Hi everyone, pls I have a 2.7 undergraduate GPA and GRE score of 290. I'm looking for MSc Computer Science or any comp science related course with funding in the US. Pls anyone help me with vital info.

Whatever you do, donโ€™t send this GRE score to universities.

First Good morning all the scholars in the house, been a while I visited this forum.

I have a very important inquiry here for my sister who is currently trying to transition into the USA medical field, So, by any chance Do we have any Nigerian female Medical students or doctor in this forums who has done this successfully?
If so please what are your challenges?
How did you transits?
Any further education or licensing needed?
What could she possibly expect?

Your answers to my questions would be highly appreciated.

Here isnโ€™t the right place to ask this question. If your sister is really a medical doctor, then she should know the routes Drs use to leave this country. This thread is mostly for student Visas.

Hey ๐Ÿค

The average GRE score would depend on your preferred university and subject of choice.

However, a GRE score between 150 and 160 in the GRE Verbal and GRE Quantitative Sections would make you eligible to apply to most universities in the US and can be referred to as the average GRE scores of US universities.

1. Even Havard University lowest GRE score intake is 260 . Therefore YOUR GRE SCORE will enters 75% of Universities in the United States .

*** Any one can even GOOGLE this info.

Hey ๐Ÿค

@DaoduDavid . It seems no one has been able to answer your question ? I came across it last week and another person @zihno reposted it today .

I am not meant to be rude or insultive but whenever you are asking a question in a public forum , kindly direct it to the General Public , not to a PARTICULAR SET OF PEOPLE

... Here is the part of your question that made me (and perhaps many others ) refrain myself .

***** Do we have any Nigerian female Medical students or doctor in this forums who has done this successfully?

1. Have you gotten any responses from a female medical students or doctor In this forum ?

2. Even a Vulganizer or a Tailor who is apt in research and information may answer your question successfully more than a PhD holder in medicine .

3. Throw your question to the public , then you will receive general opinions and pick your best . Some Nairalanders like me are well-cultured who does not dabbled into tribalistic or segregated questions .

Someone with a Second Class lower is looking for funding and his GRE is lower than 300 and you even went as far as bringing Harvard University here makes me question if you just commenting.

@Poster please don't listen to this advice.

You should know you are competing with other applicants.

I will advise you to Google out schools that are unpopular in the US and send in your application because some courses are in most demand and Computer Science is one of them.

To save on application fees, try reaching out to graduate school with your intent for funding.

Shalom!

On the contrary, your WhatsApp group where y'all are acting as VO is what will make Nairaland not grow.

You can see people hardly post their transcripts here because they prefer to give them to wannabe acting VOs on WhatsApp groups.

Yes, they can Google your generic response.

Try to advise them to contact the school directly.

Using Harvard University makes no sense because how many people get into Ivy League universities with a low GPA?

Or do you think the schools are not concerned about their ranking and if an applicant is prepared for graduate school?!

@bolded you must be a gaslighter

1. I don't like going at loggerheads with you or anyone on Nairaland. We are all contributors . Nobody is paying us money or buying us data as compensation.

2. Obviously , we have travel agents among us and we have travel consultants as well as Recreational contributors (like me) who can grasp the opportunity if there is need for a personal jobs ...BUT DO WE HAVE TO QUARREL ?

@MrSoflife .

1. I do not have any whatsap group !! I challenge you to point to where i have directed people into whatsap group and post it in the Public ..IF YOU DO ...THE MODE SHOULD BAN ME .

2. I am one of the people talking against Mock Training on whatsap ..because it makes applicants lazy ... I am not talking of other whatsap ooo... But for Mock whatsap i think it does not always work ..BUT IT WORK FOR PEOPLE WHO LIVES IN OTHER COUNTRIES OR FAR AWAY .

3. Hello , Click on my profile , check all my post and throw it on Nairaland . I do not belong to any whatsap group , I do not belong to any social media group , i am not a travel agent , i am not working for anybody . I am acting alone as a RECREATIONAL POSTER .

3. Using Havard University makes sense . Look at it this way . The guy scored 290 in GRE ... Havard University lowest GRE intake is 260... So tell me that UC Berkeley or U Michigan will not accept his 290 GRE ? He beats Havard lowest GRE SCORE !!! ...Havard is more rated than UC Berkeley and University of Michigan ... THIS IS COMMON SENSE .

4. I am not saying he should apply to any of the aforementioned Universities . What i am trying to point to is that his GRE score will be accepted by 75 or 85% of US Universities. Although he has low CGPA but we are talking about GRE here ..common . We have more than 2,000 Universities in AMERICA .

Thank you very much this a detailed response. Appreciate it.

You're welcome Lawrence.
Some one else also suggested going to Nigeria to renew via drop box so that's also a possibility. Here's the link from the embassy in Nigeria -- https://ng.usembassy.gov/no-interview-student-visa-renewals-available-now-2/
You can also visit Canada to renew as well but it all require strategic planning. I hope it works out for you!

Itโ€™s funny that one is blindly giving advice and not yielding to correction.

For the record, I came to the USA three years ago on student visa so you either take my advice or leave it!

For the question regarding who is sponsoring your trip on DS-160, the right answer is โ€œTHE SCHOOLโ€ if you are on full funding. โ€œSELF or RELATIVEโ€ (your choice) if no funding.

VO is not interested in who is paying for your flight to US. The question is about who is responsible for the whole travel experience which is your schooling (tuition, feeding, accommodation etc).

Ire o

I'll have to agree with @yinkhar's point regarding filling out the DS-160 when you've full funding.

To everyone else: It's also fine to have difference of opinion on here. We all can't think alike but let's do it without being on each other's throats. Two truths can coexist. Let people pick what they want to do. Peace.

Good day All.

I am in France on a student visa currently. I have secured admission to a school in the USA and I have a sponsor as well. My school in the US resumes late 2024 but I would like to apply for my visa in January or February 2024.

The process to apply outside nigeria is quite different and complex which brings me to my question; who has a working and comprehensive guide on how a Nigerian student in France can apply for USA study visa.

I have used YouTube and google but Iโ€™m here for more insight so any kind of experience and information related to my case is welcome.

Gracias

Hey ๐Ÿค

*** You have to be very tactical and plan very well with your New Found Love (USA) because as a Nigerian studying in France and wanting to move to the United States while still on a study visa in France might look like a trick to many Consular officers . They are wiser in that Aspect .

1. The process to obtain an F1 visa is almost a mathematical process Worldwide (same thing). Therefore , nothing is too complex in obtaining your visa. But if you are in your 2nd year in France and have being maintaining lawful resident then you are good to go.

2. F1 visas for new students can be issued up to 365 days in advance of the start date for a course of study. ย But , you will not be allowed to enter the United States more than 30 days prior to the start date of your program .

3. Go and pay your SEVIS fee . Pay MRV (visa fee) . Fill your DS 160 and upload photo ...US embassy in Paris just introduced a new DS 160 but it's not anything different and Book your appointment.

4. Type USA embassy in France (Google) and go through the non immigrant section . You can do it yourself except if you are EXTREMELY BUSY .

5. Be ready to answer your future US Consular officer the following questions ;

** Why are you leaving your study in France to the US ?

** Do you have any relative in the USA ?

*** Why did you not transfer your credit to the US Institution ?

**** When is your school resuming ?

You can only apply for F1 visa 120 days before the commencement of classes in United States. Hence, your school will be resuming late 2024, I'm not sure you can apply for F1 Visa in the month of January/ February.

Correct me if I'm wrong please......

You are right at the same time you are wrong . You quoted International Student. Com in your response which is an old policy , International Student .com is also a private website . Or your answer is based on 120 days old policy .
