First of all this is illegal

Niger state didn't not ban collection sof allocation which comes from crude lifted in akwa ibom bayelsa etc

The farm produce will be left to rot or local farmers will be left to sell under market pricing considering the massive depreciation of the naira it's going to lead to even more poverty

All these people grabbed power and are busy pocketing allocation while making illegal and unconstitutional pronouncements

That is the zoo called Nigeria for you

Baboons and monkey as Governor

Evil people as CBN printing naira uncontrollably to drive people into more poverty

All of a sudden, they printed 80 trillion Naira from thin air and shared to National assembly presidency APC contractors Thiefnuinibu support group

Thieves

You can say that again. I wonder the kind of leaders we have in this country. Was it not this same governor that ordered that henceforth civil servants in the state should only appear in a particular type of dressing, before he reversed the decision?
It's shameful that in 21st century leaders reason this way. No innovative ideas at all!

Not his fault. If other states too take farming serious like his state, he will not contemplate let alone saying such thing.

Nope, it is a dumb move.
Niger does not farm for for its residents alone.
If he succeeds in artificially forcing down price of goods within Niger,
some farmers will incur losses.
The next farming season would even be worse as many farmers lose their incentive to farm.

While it is undeniable that the governor has good intentions for his subjects; He should have turn this into a major opportunity to boost his State's economy and generate more IGR, rather than commiting ECONOMIC SUICIDE which will crash the state further.

I mean why not invite the Dutch or Italians (or the Boers of South Africans) and partner with them to help you turn the State into the feeding hub of West Africa and a top sub-national exporter of food. Devise short, medium and long term strategies on how to do this.

This shows that the governor barely knows what he's doing economic-wise. If other states instituted the same measure, then the country will definitely collapse.

The problem is not about scarcity of food because there's MORE than excess in the state. The real issue is that there's little economic growth and the people have very low purchasing power. Outside Suleja (which is not a farming hub and heavily mixed tribe-wise), there's hardly any noticeable economic activity.

Since he was elected by Nigerlites, let them enjoy him.

Ok then, shut your palm oil supplies to them and see if they don’t look within and find ways to produce by themselves.

There is always merit and demerit to actions. The decision of the governor has Merits and its opposite. In the case whereby bulk buyers wanted to create man made scarcity, it help to curb that. But what if the Niger residents can not buy all farm products at worthy price? That can also make the peasant farmers extremely and extremely poor.

Well I'm a Christian and what you said may sound like mockery or that could be your intent but the truth is that our God is always able to provide and supply all of our needs but the problem is with us. Many of us are calling God yet without actually knowing him. Many christians don't pray and some who think they pray only make noise with no substance. All you hear is kill my enemy as if that iis all there is to God. God have shown me mercy in different ways and yes he answers prayers and supplies all my needs. Here is the scripture he gave me this year: But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall. This is an Intelligent Decision by Niger state Governor.

Controlling the open market to prevent bulk buyers from causing scarcity for small retail buyers involves implementing various measures and strategies:

Regulatory Policies: Implement regulations to prevent hoarding and price manipulation by bulk buyers. This may include setting limits on the quantity of goods an individual or entity can purchase within a specific timeframe.

Market Monitoring: Establish mechanisms for monitoring market activities to detect irregularities such as hoarding or price gouging. This could involve regulatory bodies, market surveillance teams, or technology-driven solutions like data analytics to track market trends and detect anomalies.

Price Controls: Consider implementing price controls or price ceilings on essential food items to prevent excessive price hikes that disproportionately affect small retail buyers. However, this approach should be carefully implemented to avoid unintended consequences such as black markets or reduced supply due to unprofitability.

Supply Chain Management: Improve supply chain management to ensure efficient distribution of goods from producers to retailers. This includes addressing logistical challenges, improving infrastructure, and promoting transparency and fairness in the supply chain.

Support for Small Retailers: Provide support and incentives for small retailers to enhance their purchasing power and competitiveness. This could include access to credit, training programs, and cooperative purchasing arrangements to leverage economies of scale.

Market Information: Facilitate access to timely and accurate market information for both bulk buyers and small retailers. This empowers market participants to make informed decisions and reduces the likelihood of sudden shortages or price spikes.

Promote Competition: Encourage competition in the market by reducing barriers to entry for new players and fostering a diverse supplier base. This can help mitigate the dominance of large bulk buyers and create a more level playing field for small retailers.

Public Awareness and Education: Raise public awareness about responsible consumption practices and the impact of hoarding on market stability. Educating consumers about their rights and responsibilities can help foster a culture of fair trade and discourage speculative behavior.

By implementing a combination of regulatory measures, market monitoring, supply chain improvements, support for small retailers, and promoting competition and consumer education, authorities can better control the open market and mitigate the adverse effects of bulk buyers on small retail buyers.

Let every state start holding what they're producing and stopping produce from going out to other parts of Nigeria.

Way to go! Genius!

I hope Niger is producing everything they need.

This ban will affect Niger state, the governor should check the population of Niger state then check the amount of food that is being sold out to other states.

Niger state is one of the highest producers of yam, maize, soya beans, wheat and guinea corn.. imagine halting its sales to states that converts it to final product, the state IGR will drop massively, commercial farmers might start looking for other options like relocation.

Nigerians and always trying hard to sound so intelligent.,..have u thought of the Negatives....ur just writing epistles.....hope u know the concept of DEFLATION IN ECONOMICS....... sustainable development can never be achieved domestically.....Niger state operate in deflationary tendencies thus banning market interaction within it's enclaves will worsen the deflationary terms ...leading to food surplus with shortage in purchasing power ......sellers will be the worst hit ......due to food surplus ......and fall in aggregate demand which will in turn make price to fall below price index in the state .....the sellers will curse tht government . Meanwhile for market monitoring et al......they are not feasibility and sustainable bcus checkmating the excesses of markets most time don't work since price remains in regulated due to invisible forces .....

If the farmers in the state produce "more that normally" as u are portraying, would scarcity of food be experiencing in the state?

If you are a father of four kids and u have 3 bags of rice now, will you sell them all because the prices of rice skyrocketed in the market? Is that rational way of making bountiful profit?

Won't you keep it to go round the family interimly until things come down to normal?

If they open gate and all the farm produces sold off in Niger State to other States, what would be the faith of citizens going forward? Remember this is early February o.
IF YOU HINGE UR ARGUMENT ON ILLEGALITY OF BLOCKING SALES WITHIN NIGERIA TERRITORY, THATS IS NORMAL, BUT YOUR ARGUMENT UP THERE IS PURE IRRATIONAL AND ILLOGICAL.

if the same policy announced in India or any of advanced nations now, you would praise them, that, they are the leaders who know how to take care of citizens, but in Naija, you are wailing as usual.

Good morning wailing wailer!

Are you sure of paradise in the hereafter?
Do you know it is guaranteed in Jesus Christ? Do you know that God wants you to have a good life right here, and also in the afterlife? Do you know that God through Jesus desires to be your loving Father, yes a Father very close to you, and living inside of you if only you let Him? I have been enjoying this relationship with Him for decades now, sharing life's problems with Him and He's been solving them and making life easier for me. You too can. Life isn't designed for you to go through it alone without God. You can't be smart or strong enough. In Christ, God is not that distant master you live the rest of your life struggling to please with religious activities that still leaves you feeling inadequate.
When Adam sinned, man fell and took on a sinful nature. God activated a plan to rescue man through Jesus Christ his Son. And because sin is a debt that must be punished, Jesus offered himself to be punished instead of you, to redeem you to eternal life with Him in paradise. Yes, He gave himself as a ransom for you. He now requires you to extend a lifestyle of pure unadulterated love for your neighbour as a way of living for Him here on earth.
Quit arguing within yourself now, break free from family religion and accept Jesus now by praying to Him right where you are this simple prayer;
"Lord Jesus. I open the door of my life to you. Please come in and be my Lord and personal Saviour. Please cleanse my from all my sins, and give me a new life with you forever, in Jesus name 🙏🏽"
Kindly locate a strictly bible-based church near you and start growing in the faith, studying the bible and praying.

This not a wise decision at all. Why are some of the younger leaders of my generation lacking in capacity and critical thinking? From Yayaha Bello, to Sani Bello to Bago all with huge promises, then they disappoint. Its sad.

Niger is the largest state in Nigeria at about.76,000 sq km, bigger the size all the South Eastern States including Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers ie the state of Biafra at about 77,000 sq km. Niger is the most endowed state in Nigeria in terms of Agriculture and Natural Resources including huge outlay of water bodies that can support all round the year farming. But Niger has the worst rural road networks. Most of the agricultural produce cannot be easily evacuated from severalcommunities in Niger. I remember working in rural community that grows water melon 🍉, where we were buying water melons bigger that a basketball for just N50 because of huge wastages forcing the farmers to sell them off. The journey to this community from Tegina which typically who take you 45 mins typically takes one over 4 hrs. Even Bida axis, Kontangora etc. all have heavy agrarian communities yet farm produce are wasting in their quantities.

However, another major contributor to the crisis is insecurity which has made farming challenging and risky. This is also worsen by poor accessibility to most of the communities as I earlier point out as a major issue face in Niger.

Bago should think out of the box and get to work.
