I don't get why a lot of users feel they are best placed to critique the site when they don't have information of what goes on inside. This bland outdated look has been the sites selling point. We don't need those fancy Javascript laden frameworks that will use up loads of data and take 2mins for the page to load.
If you look at this site and how it has not changed over many years, you will know it is not about selling point but lack of an innovative mind and a good team behind him.
I am not saying he should complicate the site. There are a lot of innovative features he could add without making it heavy. Verifications, comment section better structured, individual profile beautification like followership etc
The site is not big on videos, so there's nothing about wasting loads of data
Even then, twitter is big on videos and a lot of other features, yet they have tens of millions of users. The people that will love the site more will be more than those here now put together.

What value would verification add? Do more successful forums like reddit have verification? And what value add to the business would "individual profile beautification" bring? Understand that a business will only make changes if it brings quantifiable revenue.

Seun, I have some advice for you. I know you can read this, and I want you to know that I care about you, bro. If you check my profile, you'll see that I've been a member since around 2008. I urge you to consider selling Nairaland to an active person or a young individual who can become a shareholder. If you don't take this step, Nairaland, which is a source of pride for Africa, might face failure.

You are too slow.

You are too dull.

You are too stagnant.

The world has moved forward, and now there are millions of people like you.

Meanwhile, nobody knows what you look like in person, and you don't grant any interviews or interact with your peers. Are you even real?
Hahahaha many ppl are like him but you wouldn't know.

Yes they do, Reddit for example, you are restricted from certian activities based on your registeration date and reputation. In fact certain subs can limit you based on other criterias. Verification is not just at time of registeration but an on-going process.

The single most effective solution for Nairaland is to tie each account to a verified phone number and an I.P. address, it is fairly simple to do and will reduce the spammers and abusers down to an acceptable level.

Good to be back on track.
But when fully back ,the tag for muslims post asking are you a muslim before one can comment should be removed, if muslims want to post their opinions and will not want others to comment they should create their on version not open to everyone but to fellow muslims faithful only .
I want to believe that NAIRALAND.COM is not for muslims and for muslims only .

As far as I know, there are no such restrictions on reddit as a forum. Individual subredds may place a limitation of age of account being like 20 days or having say 100 karma. But bots get around that pretty easily. That's why you have karma farms there. That doesn't solve the problem, it only kicks it down the road.

As for tying each account to an IP address, I'm sure you know that no one gets a unique IP address. Tying accounts to phone numbers, kiss your user base good bye

Dear Nairalanders and Advertisers.

Nairaland's server was taken down by our host's abuse team because of an abuse report that wasn't attended to on time.

After rectifying the error, we brought the server back for a few minutes, but they decided to take the server down again. Since then, we haven't heard from the abuse team, yet the support team keeps insisting that only the abuse team can help us.

So we had to transfer Nairaland to a temporary host in order to bring it back to you. A VERY time-consuming process. We are not fully back, even though most features of the site are working. We still have a long way to go. Additional downtime is likely; don't let it alarm you.

There's a lot more to say, but I have to go back to work to ensure that our return is permanent. Please forgive us for the stress we caused. We appreciate the love and support that you showed us during the ordeal. Nairaland is too important for us to let this happen again.

Best Regards,
Seun Osewa.

If you like, don't see this as an opportunity to get rid of ethnic hate and bigotry on this platform. Mtchew.

Enable people to block whoever they want here. U don't have have to see useless posts from certain individuals who do nothing but spread hate which your mods overlook most times.

Because you've had the sexually arousing picture on ur profile for years doesn't make it a decent pic. If the pic is not sexual, explain what it represents. Keep sexualising urselves and be expecting men to take u seriously.

It's time you:

1. Do a complete makeover of this place and make it more modern. It's become stale, boring, and unwieldy... the ancient UI isn't helping.

2. Rein in your mods. They're either for free speech or they do proper moderation. It shouldn't be up to their whims and febrile sensitivities.

3. Get a serious super admin while you tend to whatever the heck's distracting you.

4. Respect your users.

Nairaland is indeed due for a significant upgrade. The fact that there's even no on-web chatting is already a big minus. This is something many users would want and it doesn't take significant work to realise it. But oops! You realise it's significant, because the site actually lacks the expertise to effect that in a meaningful way.

What percentage of the user base want this? I personally am happy that that chat feature doesn't exist.
