My New Borehole Pumps Out Dirty Water First, Before Clean Water. Help! by Grupo(m): 9:06pm On Jan 19
Hello all,

Please I drilled a new borehole for my village house.

According to the geologist who did the survey, we'd get water at 65 meters. So I paid him to bring drillers to drill 65m well.

After the whole drilling and installation, and flushing of the well, I noticed that each time I pump the water, the well brings out dirty brown water for like 20 minutes before it starts bringing out clean water.

And the next time I pump the water, it repeats the same way. I have contacted the drilling company and they are not saying anything useful.

Please I will appreciate contributions from experienced people on how to navigate this challenge.

Please @mods, or the mod in charge of this section, kindly help me push this to the front page. I really need opinions.

Thanks.

I suspect the well wasn't cased properly; hasty flushing could also be the culprit. Where is your village by the way? Just drop the state only. Prepare to 'flush' with chemicals; improvement may be seen. If not: reline the well.

I have pumped the water for more than three hours nonstop before. Yet this continues.

When you start pumping at first, the water is dirty but clears after like 10 to 20 minutes. And the water remains clean like that for the rest of the day.

But once I try to pump again the following day, it starts with very dirty water again. And continues for like another 10 to 20 minutes before it clears and becomes clean.

You can call the geologist, ask him how much will it cost for him to flush it for you... flushing can do you a lot of good

Please what does flushing involve?

Because the geologist was the one who did the survey. Brought his own drilling company to drill the well, and install the pump.

I was not around on the say he installed the pump but he claimed he flushed it on the same day.

You still have .

You still have to flush it for a longer time but this time will involve some extra money.

You will need to involve the service of drillers to use water tanker to do the job

Thanks. But you have an idea of how much it'd cost to do this?

It's normal, open the pump, allow the water flush for like 30 min or more , once its clear then you can close so it flows to the tank. You'll have to do this for a little while before normalcy returns.

65 meters is not very deep to reach clean water for machine drilled borehole and it may take a few weeks or months for the water channels to clear before you can reach clean water.

Also check the water pump capacity. If it is above 0.5 HP for that depth, it could contribute to it.

Your borehole should be nothing less than 100/120m or even more since it's in ebony, also is there any river or stream nearby this determines the availability of water in that area. Drill deeper

Try to use alum and chlorine to treat your water before use.

Water Experts Can Help You Treat The Borehole - I guess.

I had a similar experience. Its mostly because of loose clay at the bottom of the well. The clay gets sucked by the pump when you start the pumping. Nothing much you can do unless you remove all the loose clay

Flush or not flush it will still bring out dirty water the driller didn't do their job well. If not money will ask you to inform another driller to drill another borehole in another part of the compound for you to get clean water for use.

I'm not very familiar with the terrains in Ebonyi, but it looks like a leaching problem.

You know when mineral matters are washed into the underground aquifers by percolation.

Since it only comes out when you first start the pump, it doesn't look like a serious problem.

First get drillers to flush the borehole, if the problem persist, then afix a union connector to the pipe run. Loosen it when you first start the pumping machine so you can bleed out the bad water and tighten it back when it's clean again.

The water should be fine within six months if you pump every other day.
Wells become cleaner, the more you pump them.
