I must commend your thinking. I am not so sure of the £23,000 annual earning. If it be correct then it cannot be more than 3 days a week. A job that earns you 23k annually on full time is not a good paying job. Any way, any job in the UK is better than a bank branch manager's job in Nigeria
Your lots are the reason why many have made grace mistakes in the quest to Japa!

Some people are doing far better than people in the UK!

UK is for people who are struggling in Nigeria and have lost hope COMPLETELY.

A bank manager in Nigeria, lives a far better life than all those changing diapers in UK.

No I'm not blind. How much is 700 dollars in naira compared to a manager's salary in Nigeria?

You obviously know nothing about banking in Nigeria if you are celebrating 700 dollars per month as good pay
how much are bank manager paid in naija

Comfort of air-conditioned office in a hell hole like Nigeria does not translate to more money! He far out-earn his colleagues in bank's air-conditioned offices across Nigeria.

Just got word from a friend about someone who made the move from being a bank manager in Nigeria to working as a skyscraper cleaner in the UK. 😕

Smart move or not?

Funny how 80% of those Japaa'ing as u guys term it in Nigeria are all yoruba people grin

On the other hand, this Bola mandate seems to be favouring the Igbos and every Igbo man is cashing out, spending money like water in the Bola Administration.

My question is: Does it mean this Administration is not favouring the yoruba clownish tribe?

Has Bola turned his back on his people?

How come the people that were supposed to be taught severe lessons are the head teachers now?

Questions wey no geti answer.
Wetin Igbo people come dey do for visa office?

Soft life to hard life.

I guess when he got there and saw the pile of bills staring him in the face he had no choice but to grab the next available job.

If you are gainfully employed in naija, you don't need to japa. Japa is for someone who has no hope of ever getting a job in Nigeria. He'll appreciate any kind of job he finds there.
Lol

Have you ever traveled outside before?

It's nonsensical to comment on japa if you've never seen outside.

I believe this Gerrard59 is not in Nigeria. I don't know. But he is fond of discouraging others. At least this is a first hand person who is living in the USA. This is not hearsay.

You are in Germany abi one country like that studying, being sponsored by your parents. I am referring to Gerartd59. But I have noticed, you have jumped on the anti-japa bandwagon ship.

You guys should get some sense abeg.
Please stop it. Oga Gerrard is a good man. He's actually one of the most grounded commentators here, full of thoughtful insight. Anyone can FEEL the man is genuine.

aycorporat:
Anytime I see "Good luck to Nigerians " I know say na this my oga dey talk.
Thanks for opening my eyes to see another side. I'm pained that I would have taken this decision 10 years ago just out of school.

Anyways, e never late
And Oga Gerrard tried to steal my trademark without dropping royalties or commission. Nigerians!!!! grin

It might get harder but it's NEVER too late. It can be done, it requires humility and a change of perspective and thinking holistically.

Again, I've told real stories of older Nigerians who migrated to the USA with very little wealth at over 50 years of age. Yes many have supportive children (my mother is one of them) but many also came here by themselves and are doing very well thank you. There's one old guy here that arrived only 5 years ago, his adult children in Nigeria now depend on him for sustenance.

I'm very happy I've persuaded at least 3 people NOT to migrate back to Nigeria. One thing I'm sure of though, whatever one believes...Nigeria is headed to a very bad place. The portents are there, they shouldn't be ignored.

Good Luck to all of us.

The effort being used by all and sundry to daily discourage people from traveling abroad should be channeled to more productive things like social values, patriotism and national orientation/reorientation. Is the quest for hard drugs, ritual killing, Biafra, and other vices currently ravaging our young people not more dangerous than travelling?
The earth is not balanced, people make it everywhere and people fail everywhere, white people inclusive. This narrative that you are going to fail abroad is becoming nauseating.

yimu if you know how silly you sound you will reboot your phone, there is no immigration requirement to treat anyone in the UK if you suddenly fall ill, If you are ill you get treated first then asked questions later. If you have an accident on the road ambulance come to your location administer stability and take you to A7E then they stabilize and treat youthly dont give a damn if you are documented or not.I have said it B4, you lot have been so wronged and robbed of your rights now the wrong is now the norm, its a shte living I tell yah. There is no limit to what the NHS cover even Hip replacement is done on the NHS even sex change is done on the NHS

Before opening your dirty mouth to judge ask yourself how much is being made in both businesses, im sure the cleaning would make x3 or x5 of bank manager in naija, a legit bank manager without runs probably makes 400 to 600 here...

The cleaner there i believe makes 50k yearly on the average with enough time for other jobs, na to work 5 years and retire...
STFU... You know nothing! An average bank manager earns from 1.5m to 6m a month. I work somewhere in Lagos and I am not a bank manager and I earn close to 900k....

The question you should be asking is how much does a bank manager earn in Nigeria?

If you must know, no bank in Nigeria pays their branch managers up to N1m. On an average, they earn between 500-600k. (That's about $600 not pounds o)

A skyscraper window cleaner in the UK earns about £23,000. With that amount, you can live comfortably in the UK.

Aside the risks involved in the job, I won't say he made a bad choice.
you Guys speak with so much authority. One will think you were the one that set the salary scale.

Human civilizations are not built on suits and ties but on hard grinding work... I personally derived a points from this write-up however, who no go no go know... Sometime japaing is not for your own benefits alone but your family who are going to gain the benefits of working society...

Since you've called me the ignorant one, why not tell me how much they earn?

You rush to say something and end up saying nothing. You should do your research and come back to reply me if any bank in Nigeria pays their BM up to N1m.
I don't need to do any research to know how much a BM who is probably a manager or an SM earns in a top Bank in Nigeria.
I'm not even a BO yet and I know how much I earn, yet you make bold to say a BM earns between 400k-600k.
In a bid to have an opinion, you ended up making an assertion that's way far from the truth.

That's not true.

I have seen a PHD holder who found himself in cleaning job abroad
Well such things are possible, but that is extremely rare and even so, it's definitely temporary. The least a PhD can do is to teach in a local school or college. They'd gladly employ such a person.

@Jewessgratitud3
Actually your comment is rubbish: full of false generalization - don-t be myopic. A lot of Nigerians cannot apply critical reasoning- see the amount of likes for such a myopic comment.

I Japa-d not because I could not get a job, but because I could not get one to pay me the money I wanted.

I was earning close to 1M in Nigeria. Due to a downturn the organization decided to lay off hundreds of staff.

I did a number of interviews and found that the scope to make this sort of money is slim in Nigeria. Given the Limited opportunities - not to mention the number of international firms leaving the country.

As grace, MY LORD and Protector, would have it I got a job over at least 4 x what i was earning in Nij. And everyday my money increases given the devaluation that is going on in Nigeria. Yes, and I make enough to save more than my monthly pay in Nigeria.

Apply critical reasoning, and don't be myopic.

Dey enjoy wetin you dey enjoy for Niaj.

Let me tell you.. You can’t come to America and immediately start with the job you were in in Nigeria. My first job in America was dishwashing. An older Nigerian who was working as a physiotherapist with the national sport ministry in Nigeria was my dishwashing coworker. We were washing dishes together on $9 per hour. This same person has traveled the world with Nigerian national team on different occasions.
There are professionals who relocated with job offers, so it's not a general rule that everyone from Nigeria must do a menial job.

That might be the experience of a lot of Nigerians, but certainly not all. Guys in tech and healthcare usually work directly so pls...

What I am doesn not matter. You said HMO is dead and just wanted to correct that impression that it's not dead.

HMO has paid medicals bills of more 700k for me at once. I didn't pay one kobo. And that is just one instance

Let's stop making exergerated statements to paint the country's situation worse than it is
My brother you don't need to answer so many of them here, they certainly have not worked in a well organized environment here in Nigeria, reason why some of them just write rubbish here all in a bid to appear to have opinions.
Imagine one up there saying a BM earns between 400k-600k/monthly.
