I was born and bred in Iwaya. Iwaya is a twin community with Makoko. Infact, we used to have Iwaya-Makoko Community Bank, Iwaya-Makoko Police Station, Iwaya-Makoko Women Development Centre. Makoko is on water, while Iwaya is by the water. Iwaya is the Community that stretches from University of Lagos 2nd Gate where MFM Headquarters is located up to where Iwaya and Makoko shared borders.

Today, out of my 6 siblings, only two of us have less than a Master's degree, and only two of us are currently in Nigeria. Where your own family members are still praying and fasting to get to, we have been there and returned. Not everyone is wretched like you.

Go to Makoko now, about 50% of the people there are those that dropped out of Primary School in the South East, and jumped into Mallam Audu's trailer carrying Cows from Bornu through Igboland to Lagos to come and sell Gala and La Casera inside Lagos hold-ups. The other 50% are Eguns, Ilajes and Ijaws whose natural habitat is on water, but they are now being displaced by the Developers

You try but safety was murdered over there, try to imagine in case of any mishap how do you survive. indeed we are leaving in a society where a lot of humans are even looking for what we termed not usable. may God help us all.

I'm laughing at the people saying government should take makoko and do so and so. Gentrification is a poor man's nightmare. If government turns makoko to Atlantic City, what do you think will happen to the poor that calls that place home?

By the way, I'm going to Cotonou for the first time. What would you shop for if you were in Cotonou? Where is their biggest market? Their version of Tejuosho or Eko market?

Makoko versus Nylon streets in Ajegunle which is better to manage and live in. Don't forget lagos have many streets in ajegunle called nylon street and this is one of them.
Please naira landers you have option to choose just one and which will it be?

This brought back teary memories, leaving the murky waters that baptized my soul for half a decade made me never want to go back.

I miss the folks at Makoko but life goes on.

Meanwhile, big shout out to Tunde Onakoya, man literally took us off the waters, make us see the beauty from the other side. Nigga is forever a legend.

So they shit inside that water? Can only imagine the smell, and someone is calling on the government to designated the place as a tourist center, with all that shit floating by as you travel by canoe. Tourist center indeed, that place needs bulldozers and demolition crew.

The floating residences are danger to the people living in there especially the children hence should be demolished and the government should find a way to relocate them upland by putting them in low-cost housing units with monthly rents/charges.

GOD BLESS LAGOS STATE

You think you have seen all until you visit the creek in the Niger Delta and then wonder how people find themselves living in those places. How many of such settlements can you destroyed?

Since we don't have many MAKOKO-like floating houses in LAGOS, then destroying the floating slum will be a start and a message to other dwellers elsewhere that the next opportunities they get, they've got to move upland so as not to get caught in relocation troubles wherever cleanliness exercise reaches their environment. That dwelling keeps expanding and the earlier the state rises to the call to duty, the better. The situation would only get worse if nothing is done AND THE URBAN REGENERATION PLANS FOR THE ECOSYSTEM WOULD BE DIFFICULT TO SUSTAIN.

The first few minutes was awesome with the introduction and that background music but thereafter, everything look like nothing special and non interesting
For me, it's interesting all through because the environment is not like what I've seen anywhere else. But, why is it that our waters look this dirty in Africa especially in Nigeria?

This place can easily be made a big tourist attraction.
