There is more demand for it. As time goes on and african cuisine gets more established, the price will come down.

All I see is greed. They want to make huge profits from every sale. They excessively inflate prices, and the funny thing is that they source almost all the ingredients from the same country they are in, yet they charge ridiculous amounts. That’s the reason a lot of them run outta business so often. SMH

African store dealers are the most greedy people you will ever come across.
Yet , they aren't richer than their Asian counterparts.

Go to an Asian store, you will still see African raw foods , yet they will be cheaper.
Asian stores have your ogiri, yams , garri , egwusi, etc but they sell these foods twice cheaper than your African stores

That's the same thing that applies to African restaurants abroad.
African dealers make eating African food abroad a luxury whereas it's easier for Asians to preserve their cultural eating habits cos the foods are cheap for them

African restaurants don’t get patronage like the Chinese ones. Asides from Chinese people, who by the way have a larger population than Nigerians, a whole lot of other nationalities eat chinese unlike Naija meals.

These Nigerian restaurants price their meals to cover their fixed & overhead costs. They pay for rent, electricity, water, salary etc whether they make sales or not. Just like it’s costlier to eat Chinese or French in naija than it is to eat Jollof or amala.

No, there is less demand for Jollof rice, sometimes you may have to travel 20Km just to buy Jollof rice.

Jollof rice in London is considered exotic cuisine

The Asian shops have better finances to compete better.

When an African brand is sold cheaper, same Africans see it as inferior and buy foreign ones.

When it's more expensive than the foreign ones, they see it as greed, not inferior anymore.

I would prefer being tagged a greedy seller than an inferior/cheap product seller.

"Africans hate cheap products, but they want to buy everything cheaply." Food for thought.

They wanted to look down on Innoson vehicles because it's locally made, but the moment they realize they can't afford them and they're even more expensive than some Benz, they hide and call Innoson greedy. grin

An African man has been made to feel inferior all his life by his colonial masters, so now that he has money, the last thing he wants is to be associated with cheap or inferior products.

Every continent already looks down on Africans, so selling our items/food/products cheaply abroad will make these foreigners believe we're truly inferior that's why our food and products are cheap and affordable.

Please, Africans, don't sell your products cheaply abroad, you should only sell cheaply at motherland if you feel like. E get why.

Which of these below would you prefer to be called.

1. That kind man sells inferior products
2. That greedy man sells superior products

For my and my family, we prefer number 2.

With more sales borne out of selling things cheaply, finances will improve.

Relentless greed + Absence of price benchmarks leading to Inconsistencies in costing per plate serving.

In terms of the supply of African foodstuffs in France and the UK for instance, the Asians have for many years now the larger share of distribution than even the African store owners due to the similarities between African cuisine ingredients and Asian cuisine ingredients.
