Is it normal that no one has ever gifted me anything on special occasions? I'm talking about Valentine, birthday and Christmas. I am 29, and since I became anything close to an adult, I've never had anyone care for me enough to show me love on these special days. Not from family, not from friends.

When you give alms, people don't necessarily develop that urge to give back as you would expect. They consider it a help afforded them by your person and that is where it typically ends unless they have the urge to pay it forward, in which case it also doesn't necessarily mean they would give back to you.

I have found that when the gift is personalized and packaged as a present and not some charity, people appreciate it more and are moved to return the favor. When you personalize gifts in the form of presents, you are making the receiver a person and not just some charity case and that means a lot to folks.
