Going buy the amount your lil brother sold the items i think it will only make sense if you don't venture into litigation & hearings, cos at the end when you calculate police extortion & legal fee it will surpass the " controversial refund"

The amount your brother got from the sales is tew small to stay at large for long, he will soon run out of cash n come back, however i get you don't want bear any "refund" but those family deserve a refund since you confirm he is your blood .. in his absence you are liable,

how are we not sure you both planned it, just opening you to legal angles, if you have pay n deal with your bro later
His brother is an adult. The op is not liable. Everyone is carrying his own cross.

Trust me bro, he could rot in jail for all I care. Atleast we won't bother about him anymore.
it's all gonna be alright. It's a crime in any part of the world to buy stolen goods, I'm pretty certain the buyers will prefer to settle out of court and give you back your properties.
They can get their refund from your brother whenever he shows up.

According to the law that your brother is a thief the buyers were accessories to theft. If they are wise they should return the solar to u, keep the police out of the matter and try to find your brother for there refund. They knowingly both stolen goods. And Dem dey hella. Mumu people them

You are wicked and abused power.

Your brother stole something and sold. You left your brother who would soon become anini to go and fight helpless people.

Your brother carried it and uninstalled it and sold it.

Sue your brother first

Wicked man.
As you keep protecting your brother one day he will use gun and kidnap you.

Better refund their money. That is what you should have done in the first place.

Not call police because you have money and lawyer.

Then when your brother is caught you deal with him.

For the whole family to be against you it means you did wrong. Infact very wrong.

I am sure when he was uninstalling it no one challenged him because they felt you are brothers. So he carried it and sold it for ps3.

Now you went and challenged the buyer knowing fully well, that your brother sold it.

What if he sold it to aboki people you will go to their dump to retrieve it. Dey play

Useless brother.

Why not bring your brother to testify but because you know your thief of a brother is a disgrace you shielded him

Na u supposed dey beg.
They will return it.
Using police force. We dey misuse police ooo

Abeg go one side.

Let them produce the receipt else it's stolen. It's risky to buy electronics without a sale document.

which sense u dey claim? Even at that ridiculous low price of 250k, alarm signal no suppose flash ontop una eyes say na stolen property? If na outsider thief am come sell am for una, una go still ask me to look for the outsider for refund before una go return back my solar system? No worry, Judge go interprete una offence tomorrow.

op did the right thing but there's many buts.

why not first arrest your brother before trying to recover your property.

the danger of what the op is doing will hunt him as from today.

if the op take them to court he will win and his property will be given to him without paying a dime.

however ask yourself at what cost?

Nigerian is unsafe a disgruntled Black sheep is what it takes to find yourself in a jungle begging for your life.

150k go finish in less than 2 months what next.

make I show my egbo how things be for street.

na him go even dey negotiate ransom.

op is exposing himself to harms way.

if it was a civilized society op is on point but in Nigeria remember no security.

call the family explain to them that they can do anything they want to your brother if they see him but you want your stuff.

the reason your brother told them before they brought it should also be looked into even if it was cheap.

my brother and his wife have had an accident and I'm looking for any amount to safe them... tell me if you no go move to help.

my brother wife is in the hospital doing cs we need 400k we already have 250 please buy this for 150k please.

find a way to resolve it with the family... you didn't even report to the police that your house was bugged... you better do oo.

MrOposter:
Forgive the length of my write up .

During the festive season, I journeyed home, leaving a spare key somewhere in the compound and snapping a photo of its location. A couple of weeks later, while still in my hometown, my younger brother phoned, expressing a desire to spend some time at my place. I promptly sent him the photos I'd taken earlier.

Upon getting to my door he discovered the padlock looked tampered with, as if someone had struck it. Despite this, he managed to open it, only to find my solar system missing—three panels from the roof, the inverter, and the battery from inside. Additionally, my Home Theatre system was gone. He wasted no time informing me.

Returning the next day, I began investigating. A neighbor mentioned seeing three new solar panels on a nearby roof. Following up on the lead, I confronted the owner, who happened to be a friend of my youngest brother (not my immediate sibling). He welcomed me warmly, but when I questioned him about the solar system, he claimed my brother had sold it to him, citing an urgent need for money due to a village matter. I vehemently denied this, asserting my brother took it without consent.

The friend disclosed that my brother sold him the system for a PlayStation 3 console valued at 100k and 35k cash, with an outstanding balance of 105k, totaling 240k. However, I had purchased the entire solar system for 400k back in 2019, including installation fees. The current value of a similar setup is around 600k.

He pleaded for time to retrieve the system, promising to return it within two hours after arranging a ladder and an electrician. Reluctantly, I agreed but returned three hours later to find the panels still on his roof, with no intention of return. Confronting him again, he directed me to speak with his mother, who claimed to be the buyer.

Taking the phone, his mother insisted that she purchased it from my brother and demanded a refund before returning the solar system. I informed my parents, who joined me at the location. After prolonged back and forth with the buyer's family, we filed a complaint at the nearest police station.

The following morning, accompanied by two police officers, we revisited the house. However, we were met with resistance from the entire family, including the father, mother (now claiming to be the buyer), brother, sister, and sister's husband, a FRSC Officer. They refused to cooperate without my brother's presence.

Despite this, the police managed to retrieve the inverter and battery, with plans to retrieve the panels later. Presently, the mother is in custody, and legal proceedings are underway. The solar system, excluding the panels, remains in police custody.

My question is:

Don't I have the right to collect back my solar system despite that my brother was the one who stole it from my apartment and sold it to them while I was away? Will the law help me recover my solar system and prosecute the buyer? Why can't the buyer conduct due diligence before buying a massively discounted solar system?

My younger brother is at large and all calls placed to him is not reachable Pls advice accordingly. Thanks
you can't give what you don't have. That's one of the most basic of laws. The solar system was never sold since your brother was not the rightful owner. The family that bought it simply fell for fraud. Imagine if I sell Stamford Bridge to you and you actually pay me. Do you think Chelsea will vacate the stadium for you just because you claimed to have paid for it? Your brother will be arrested though.

you have no idea how happy I'll be if my brother gets caught and charged. I will be glad if he cool off his heels in prison. Maybe prison might bring back his lost senses. I don't care about him at this point.

Let me tell you how the police will handle it:

The mother of the buyer will pay an amount for bail.

The police will extort the buyer for buying stolen goods.

The brother (accused thief) of the owner will be arrested on sight by the police, the brother can be pressured to produce his brother before the solar system can be returned to him.

Police can extort the family of the owner when the seller is arrested and or charge the case to court.

The case is highly in favor of Nigeria Police - it is an opportunity to extort the buyer, seller and owner.

The owner and buyer could have reached an agreement to settle out of court. The owner can confirm from his brother how much he obtained from the buyer and his family can do a refund to the buyer while the buyer in exchange return the solar system to the owner.

The owner's brother is someone to keep at arm's length and he may be a common and wicked criminal.

You could easily had resolved this issue without getting the police involved, they didn’t come to your house to get the items, your brother sold it to them, why didn’t you return the ps and money your brother collected from them? You’re doing all this to the buyers cause you guys have hidden your brother in a safe place but your brother will definitely pay for the pains he’s causing this family. U want to collect the system while your brother hold unto the game and money he collected from them, is that how you guys have been doing it or you want to swear that this is the first time your brother is stealing? Remember karma sha, we shall reap what we sow.

since ur brother sold it to them, u should first hold ur brother responsible. Let us look at it this way, ur brother could have told them lies that u traveled out of the country and u were selling ur things or any other sweet lie that would have made them buy it and since he is related to u, it would have been hard for them not to believe the lie. Ur brother can't just steal from u and disappear and instead of finding the criminal u are more focused on retrieving ur panel at their own loss. When u find ur bro this case will be solved easily.
