A fresh graduate can only get a Graduate Assistantship position (GA). You get promoted to Assistant Lecturer after your Master’s degree.

Graduate assistant is different from Assistant lecturer. Graduate assistant is the position that's available to fresh graduates, not assistant lecturer.

Most federal workers are entitled to allowances, federal university lecturers are not excluded from this. Please make your research about this. Again, I never said they are paid highly and we all know that most Nigeria workers are paid less compared to their fellows in other developed countries.

Our problem is glut in the job market leading to us undervaluing graduates.
Our thinking capability is intact , expression of that into research outputs may be fraught with challenges mainly from funding.
Are you aware that some journals ask for researchers to pay Article Publication Charges of more than $2000 for a single paper before it can be published?? Where will they get 3m to publish your research? That is one of the reasons why Nigerian University Lecturers don't get ranked worldwide and not because they are subpar!

Bros lecturers care like their life depend on it! 90% of lecturers depend 100% on they salaries and other benefits paid by the employer (university or government). That's why ASUU tired all the lobbying, politics, diplomacy, which all failed, before they finally went on the strike to get this EAA among other long benefits withhold by govt. But what do people say, ASUU is bad!

The last money released by Buhari for EAA payments was for back logs from 2011 to 2013 (January). Most of people employed from 2013 February till Dat never received anything as EAA.

They may even get scholarships or grants that you won't get as easily as they can. Plus some of them work for INEC and earn money. They sometimes do consultancy. They work as facilitators for FG, world bank etc training, none of which you will qualify for.

Please, which allowances? You have a payslip and no allowance is shown there. Show us one and don't come here confusing uninformed folks. Consolidated means everything is inbuilt. Inside that N124,000 there is house allowance, etc. Don't argue with me, I am in the system. However, those in medical areas have separate allowances e.g hazard allowance which was N5k forever until it was recently raised to 35k, yet many have not received it since 2021 it was approved.

Anybody telling you that ASUU is bad should first placed himself or herself in such condition. If ASUU can stand on their ground and don't allow what people say to get into them, their aims will be achieved, but in most cases, they allowed pressure from both the people and the government to get into them. It is the right of the workers to get allowances. It just because we don't know our right again as citizens that is why such things continue to happen.

Universities lecturers aren't supposed to be paid only by the FG na. They should have advanced seriously. Something is wrong with them. We were given a contract by a foreign firm that is into steel production to review some articles published in Elsevier, Springer, Taylor and Francis, etc. These articles publish ideas and finding on improving the quality of steel, believe me more than 30% of the articles they sent were published by Nigerians academics with Nigerian affiliation. Reseach findings are open or behind pay wall in many hosting sites and publishers'site, the fact that Nigerian government is not using the research doesn't mean there was no output from Nigerian academics. Nigerian universities' laboratories are badly equiped yet they are chunning out valuable research and indexed in recorganised indexing bodies. The Malaysia you are talking about prefer Nigerian students which are mostly academics on TETFund and PTDF scholarship to drive their research output. Presently, Malaysia is among the top 8 countries in the world whose research articles have been retracted according to 'retraction watch'. There are a couple of Nigerian academics that are not doing well but a couple have also written and are still writing their names with gold ink. I don't want to even talk about the number of patents many hold. Until you know how such metrics are measured you will definitely write just the way you did.
