Would you rather prefer anarchy for just one day then? Government might not be doing enough, but certainly there are still benefits you are getting.

So you don't realise that there is anarchy in Nigeria already?

Just dispose those old batteries, you have damaged them. Buy 4 new batteries and upgrade your solar panels

Finally and most importantly, carry out an energy audit and replace all old appliances in your home with more efficient ones. Never draw more than 200watts per tubular battery after sundown.
how do you measure how many watts you are drawing per time?

It's splendid!

I use a 3.5kva 12v kartel inverter and 4 220AH tubular batteries I connected in parallel to make 880AH.

I power virtually every thing in the house including an lg inverter AC for most of the afternoons , an lg inverter fridge/freezer and a bona solar chest freezer.

I've been fully off grid for going to 6 years by May and I don't have any regrets at all.

The installation was done DIY with little touch by my electrician.
Good day sir. How much would it cost to power a single room using 2 laptops, 2 mobile phones and a standing fan?

If it is DIY, then 2m can do it.
- Budget about 1.5m for LifeP04 battery + charging unit combo. This kind of product is a combination of the best battery lithium iron phosphate iv battery & the charge controller + inverter
- use about 500k to purchase panels.

Then do the connection yourself. No need to call any electrician.
Everything is like plug and play

Are solar generators any good? . Looking for what can power 1 TV, decoder, phones, 1 laptop and a fan and bulbs.
Re: Guys Using Solar Energy Instead Of Nepa Or Gen. by SeriouslySense(m): 2:09pm On Feb 18
Solar is the way to go, combined with nepa, that is uninterrupted power supply wink smiley smiley

I put on the fan yesterday, when there was no Nepa, and i could sleep well. cool

No need to look for fuel, just stay jeje, inside your house cool

Whosoever paired a 3.5kva inverter to just 2 tubular batteries needs to be flogged except he has given you strict instructions not to power some appliances after dark.

Even if you increase your batteries to 4, you shouldn't draw past 80amps in total and that's about 800 to 900 watts anything more than that you are stressing your batteries.

Only lifepo4 batteries can handle those abuses. Just get a small lithium pack instead and upgrade gradually.
are you saying a 3.5kva is supposed to be accompanied by more than 2 batteries?
Re: Guys Using Solar Energy Instead Of Nepa Or Gen. by wolement: 2:09pm On Feb 18
I have one tabular battery 200watt solar and 1kva inverter. For like six months now I have not run out of power. I use 100 watt, 60 watt laptop most times during the day. Then at night only laptop till I go to bed. Its worth it. Zero regrets.

It's actually very good and a temporary alternative to local electricity!
However, you must be careful with those who offer you these equipments without finding out your total electric load and the number of time it will last!

Some have sadly been deceived into purchasing a solar inverter plus battery that didn't even last up to 5mins before it switched off!

For instance,if you have let's say a fridge,a number of bulbs and some appliances you use and it works very well when you put on your generator, that will give you an idea of your total load and the load capacity you will go for!

The next thing you will look out for is the time period you will keep enjoying the electricity before it goes off or alerts you for charging like your phone!

Have this in mind before asking for a solar inverter plus battery!

Nice contribution.

It is the best experience,
I installed mine since last year September and to be honest that is one of the best decision I have taken coz NEPA is now a backup and I Light 24/7.

Ideally, you should have 8 batteries should you wish to maximize the potential of the inverter

On average how many years will the battery last before it will need replacement?

5 - 7 years averagely if well maintained, charged fully with each discharge and not discharging (DOD) below 40% in my case.

If your average is 900W or VA, isn't that small for such a huge array of panels? I get around 600 to 700 from around 11am for just 4x350W panels. Occasionally get up to 800 self. I've even been thinking this is low for my setup. I think the position of you panels may not be very efficient.

Agreed,

My panels are on my car port which is as flat as a table top.

It's now a huge project getting a slant on the car port but since I still get the batteries to float level everyday, I'm still comfortable.

I'm happy you noticed.

You can say that again. Discos, gencos and federal government regulating them are all scammers. I see them doubling customs duty on solar batteries and accessories soon, if they've not done so already.

Nigerians no suppose get problems, our leaders are the cause of our problems, those who are supposed to be solution providers The masses would react someday. Are you aware most of them have huge stakes in the power sector? That's why it's not working. One day, that corrupt privatisation process of the sector would be revisited by a reasonable leader. They should go and learn from mushroom countries like Benin Republic how they enjoy 24 hrs power supply despite being a poor country and are still affording it.

It's only in Nigeria a bag of rice is 70k. I bought a bag in 2017 and brought it into lag in cfa, I declared it at the border as something I was going to consume. It's allowed if you don't carry more than one bag. I went on an official assignment to their hospital over there and I carried my passport . The price of rice in 2017 is almost same today in Benin Republic in cfa. 10,000 naira is less than 5,500cfa now. Whereas, some years back, 1,000 naira would give you 10,000cfa and your pocket go full.

If I should speak my mind on this forum on what the masses who are looking so helpless should do to the so called leaders for destroying this country, i could receive 1mth ban.

this thing is really confusing.

A 3.5kva inverter can work with 8 batteries? Some installers will say a maximum of 4 batteries.

How many solar panels will you then need in such a set up… say for 4 batteries and for 8 batteries?
Re: Guys Using Solar Energy Instead Of Nepa Or Gen. by chatinent: 2:26pm On Feb 18
For my businesses where I need only light and fans, I use Sunking and it serves. I also used Qasa portable inverter in one.

In another, I use these: Each is a 100w inverter+battery and a 50watt panel. Only one uses a 20wattz panel.

Both cost less than N250k each.

At home, I still use a portable inverter from Sunking. It costs less than N300k too.

It serves well for lights and limited TV times. But when I am ready, I'll go for a customized type.

You can start little by buying the items one after the other.

I started with the panels first. Initially bought 6 then made it up to 10.

Next, I bought the charge controller.

I started off with a Safe power 24v 1.5kva inverter and have since upgraded twice more.

Batteries came in last after wiring.

Taking the project in one fell swoop may be a bank buster even for me.

Pardon me, but do you need to rewire the whole house again? (Asking for those of us staying in rented apartments with concealed wiring)

Also, is there a particular way to calculate how many panels and what inverter will be needed to power an apartment?
