Why the extra 20,000 in the 64 pages & ten years validity?
So many things are wrong in this country.

Why should someone who has his/her biometric already in the db visit their office again for capturing? Capturing should be for new applicants or those who wants to make major updates to their information. This so called automated system already existed. They should tell us the new features they added apart from the fee hike.

What I noticed was that any officer that attended to you at their office , his name will be written on your file. He will be the one gonna be call on at every stage to move to next office and tips given along each stage...So if someone applied online, no one to call on to every stage and gonna be missing las las because file plenty to attend to.

This is my experience 2years ago , I paid 45k within 3months I'm done.

There's nothing new from what I read here, Passport application and payment has been going on online since, the problem is going for biometric capturing.
Immigration officers at passport offices from their countenance when they know you apply on your own online is terrible, they make it look you've done something abominable. Officers asking you terrible questions because you don't give anyone of them 55k to apply for you. Imagining demanding for bribe of 20,000 naira because you dare renew your passport 7 months to expiration. They even ask you for payment receipt when it's stated in the portal documents all you need to come with when coming for capturing.
I helped my younger sister apply online, on getting to the immigration office for capturing, she was asked who's facilitating it for her, she replied her brother apply for her online, she was asked to go get her payment receipt, but payment receipt isn't one of the documents to tender during capturing, besides you can't get a date and an application form for capturing without payment. But I sensed they just want my sister to see how much is collected from her in case she might have given a oanutrageous amount to the person who helped her apply online.
I believe this next phase of online application is to eliminate the hassle of going to passport office to go waste one's time and harassment from rogue officers by allowing applicants to upload the needed documents. Because our NINs are required during application, our biometrics can be generated during the NIN verification

What about 64pages with a 5year validity? Since most people use it as a means of identification these days.

. . . as an "identity" what do you need 64Pages for ?

As a nigerian living here, you can't be carrying international passport up and down as a means of identification when we have NIN, voters card, and drivers licence

Passport application online in Nigeria is not something new, shebi after the online processes u will still be required to go for biometrics in their office? That's where the problems always arises, in most cases the corrupt officials tell u to go n collect your passport online.

I am wondering what is new here?

There has always been passport processing online and it has been so for many many years both for domestic and internationally users.

You login, input your information, the system will give you an appointment date to appear for processing, for international applicants you are redirected to an online third party to pay the fees, print the receipt and bring it with you on your appointment date.

Domestic applicants had to pay physical or a payment module may have been implemented by now.

So this new ‘online system’ that must have cost Nigerians flesh and blood what difference does it provide visa-vi the old one?

All I see is another white elephant project used to siphon money from the pockets of Nigerians leaving poorer and as usual and typical the poor masses are cheering their oppressors on for doing a fantastic job!
