Gradually, saniting is returning to every region. Why keep a corpse for months, years all to to prepare for a show called befitting burial? Let the deads breathe jaree.. |

BlackyOne:But is is absolutely fine for canopy renters, chair and table renters, food and wine for funerals , MCs and music providers at funerals to display their wares. Right? It isn't the fault of coffin makers that people die, besides, it wouldn't stop people from dying banning coffin makers. Yes. I agree with area/market, very good idea ,but Soludo just want a more than 100 years old artisan business like coffin making to end. Is he afraid to die or what? |

Calitoscassius: I support the ban on public displays of caskets. Casket sale is a business like other businesses out there. People who indulge in them should rent shops or warehouses where they can arrange their caskets and people can walk in for purchase. It is very discomforting to drive along roads and be seeing different shapes and colours of coffins by the roadsides. Get a shop, arrange your coffins within and put a signpost outside. As for the burial registration of 1,500 naira, I don't see how that's a problem. If you can spend millions burying a loved one, what's a thousand five to document the burial of your loved one with the relevant government agency? 2 Likes |

It's better we pretend that we will not die abi❓ Instead of facing your governance duties, you are thinking of how to slow down the business of coffin⚰️⚰️⚰️ makers.... Before white man come sef, na tie we dey take tie our dead body for inside cloth ( shroud) and then put inside grave. In fact, true Christians should emulate Jesus✝️who was "buried' or interred in a shroud, not coffin, food for thought🤔🤔🤔🤔 |

Nigga44: If I slap your face, your clan head will feel it in his palace! Do I have to sleep in Enugu daily to know what's going on? Am I sleeping in Abia to know Otti is delivering governance? Am I currently in Ebonyi to know Nwifuru is doing well? That's how you people defend mediocre leaders then later lament when they're done ruining things. Oya, remove yourself from my personal space! I hate slow people. |

BoldBrainz: It wouldn't be fair banning the display of coffins just because it feels discomforting death is what every human will experience eventually, as i ve asserted earlier every other businesses are allowed to display their wares, every time i drive along Anambra major streets people are blocking the side roads with their wares, from bread sellers, fruit sellers, pure water, even roasting chicken almost in the middle of the road these are very hazzardous to road users and the environment. Yes. Wealthy people obviously can afford it, but what about the poor who may be struggling financially with the burial of their dead family members, and they are billed 1500 for registrations? We cannot just ban the display of everything we feel are discomforting |
Re: Anambra Bans Public Display Of Caskets, Depositing Of Corpses Beyond Two Months by BrutusOj(m): 11:13am On Feb 02 |
nazicartel:What's difficult in burial? At the end of the day, won't you put the corpse down six foots below the ground? When someone dies, reach out to family members, friends and colleagues, the bereaved gather to discuss the date of the burial and the financial commitments involved. One month is enough to prepare for the burial except you are planning to turn the burial to a show as we watch in nollywood movies. |
Re: Anambra Bans Public Display Of Caskets, Depositing Of Corpses Beyond Two Months by BoldBrainz(m): 11:19am On Feb 02 |
Calitoscassius: Apart from the discomfort it brings, it is aesthetically inappropriate for people to display goods by roadsides, whether fruits, vegetables, on-the-spot consumables or even coffins. Any decent metropolis shouldn't have to be burdened with ugly sights as such. Have you ever heard of the "death certificate"? |

immortalcrown:I rushed the thread thinking that the government is serious not knowing that it is a nonsense law, if the penalty for keeping corpse for more than two months is 100k , a lot of people will willingly break the law and pay the paltry 100k. Soludo need to be more stringent in this law. The only thing Anambra people celebrate is funeral, you hardly hear about any wedding when you live among them, only funeral with coffins being displayed everywhere like Regina celi road in Awka and the other side close to markurdi park in Onitsha, these practices are very disgusting to me particularly. In my community depositing corpeses in morgues are gradually phasing out as people burry their dead same day . Communities should have a local coffin maker who takes measurements and fabricates a coffin once dead occurs instead of this open displaying of coffins iof ifferent grades and sizes. Everybody who died in a particular community should be buried with same coffin afterall death is an equalizer. |

IkeOnyia:The US is a legal abberation in the comity of developed countries that is why it has the highest incarceration rate in the world. Having absurd laws to guide your personal conduct should only be found in totalitarian or theocratic state. I think Soludo needs to make law to also ban the use of cars more expensive than 5m while also banning the building of personal houses with more than 3 rooms so as to reduce the burden on the poor. MadamExcellency: I do not think the law affects Anambra citizens who died outside the state. But once the corpse is brought back for burial you will have to observe the burial laws of the state. |

BoldBrainz:I agree. It is apauling, i always find it very difficult trying to navigate my way driving along Nkpor/Obosi or Enugu/Onitsha old road as a result of good and wares displayed along the roadsides, some one suggested a special coffin markets/areas similar to spare parts market, electronic or tyre market i think that d be a very good idea Yes, i have, we register deaths here in England and it is free, the registeration of death are ussually for future and historical references and to mornitor populations. Talk about discomfort, here in England funeral companies advertise their businesses atleast every 20 minutes on Televisions. 1 Like |

Re: Anambra Bans Public Display Of Caskets, Depositing Of Corpses Beyond Two Months by BoldBrainz(m): 12:28pm On Feb 02 |
Calitoscassius: It's even preferable for funeral homes to hawk their wares and services through television Ads. Not only is it an income spinner for the media houses concerned, it is a classy approach as opposed to sampling coffins by the roadside like corn and pear. Well, death certificates are not free in Nigeria and they equally serve the same purpose. And with what Soludo has done by requesting that burials be documented, a family will find it easier getting a death certificate in the eventual run because you must have already documented the burial process earlier. All that's to be done in that case is a reconciliation of records, instead of you struggling to remember and present dates and details of when such death and burial occurred. |

Something the Prophet, peace be upon him, has advised 1445 years ago. Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Hurry up with the funeral (the dead body), for if it is righteous, you will be taking it forward to what is good; and if it is otherwise, you will be laying evil off your necks." Alhamdulilah. |

Nato008: Whether it's my money or not, the craze and frenzy that accompanies burials down South is totally stupendous and uncalled for. I assure you, this move won't end with Soludo. In the not too distant future, other governors and HOAs will follow suit. It's time we do away with archaic and unnecessary practices. |

Re: Anambra Bans Public Display Of Caskets, Depositing Of Corpses Beyond Two Months by Calitoscassius(m): 12:42pm On Feb 02 |
BoldBrainz:Yes, you are right, however, coffin making is a more than 100 years old artisan business, i am sure before this generation coffins were displayed openly in shops, if you have watched movies like cow boys and Indians, or D jango you d see cowboys displaying and making coffins openly in the streets. It is just that some part of the developed world has moved on from such business practises. Year ago meat/chicken were displayed openly in shops in England but today meat are sold in packs in supermarkets. But Naigeria or Anambra have not quite go to the level of such developement. Someone on here suggested a coffin market/area similar to spare parts, tyre or electronic market and i agree to that. |
Re: Anambra Bans Public Display Of Caskets, Depositing Of Corpses Beyond Two Months by BoldBrainz(m): 12:45pm On Feb 02 |
Calitoscassius: A coffin market is a fine idea. Everyone who fabricates and sells them can have their work sheds and sales shops there. Then you who needs to bury a loved one will know there's a fixed market for it and take yourself there. We need to start deviating from the old ways of doing things. |
