking or playing politics.

Same mistake going to Germany (Siemens Energy) for power. These people can’t build all these infrastructure anymore, especially outside their continent and not in places as unstable as Nigeria. The project will still be in the feasibility stage for the next 4 years as it was in the past. If you are serious about power infrastructure, you go to China. For example, China has added more energy to its national grid in the last 4 years than the entire German installed energy capacity since it inception.

As they say in my circle, follow who know road.

Is a good news that will take time to build, 2 to 4 years.

When have the other side not acted selfish.

They are systematically using Nigeria's resources as collateral, but the region and neighborhood where the resources are coming from, are not in the development locations.

At least, let them put these in the middle belt.

Netherlands 🇳🇱 in Nigeria 🇳🇬 @NLinNigeria

If after establishment and solar panels cost more than 20k no matter the capacity, then it has no serious significant impact. PV cells are bought at a low price but way bills and settling of customs plus other essential things triple the price.

Signature of intent. It doesn't mean anything.

How much are they investing? Where are the feasibility studies, the location of raw materials, man the power capabilities of the locals?

Nigeria should know when they are played.

No resources like that there, but am saying, even knowing that they don't have resources, let them put this one there.

Don't get it too twisted, they have resources, just that it is not easy to extract.
