His father was not Greek. His father was Yoruba, mum igbo and the kids were born and raised in Greece. That was his first time in Nigeria and he went with his mum so of course his mum was telling him where to go and what to do. His dad died in 2017.

The Yoruba who did that are deceiving themselves and will never learn. As far as I'm concerned he's igbo and that's where his heart will always be with his mom. What the guy did is right and natural, there's a stronger bond between a child and mom especially in intermarriages and that's why honest countries lean maternal, from Ghana to S.Africa to western countries. Even the Greeks who were interviewed in the media don't know the literal meaning of Antetokoumpo because it's NOT a Hellenic or Greek name. Giannis had to tell them that it means "From across the sea" which literally has the same meaning for the name Adetokunbo which means "A crown brought from across the ocean (or sea)" in the Yoruba language.

That corrupted name "Antetokoumpo" was a so-called misspelling in the documentation of the family Yoruba name Adetokunbo when Giannis' passport was being prepared for him after he turned 18 years because he and his four brothers were NOT officially Greek citizens even though they were born in Greece to non-Greek parents.
